What happens when you leave Fallen Village?
Leaving Fallen Village advances your route, but it does not close the region. Fallen Village stays connected to the wider world, and later chapters deliberately send you back through areas such as the Fields and Marketplace. Those returns are part of normal progression rather than a special post-game exception.

Lanterns are the return points
Lanterns serve two practical purposes. They are respawn checkpoints, and they are the nodes used by the fast-travel network once that system is unlocked. When you reach a lantern in or near Fallen Village, activate it so the checkpoint is registered. Later, that lantern can serve as a known destination instead of requiring you to retrace the entire route.
The village is revisited during the story
The Chapter 3 route includes a shortcut back to an earlier lantern and revisits the Fields and Marketplace. A later Chapter 6 route returns to the Fallen Village Marketplace lantern for quests and collectible cleanup. These routes demonstrate that the village is not a one-time area.
When does fast travel unlock?
Lantern checkpoints appear earlier, but the travel interface changes after the Chapter 2 boss. The Chapter 1 guidance notes that lantern names do not appear in the fast-travel menu until that boss has been defeated. This is why an early attempt to look for “Fallen Village” may show no named destination even if you have already activated a lantern there.

Before the unlock point, treat lanterns primarily as checkpoints. If you need to return, follow the physical route from the current region. Watch for opened gates, ladders, lifts, and other shortcuts; the game expects you to use these connections while the named travel list is unavailable.

After the Chapter 2 boss
After defeating the Chapter 2 boss, the lantern names become visible in the fast-travel menu. At that point, Fallen Village can be selected through its activated lantern rather than reached only by walking. The Chapter 3 walkthrough explicitly directs the player to use fast travel to return to the very first lantern.
Chapter 3 is the first clear fast-travel return
When Chapter 3 tells you to return to the first lantern, open the lantern travel interface and choose the earliest Fallen Village destination you have activated. If it is not listed, confirm that you defeated the Chapter 2 boss and interacted with the lantern itself. A lantern you passed without activating will not function as a dependable return point.
How to fast-travel back to Fallen Village
- Reach an active lantern. Use the nearest checkpoint in your current area and interact with it rather than simply running past.
- Open the travel option. Select the lantern’s travel or fast-travel command from the interaction screen.
- Check the destination list. After the Chapter 2 boss, the interface displays lantern names. Look for the Fallen Village entry or the specific village lantern you previously activated.
- Select the destination. Choose the appropriate lantern, confirm the transfer, and allow the area to load.
- Use the local route after arrival. A lantern places you at a checkpoint; it may not be beside the exact collectible, quest NPC, or locked door you want. From there, use the Fields, Marketplace, and shortcut connections to reach the target.
If the list is empty or the village is absent, do not assume the region is locked. The most common explanations are that the Chapter 2 boss has not been defeated, the destination lantern was never activated, or you are attempting to use a checkpoint before the menu exposes named destinations.

Can you walk back instead?
Yes. Physical backtracking remains possible through the connected paths in the region. The Chapter 3 route includes a shortcut to an earlier lantern, which reduces the distance once it has been opened. Walking is slower than fast travel, but it can be useful when you are searching for a side path, checking an interactable that was previously inaccessible, or learning how the regions connect.
What to look for while walking
- Shortcuts: Doors, gates, ladders, lifts, and other one-way connections often turn a long return into a short run after they are opened.
- Lanterns: Activate every lantern you encounter. A checkpoint is valuable even if you do not need it immediately.
- Previously blocked routes: Revisit branches after story events or new abilities. A path that was merely a dead end earlier may now lead to an item or quest.
- Area transitions: The Fields and Marketplace are useful landmarks when navigating back toward Fallen Village.
Walking back is also a reliable fallback if you are still before the fast-travel unlock. It does not require a named destination in the menu, only an open physical connection from your current location.
Which Fallen Village areas can you revisit?
The Fields
The Fields are included in the later route through the region. If you skipped an item or saw an unexplored branch, approach the Fields from the activated lantern and follow the previously opened connections. Check both the main route and side paths rather than assuming that returning to the nearest checkpoint completes the area.
The Marketplace
The Marketplace is another confirmed return location. The Chapter 6 route uses the Fallen Village Marketplace lantern for later quest and collectible work. This makes the Marketplace lantern especially useful as a staging point for cleanup: activate it, then sweep nearby paths and interact with any NPCs or objects that have changed.
The first lantern
The first lantern is the destination called out when fast travel becomes available in Chapter 3. If you are following the story route and want to retrace the opening section, use that checkpoint instead of navigating from a distant region. It is also a practical starting point for checking early collectibles you ignored while learning the game.
Rank #4
Are collectibles or side quests missable?
The chapter walkthroughs state that everything required for trophies and 100% completion is included, that nothing is missable, and that all areas can be revisited at any time. In practical terms, leaving Fallen Village does not permanently remove its completion content. You can postpone a pickup, return for a side activity, and continue the cleanup after finishing the main story.
That reassurance does not mean every item is visible from every checkpoint. You still need to reach the correct branch, meet any normal gameplay requirement, and activate lanterns so later travel is convenient. “Not missable” means the game preserves access; it does not automatically mark every collectible for you.
How many completion items are there?
The full guide reports 89 collectibles in total, according to PowerPyx (2026). The count covers Amber, Ferrofluid upgrades, and related completion items. Use that figure as a checklist target for the whole game, not as a claim that all 89 are located inside Fallen Village alone.
A safe cleanup method
- Record which Fallen Village lanterns you have activated, especially the first lantern and the Marketplace lantern.
- Return after the Chapter 2 boss so named destinations are available in the menu.
- Sweep the Fields and Marketplace systematically, checking side routes before moving to the next checkpoint.
- Revisit NPCs and quest locations during later chapters; the Chapter 6 route confirms that village content can remain relevant well after the initial visit.
- Use the 89-item total as a progress check alongside your trophy or completion list.
Can you return after beating the game?
Yes. The trophy roadmap confirms that free roam continues after the story and that you can return everywhere to clean up missing collectibles and side content. You do not need to finish all Fallen Village tasks before the final sequence simply to preserve access.
Best Value
Post-story free roam is useful for players who prefer to follow the critical path first. After the ending, travel to an activated Fallen Village lantern, inspect the Marketplace and Fields, and complete any remaining objectives. Because the game allows returns to all areas, your post-game route can cover unfinished village work without starting a new playthrough.
Fast travel versus walking back
| Method | When it works | Best use | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast travel through a lantern | After the Chapter 2 boss, with the destination lantern activated | Returning quickly to the first lantern, Fields, or Marketplace area | Requires an activated checkpoint and the named travel menu |
| Walking through connected paths | Throughout the game when the physical route is open | Early returns, shortcut discovery, and checking newly accessible branches | Takes longer and may require retracing multiple areas |
| Post-story free roam | After completing the story | Final collectible, trophy, and side-content cleanup | You still have to navigate each objective after arriving at a lantern |
Choose fast travel when you know the destination and want efficiency. Choose walking when you are investigating a route, searching for a missed branch, or playing before the Chapter 2 fast-travel unlock. Neither method permanently changes access to Fallen Village.
Why Fallen Village may seem unavailable
The lantern name is missing
This is expected before the Chapter 2 boss. Lantern checkpoints exist earlier, but their names are not shown in the travel menu until the unlock condition is met. Continue the main route to the boss, then check the menu again.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou cannot find the exact lantern
Only activated lanterns provide reliable travel destinations. If you ran past the checkpoint, return along the physical path and interact with it. Once activated, it should be available when the named travel list is active.
You arrived but the objective is not nearby
Fast travel moves you to a checkpoint, not directly to every quest or collectible. From the Fallen Village lantern, inspect the surrounding branches and use the opened shortcut connections. The Marketplace and Fields may require a short walk from the selected checkpoint.
A route looks blocked
Try another connected path rather than treating one locked door or barrier as a region lock. The chapter routes confirm that shortcuts and later returns exist. Check whether a gate, ladder, lift, or story-triggered interaction was opened elsewhere in the area.
Practical checklist before moving on
- Activate every lantern you pass.
- Note the first lantern and Marketplace lantern as primary Fallen Village return points.
- After the Chapter 2 boss, verify that lantern names appear in the travel menu.
- Open shortcuts whenever the route offers them.
- Mark unfinished Fields and Marketplace branches for a later sweep.
- Do not restart solely because you left an item behind; the walkthroughs report that completion content is not missable.
- After the ending, use free roam to finish remaining collectibles, trophies, and side content.
Bottom line for Fallen Village access
Fallen Village is a permanent part of the explorable world, not a one-time story segment. Fast travel becomes clearly usable after the Chapter 2 boss, when activated lantern names appear, while walking routes and shortcuts provide access beforehand. Later chapters return to the Fields and Marketplace, and post-story free roam allows a full cleanup. If you leave something behind, activate the relevant lantern and come back when convenient.
