YouTube supports simultaneous live broadcasts, but one Indian internet connection can carry two 24/7 streams only if its sustained upload capacity can handle both streams together—with room for audio, network overhead, and speed variation. There is no single broadband-plan speed that guarantees success for every setup.
How much upload speed do two YouTube streams need?
Add the target video bitrates of both streams. YouTube’s recommendations are per stream and depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. The table shows the video bitrate totals for two identical H.264 streams; audio and transport overhead are additional.

For example, two 1080p30 H.264 streams at YouTube’s recommended video bitrate add up to 28 Mbps before audio and overhead. That is an encoder-bitrate calculation, not proof that a broadband plan advertised at 28 Mbps upload will work. The actual connection needs to sustain the combined traffic reliably, with prudent headroom for variation. YouTube also lists AV1/H.265 recommendations of 10 Mbps for 1080p30, 6 Mbps for 720p30 or 720p60, and 3 Mbps for 480p30.
Use upload speed, not download speed, for this estimate. Stability, packet loss, time-of-day variation, and whether the streams use one encoder or separate encoders can affect the result. YouTube recommends testing the upload bitrate and choosing settings that the connection can sustain (YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance).

Does YouTube allow two live broadcasts at once?
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes two or more active broadcasts, including a 24/7 feed alongside a separate interview broadcast. In that example, the interview is a subset of the ongoing feed and both broadcasts use one stream resource; it should not be taken as proof that every pair of independent programs can be launched with identical settings or a single stream key.
YouTube distinguishes a broadcast—the viewable event on YouTube—from a stream, the transmission settings carrying audio and video. A broadcast is bound to one stream, and one stream may be bound to up to three live broadcasts. For simultaneous broadcasts with different settings, YouTube’s API guidance describes creating a separate stream for each broadcast. For two independent full feeds, plan the broadcasts and encoder or stream configuration accordingly, then verify the intended setup in YouTube Studio or the API before launch (YouTube Live Streaming API documentation).

Check your Indian broadband plan and actual connection
TRAI says it does not prescribe a minimum broadband upload or download speed. Providers must declare typical speeds in tariff offerings; TRAI’s FAQ says at least 90% of measured test samples must be at or above the declared typical speed. That is not a promise that an individual connection will sustain that speed at every hour.
On an unlimited plan, check the fair usage policy (FUP): it specifies the consumption threshold and the reduced speed after that threshold is reached. Confirm both the FUP allowance and post-FUP speed, since a stream that starts at the required bitrate may not continue at that rate after the plan’s limit. - Look for the provider’s declared typical upload speed, not just its download tier.
- Check the plan’s FUP threshold and the speed supplied after it is exhausted.
- Test upload speed at the location and at the times the streams will run; a single test cannot establish overnight or evening stability.
- Run both streams together at representative settings and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages over a long enough trial to expose congestion, bitrate dips, or restarts.
Configure and test both streams before relying on them
- Choose each stream’s settings. Match the codec, resolution, and frame rate to the intended output, then use YouTube’s per-stream bitrate guidance to calculate the combined video load.
- Set the encoder for YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). Its listed RTMP/RTMPS video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; listed audio codecs include AAC and MP3.
- Measure the real upload path. YouTube recommends running a speed test for upload bitrate. Test with the same network connection, encoder arrangement, and approximate stream settings you intend to use.
- Run a representative trial. Include typical audio and movement, start both feeds, and watch YouTube stream health and messages. Test at the times the streams will operate, not only when the connection is otherwise idle.
- Plan for continuous operation. Keep the encoder or managed streaming service running, configure reconnect behavior, and monitor the feeds. YouTube’s guidance on simultaneous broadcasts and encoder settings does not guarantee that a home connection or individual broadcast will remain uninterrupted indefinitely.
