Sometimes—but a VPS below ₹1,000 a month is not automatically enough for a 24/7 stream. The main constraint is usually monthly data transfer, not the server’s sticker price or advertised port speed. At YouTube’s recommended H.264 settings, a continuous 720p30 stream uses about 2.59 TB in 30 days and 1080p30 about 4.54 TB, before overhead. Several listed Indian VPS plans cost less than ₹1,000 but include less data than that. Check the provider’s quota, tax and overage terms before buying.
What a ₹1,000 VPS can—and cannot—guarantee
A VPS can run FFmpeg continuously and send a video feed to YouTube Live. Whether it fits a ₹1,000 monthly budget depends on the complete plan: recurring price after tax and renewal, included outbound transfer, CPU capacity for your chosen workflow, and permission for sustained streaming. A low monthly price and a fast port do not establish that the server includes enough monthly data.

The sample Indian listings below show why the distinction matters: some offer low-cost compute but only 100 GB to 2 TB of transfer, while YouTube’s recommended 720p30 H.264 stream alone works out to about 2.59 TB per 30 days. These listings are examples, not endorsements, and their prices and availability can change. Confirm current terms directly with each provider.

The estimates below use a steady video bitrate for 30 days and decimal units: bitrate × seconds ÷ 8. They are calculations from YouTube’s encoder guidance, not published measurements. They exclude protocol and network overhead; actual usage also depends on uptime, audio, and how the VPS provider counts traffic. YouTube’s bitrate guidance is for encoder quality, not a promise about any VPS’s network capacity. YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

| H.264 example | Video bitrate | Approximate transfer over 30 days | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30, recommended | 14 Mbps | 4.54 TB, before overhead | YouTube’s recommended setting |
| 720p30, recommended | 8 Mbps | 2.59 TB, before overhead | YouTube’s recommended setting |
| 1080p30, listed minimum | 5 Mbps | 1.62 TB, before overhead | Minimum guidance, not a guarantee of acceptable quality for every source |
| 720p30, listed minimum | 3 Mbps | 0.97 TB, before overhead | Minimum guidance, not a guarantee of acceptable quality for every source |
Audio, container and network overhead mean you should not plan to use every gigabyte of a provider’s stated quota. Leave headroom, ask whether the allowance counts outbound traffic, and check what happens when it is exceeded: extra charges, throttling, or suspension can change the real cost. A port speed such as 100 Mbps describes a potential transfer rate; it does not tell you how many terabytes the plan permits in a month.

| Provider and listed plan | Listed price and resources | Listed transfer | Implication for continuous streaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| IndiaWebHost Cloud 1 | ₹499/month plus GST; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe | 2 TB | Below the approximate 2.59 TB for recommended 720p30 H.264, before overhead |
| VyomCloud GPC.NANO02 | ₹360/month; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 20 GB storage | 0.50 TB | Well below the estimates even at the listed minimum 720p30 H.264 bitrate |
| VyomCloud GPC.MICRO02 | ₹1,040/month; 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB storage | 2 TB | Above the stated budget before any applicable costs, and below recommended 720p30 transfer needs |
| VPSWala VPS 2 | ₹298/month excluding GST; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe. The listing says its catalogue and prices were reviewed 21 August 2026. | 100 GB | Far below the continuous-stream estimates above |
| AIC Cloud Essential 2 GB | ₹199/month; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 20 GB SSD; an India (Mumbai) deployment option is listed | Not stated on the listing reviewed | Do not treat it as a viable 24/7 option until the provider confirms the transfer allowance and its terms |
VyomCloud’s page also advertises a 100 Mbps bandwidth figure and a 99.5% uptime SLA. That is the provider’s stated SLA, not an independently measured stream-uptime result, and neither figure establishes the monthly transfer you need. For any candidate, compare the tax-inclusive renewal cost, quota and overage policy, sustained-use rules, storage, support and the server’s route stability to YouTube’s ingest endpoint—not just the headline price.

FFmpeg can either pass through compatible, already encoded media or encode it again while streaming. These are materially different workloads. Passing through suitable files avoids real-time video encoding on the VPS; transcoding needs enough sustained CPU for the chosen codec, resolution and frame rate. The available listings do not establish that a particular one-vCPU VPS can handle every live transcode, so test your actual source and settings rather than treating a CPU/RAM specification as proof.
Rank #3
- Copy: use when the source’s video and audio codecs and stream format are compatible with YouTube and your output requirements. It reduces encoding work, but does not reduce the need to send the chosen bitrate continuously.
- Transcode: use when you need to change codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate or audio format. Measure CPU headroom under sustained load at the settings you intend to use; a stream that initially works may fail under resource contention.
Check that the VPS has enough disk for the media you plan to loop. For a playlist, make sure every file is present, readable and compatible with the chosen FFmpeg command. YouTube transcodes a live input into different viewer output formats, so the VPS sends one selected ingest stream rather than generating every viewer rendition itself.
Set up FFmpeg and YouTube Live
YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS ingestion and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension. Its guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. H.264 guidance lists 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p30 and 8 Mbps for 720p30; the listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 3 Mbps respectively. Choose settings your source and VPS can sustain, with network headroom for variation and overhead. YouTube Help’s current encoder guidance lists supported codecs including H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1, and frame rates up to 60 fps.

- Create or select the live broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the broadcast and retrieve its current ingest URL and stream key. Use the endpoint and key shown for your broadcast; do not copy credentials from a tutorial. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide documents the encoder-to-YouTube workflow.
- Install FFmpeg and prepare the media. Use your VPS operating system’s supported package method, then verify FFmpeg is installed and can read the source files. Check formats and playback before configuring a continuous loop. Confirm the VPS has storage for all media in the playlist.
- Choose output settings deliberately. Set resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR and keyframe interval to match your source and YouTube’s guidance. Use a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds. For 720p30 or 1080p30 H.264, use the platform’s recommendations as a quality reference—not as proof that a VPS has enough CPU or transfer.
- Protect the key and construct the FFmpeg command. Keep the stream key out of public scripts, screenshots and logs. Put credentials in a protected configuration or environment file with restrictive permissions. Build the command for your actual input, choosing stream copy only if the streams are compatible or explicit encoding options if they are not. Supply YouTube’s current RTMPS endpoint and key as the output destination.
- Test before relying on the stream. Start a test broadcast at the planned settings. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages, watch the FFmpeg process and CPU use, and confirm both the picture and audio arrive as expected. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.
- Run FFmpeg under a supervisor. Use a process manager such as systemd to start the job after reboot and restart it after process exit. Review service and FFmpeg logs, and verify in YouTube Live Control Room that the feed returns after a restart. A supervisor can relaunch a process; it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or fix a bad source, exhausted quota, VPS outage or YouTube-side issue.
- Monitor the whole chain. Track process state, disk space, CPU, provider transfer usage and YouTube stream health. Test recovery deliberately and decide how you will be alerted if the process stops or YouTube no longer receives the feed. Do not assume that a process marked “active” means viewers can see a healthy stream.
Copyright and YouTube Live checks
- Stream only video and audio for which you have the necessary rights, including permission for continuous public performance and livestreaming where applicable. A playlist is not permission to rebroadcast its contents.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Review the current rules and notices in YouTube Studio for your channel and broadcast. A technically healthy FFmpeg connection does not establish that the content is permitted or that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization rules.
- Test the full setup with your actual media before leaving it unattended, and monitor for stream health messages, rights claims or interruptions.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely checks | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | Current ingest URL and stream key, RTMPS destination syntax, outbound network access, FFmpeg output logs | Retrieve the endpoint and key from the correct Live Control Room broadcast; correct the output destination and restart the test. |
| Stream health warns or video is unstable | Actual outgoing bitrate, VPS route stability, CPU load if transcoding, provider throttling or packet loss | Compare measured output with the selected settings; reduce load or bitrate if needed, leaving transfer and network headroom, then retest. |
| FFmpeg exits or stops after a reboot | Service configuration, file paths, permissions, environment variables and logs | Correct the failing setting, verify the supervisor starts the service at boot and confirm YouTube receives the restarted feed. |
| Picture works but audio is missing or rejected | Source audio track, codec, sample rate, channel layout and FFmpeg mapping | Confirm the input has the intended audio stream and configure compatible stereo audio; YouTube lists AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for stereo guidance. |
| Stream stops when monthly transfer runs out | Provider quota definition, usage dashboard, overage or throttling policy | Estimate usage from actual bitrate and uptime, include overhead, and move to a plan or separate bandwidth arrangement whose confirmed allowance covers the load. |
| Server is online but broadcast is unavailable | Whether FFmpeg is running, YouTube stream health, source-file access, provider incident and broadcast status | Check each layer independently; a running VPS or active service does not prove the YouTube feed is live. |
