YouTube does not publish a minimum laptop specification for this workload. Test the exact laptop, connection, video, and audio you plan to use before relying on the stream unattended.
What determines whether it will work?
For a prerecorded yoga relaxation stream, there are three separate demands: the laptop must encode video continuously, the connection must upload it steadily, and the laptop must remain powered and cool. A successful short test does not prove it will run reliably around the clock; run a sustained test under the conditions you expect to use.

- Encoding: the laptop must handle the selected resolution, frame rate, and bitrate without persistent dropped frames or instability.
- Upload: measure upload speed at the stream location. Download speed does not tell you how much bandwidth the stream can use.
- Power and cooling: check whether the machine stays on and stable under sustained load. The fact that you are in India does not establish the reliability of your particular power supply or ISP.
YouTube says a laptop and webcam can be used for streaming, but its guidance does not set minimum hardware requirements for this specific continuous prerecorded-video setup. Its streaming tips warn: “Have a reliable network: A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.”

YouTube’s current live-stream guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, and YouTube lists 16 as the minimum age for live streaming. Check eligibility and enable streaming well before you plan to go live.

- Open YouTube Studio and verify the channel if it is not already verified.
- Check that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the last 90 days.
- Start the live-streaming activation process early; allow up to 24 hours for first-time access.
- Use YouTube’s encoder setup flow to create or select the stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
Choose settings the laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingestion bitrates include the following settings. They are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that an old laptop can encode them continuously.

The upload figures in the last column are a simple calculation applying YouTube’s recommendation to keep upload bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. Any additional stream or household upload use needs more capacity. The current recommendations can change, so check YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates before setup.

Start conservatively if you are unsure. A yoga video with slow movement may not need 60 fps; try 480p or 720p at 30 fps if the laptop or upload connection struggles. Lowering resolution, frame rate, or bitrate reduces demands, but do not choose settings solely from a speed-test peak: the upload must remain steady during the broadcast.
Run a meaningful test
- Use the intended video and audio loop, including movement similar to the final yoga footage. YouTube recommends testing with content and motion like the eventual stream.
- Measure upload capacity on the same connection and in the same location you will use. Keep at least 20% headroom above the stream’s total bitrate.
- Run the encoder at the intended settings for a sustained period, with the laptop placed and powered as it will be during the real stream.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and the encoder for dropped frames, interruptions, audio/video problems, and signs of overheating or instability.
- If problems appear, lower the settings and repeat the test. Do not treat an untested configuration as proven for unattended 24/7 use.
Plan separately for the YouTube archive
A continuously running broadcast and a complete saved recording are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on one 24-hour session to produce a complete YouTube archive. If retaining the footage matters, consider shorter sessions and a local recording backup. The reviewed guidance does not establish that ending and restarting sessions creates seamless playback.

Clear the yoga video and relaxation audio for livestreaming
Use only video and audio for which you have the necessary rights, including music rights for live use and any archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace the picture with a placeholder and warn you, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed music may require the rights-holder to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.
Check that the actual license permits worldwide YouTube livestreaming and the intended archive use. A subscription, credit, or purchase does not by itself establish those permissions. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and terms of service explain the platform obligations.

What the India-specific bandwidth figure does—and does not—mean
The National Informatics Centre’s webcast-service guidance specifies 2–4 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth per stream for its own webcast service. That is not a YouTube requirement and does not certify a home connection for YouTube. For your stream, use YouTube’s encoder bitrate guidance and measure upload capacity at your location.

Your ISP, actual upload speed, power reliability, laptop condition, and media rights cannot be inferred from your location. Keeping local equipment powered also does not guarantee uninterrupted ISP service; consider suitable backup power if your circumstances require it.
Options if the old laptop cannot keep running
If the laptop fails a sustained test, reduce settings and retest. If the broadcast is prerecorded and you cannot keep the laptop or home connection online, a cloud playout service is another route.
