To rotate gaming content on one live stream, compose the broadcast in an encoder such as OBS: use media sources for prerecorded clips and scenes or source visibility controls to switch what viewers see. OBS documents playlist playback and operator-controlled switching, but the cited documentation does not establish a built-in timer for automatically rotating several separate playlists.
First, decide what “gaming playlists” means
- A YouTube playlist: a collection of YouTube videos that viewers play on YouTube. YouTube documents looping a playlist during playback, but that is not a control for changing the creator’s outgoing live broadcast. YouTube’s playlist-looping help covers viewer playback.
- A playlist of local video files: media that your encoder adds to the live broadcast. In OBS, the VLC Video source can play multiple media items and offers loop and shuffle options.
- Live gameplay: a capture source showing a game as you play. This is distinct from playing prerecorded gaming clips; an OBS scene can contain either kind of source, or both.
If you mean a YouTube watch-page playlist, it will not by itself rotate content in your live broadcast. If you mean gaming clips or recordings you control, an encoder is the documented route.

Set up playlist playback and switching in OBS
1. Confirm YouTube live access
Enable live streaming for your channel before planning the broadcast. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Its encoder setup guide describes encoder-based streams for gameplay and overlays. Before going live, check the Live Control Room preview and monitor the stream’s audio and video quality.
2. Add your gaming sources
For live gameplay, add the appropriate game, window, display, or capture source to an OBS scene. For a single prerecorded file, use OBS’s standard Media Source. To make a playlist of local files, add a VLC Video source and populate its playlist. The VLC source provides loop and shuffle options; OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source to appear. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

3. Organize content into scenes
Create scenes for the content you want to show—for example, one scene for live gameplay and another for a prerecorded gaming playlist. You can also keep several sources in a scene and control which are visible. OBS scenes combine sources into layouts; its Sources Guide explains the source model.
4. Switch while the same broadcast stays live
Use OBS hotkeys to switch to a specific scene or show and hide sources. This lets you change the outgoing picture without starting a separate YouTube broadcast. The OBS documentation supports these operator-controlled actions, not a confirmed native schedule that rotates multiple distinct playlist sources automatically. For the relevant controls, see the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

5. Test the playlist, audio, and transitions
- Start a short test stream or use a private test setup before the public broadcast.
- Check that each local file plays, and confirm the intended order and whether it should loop or shuffle.
- Listen for audio from the game and media sources; make sure the selected scene does not unintentionally mute or double the sound.
- Switch scenes and show or hide sources using the same controls you plan to use during the live session.
- Review the YouTube Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video quality before relying on the stream.
Can OBS automatically rotate several separate playlists?
The documented OBS features described here establish a VLC playlist with loop and shuffle options, plus hotkeys for switching scenes or showing and hiding sources. They do not establish a built-in timer for rotating several separate playlist sources on a schedule. If timed rotation is essential, verify that a current OBS automation plugin or other workflow supports your exact playlist and transition requirements before using it in a live broadcast.
Manual switching is the clearer fit when you want to choose the moment of each change or adjust around live gameplay. A single VLC playlist is the simpler fit when you want one list of local files to play and loop or shuffle. These are different tasks: switching among live games is not the same as scheduling several prerecorded playlists.
