Usually, no. Disney+ treats a subscription as belonging to the people and devices in the account holder’s Household, which is associated with the subscriber’s primary residence. Someone who lives at another address should use a separate subscription or, where the feature is offered and the account qualifies, be added as an Extra Member. Watching your own account while travelling is a different situation and may trigger a one-time verification.
The exact rules depend on your country, plan and billing arrangement. Disney+ UK’s Household guidance was dated May 21, 2026, while the Extra Member terms cited here come from Disney+ US guidance dated May 4, 2026. Treat the US limits as regional terms, not a worldwide promise.

What Disney+ means by “Household”
Disney+ UK describes a Household as the collection of devices associated with the subscriber’s primary personal residence and used by the people who live there. The service establishes the Household automatically from signals such as subscription activity, linked devices and the internet connection used to access the service.

It says precise geolocation data is not used for this purpose. That is a description of the signals Disney has disclosed, not a complete technical specification for every country, plan or billing partner.

What counts as outside the Household
A family member, friend or partner who maintains a different primary residence is outside the account’s Household even if they are related to the account holder or visit frequently. Giving that person the account password for ongoing use from their own home is therefore different from letting a household member watch on another supported device.
Why a device may be challenged
When Disney+ sees activity that does not fit the established Household pattern, it can ask the subscriber to verify the device. A prompt does not automatically mean the account is cancelled; it means Disney+ is checking whether the use is legitimate household access or temporary travel.
What someone in another home can do
Option 1: Add one Extra Member, where available
Disney+ US describes Extra Member as a paid way for an eligible account holder to add one person who lives outside the Household. The charge is monthly and is billed to the account holder. The Extra Member receives a separate login and profile, but remains attached to the paying subscriber’s account.
- The account can have one Extra Member under the cited US terms.
- The Extra Member must be at least 18 years old.
- They must live in the same country or region as the account holder.
- They cannot have an active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription.
- The feature is unavailable with certain bundles, including the listed Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited bundles and Disney+, Hulu, Max bundles.
- Availability can differ by plan and territory, so the account’s own subscription page and local Disney+ help center control.
An Extra Member has a unique profile and login, can stream or download on one device at a time, and receives the account holder’s video and audio quality. They cannot change the service tier or other account options; the US guidance says their account-level control is limited to removing themselves.

Option 2: Open a separate subscription
A person who lives elsewhere can subscribe independently. This gives them control of their own billing, plan and account settings and avoids relying on the original subscriber’s eligibility for Extra Member.
Disney+ UK also describes a profile-transfer route for an eligible profile moving to a new subscription. The transferred profile can retain watch history and settings, but the stated exceptions include the primary profile, profiles for people under 18 and profiles in Junior Mode. Whether the transfer tool appears depends on the account and market.

Current Extra Member and subscription prices were not established by the cited help pages. Check the amount displayed in your Disney+ account for your country and plan before choosing. A company explainer from 2024 listed US figures of $6.99 per month for Basic and $9.99 per month for Premium Extra Member, but those are historical figures and should not be treated as current prices.
How to check whether Extra Member is available
- Sign in to Disney+ as the account holder, not as a profile belonging to the person who lives elsewhere.
- Open the account or subscription-management area and look for an Extra Member offer. The label and location can change by country and plan.
- Read the displayed monthly charge, bundle exclusions and eligibility conditions before confirming. The account page is the authoritative price for your market.
- Confirm that the proposed Extra Member is 18 or older, lives in the same country or region, and does not have an active Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription.
- If no offer appears, use a separate subscription instead. Do not assume that changing a device, router or network will create eligibility; equipment does not change Disney+ Household rules.
How travel access differs from account sharing
Disney+ UK says subscribers can watch on supported devices while temporarily away from home. That permission is for the subscriber’s travel, not for giving a permanent second residence access to the subscription.

When a device is not recognised
The UK guidance describes a one-time passcode verification flow and an “I’M AWAY FROM HOME” option. Follow the prompt on the travelling device and complete the verification requested by Disney+. The exact screen wording and sequence can change.
Extended time away
For a longer period away, the subscriber can update the Household. Disney+ warns that there may be limits on how often the Household can be updated or the away option selected. Repeatedly moving the Household back and forth is therefore not a substitute for a second subscription.
What travel does not cover
- A friend using the account every day from their own residence.
- A student, partner or relative maintaining a separate home and treating the account as their permanent service.
- Using a VPN, a different Wi-Fi connection or a streaming box as a workaround for Household eligibility.
If the person is genuinely travelling with the subscriber’s account, use the verification route. If they live elsewhere on an ongoing basis, use Extra Member where eligible or create a separate subscription.

- Whether Extra Member is offered in your country or region.
- Whether your exact plan or bundle supports it.
- The current monthly charge and which account is billed.
- The age and same-country requirements.
- Whether the proposed member already has Disney+, Hulu or ESPN service that would make them ineligible under the US terms.
- Any limits on profile transfer, Household changes or travel verification.
These checks matter particularly for bundles purchased through a third party, because the cited terms do not establish that every billing partner exposes the same features.

“My adult child moved out but wants to keep the profile.”
If Extra Member is offered and the US conditions fit, the child may be eligible for that paid slot. Otherwise, create a separate subscription and use the UK profile-transfer feature only if the profile qualifies. A primary profile, an under-18 profile and a Junior Mode profile are excluded from the transfer described by Disney+ UK.
“I only use Disney+ at a holiday home.”
A second residence used regularly can look like activity outside the Household. For a short trip, use the away-from-home verification. For extended time away, use the Household-update process while remembering that Disney+ may limit how often it can be used.
“The other person is in the same country, so why can’t they join?”
Same-country residence is only one Extra Member condition in the US terms. The account’s plan or bundle, the person’s age and whether they already hold a Disney+, Hulu or ESPN subscription can also determine eligibility. Availability is not guaranteed merely because the addresses are in the same country.

“The Extra Member wants to upgrade the plan.”
The Extra Member cannot change the service tier or other account options under the cited US guidance. The account holder must make any permitted plan decision, or the Extra Member should open a separate subscription if they need independent control.
“A verification prompt keeps appearing.”
First decide whether the use is travel or ongoing access from another residence. For travel, complete the one-time passcode or away-from-home flow. For permanent use outside the Household, stop treating verification as a sharing method and switch to Extra Member or a separate subscription if available.
Privacy and account-security practices
- Use the individual login or profile supplied through the official Extra Member process rather than distributing the main account password.
- Keep billing and plan changes with the account holder unless the other person opens their own subscription.
- Review the Household and subscription details before accepting a charge, especially after changing countries, plans or bundles.
- Do not buy a streaming device or networking product expecting it to alter Disney+ eligibility; hardware does not change the Household association.
Bottom line
Disney+ does not generally permit an account to be shared as a permanent service between separate residences. A traveller can verify temporary access, while someone who lives elsewhere needs an eligible Extra Member slot or a separate subscription. Because the feature, price and bundle rules vary by market, the offer shown in the account and the local Disney+ help page should decide what you do.
