Yes. Open the forwarded message in your mailbox and choose Reply. SimpleLogin uses a special reply-to address (often called a reverse alias) to deliver your response to the original sender while placing your SimpleLogin alias in the From field. Your personal mailbox address is designed to stay hidden. Sending or replying from an alias is documented as a paid-plan feature, so confirm your current plan’s eligibility before troubleshooting a failed reply.
What happens when you reply
A SimpleLogin alias normally forwards incoming mail to a mailbox that you have configured. The forwarded copy is not an ordinary direct message from the original sender: SimpleLogin adds routing information so a reply can travel back through the alias system.

1. The alias forwards the incoming message
A message addressed to your alias is delivered to one or more associated mailboxes. You read it in your normal mail application, such as the webmail or mobile app for that mailbox. The mailbox association is the destination for reading and replying; the sender does not receive your mailbox address merely because forwarding occurred.
2. SimpleLogin adds a special reply-to address
When SimpleLogin forwards the message, it inserts a special reply-to address. Community documentation commonly calls the address a reverse alias. It represents the conversation and the original contact without exposing your personal address.

3. Your mail app sends the reply to that address
When you press Reply, your mail app uses the reply-to address supplied in the forwarded message. You do not normally need to copy, edit or discover that address yourself.
4. SimpleLogin delivers the message with the alias as sender
SimpleLogin receives the reply through the reverse alias, routes it to the original contact and sets your SimpleLogin alias as the outgoing From address. The recipient can answer that message, and subsequent replies can follow the same route.
SimpleLogin’s documentation summarizes the workflow this way: “If you want to reply to an email, just hit “Reply” and the response will come from your alias.” It also states, “Your personal email address stays hidden.” Those statements describe the intended routing, not a promise that every third-party forwarding configuration will preserve the required headers.

- An alias that forwards to a mailbox you can access. You must be able to open the forwarded message and send mail from that mailbox.
- A supported paid plan for alias sending. SimpleLogin documents sending from an alias, including replies, as a paid feature. SimpleLogin Premium and Proton Pass Plus are examples listed in the documentation; plan names, benefits and eligibility can change.
- The original forwarded message. Replying to that message lets SimpleLogin identify the contact through its special reply-to address.
- A forwarding path that leaves the message headers intact. Additional alias or forwarding services can alter the headers that SimpleLogin needs.
If your account is on a plan that does not include sending from aliases, pressing Reply may still open a draft in your mailbox, but SimpleLogin will not necessarily be able to send it as the alias. Check the current official plan information for your account rather than relying on an old price, plan name or forum answer.

How to reply to an existing message
- Open the mailbox connected to the alias. Find the forwarded copy of the message that arrived through SimpleLogin.
- Open the complete message, not a notification preview. A preview or stripped-down view may hide the reply-to information needed for correct routing.
- Choose Reply in your mail application. Use the normal Reply control. Do not manually address the message to the contact’s visible address unless you have a separate reason to do so.
- Check the draft’s sender and recipient fields. The sending identity should be the SimpleLogin alias, while the technical recipient may be a reverse-alias address. Different mail apps display those fields differently.
- Write and send the message. SimpleLogin receives the reply, maps the reverse alias to the original contact and delivers the message with the alias in the From field.
- Confirm the result in Sent mail. Look for the alias as the sender. If the draft used your personal address, stop and diagnose the routing before sending sensitive information.
You do not have to log in to SimpleLogin for every ordinary reply. The normal mailbox Reply action is the intended workflow when the forwarded message contains the routing information.
Replying to a contact versus starting a new conversation
There are two different tasks that are easy to confuse:

Creating a reverse alias for a new contact
- Open the controls for the relevant SimpleLogin alias.
- Go to its Contacts controls.
- Create a reverse alias for the person or service you want to contact.
- Compose the message in your mailbox and send it to that reverse-alias address.
- Use the same reverse-alias address for later messages to that contact when the conversation is not initiated by an incoming forwarded email.
This process is different from replying to an existing message because there is no original forwarded email from which SimpleLogin can derive the contact route. The Contacts workflow creates that route first.

What the recipient can see
For a correctly routed reply, the recipient receives a message whose From address is your SimpleLogin alias. The purpose of the reverse-alias step is to let SimpleLogin reach the original contact without placing your personal mailbox address in the outgoing message. The official documentation describes this as keeping your personal email address hidden.

That privacy result depends on sending through the SimpleLogin route. If you bypass the route, reply from a different account or use a forwarding chain that rewrites headers, the message may not be treated as an alias reply. Always inspect the sender shown by your mail app before sending.
Forwarding configurations that can break replies
Another alias or forwarding service in the middle
SimpleLogin advises against using another forwarding or alias service as the mailbox receiving the message. Each extra hop can modify headers, recipient fields or reply-to information. When the message eventually reaches you, the Reply action may point to the wrong destination, or SimpleLogin may be unable to associate the response with the original contact.
Automatically forwarding an older mailbox into an alias
Forwarding an existing mailbox into a SimpleLogin alias can trigger header rewriting. SimpleLogin specifically warns that this can interfere with alias behavior. A setup in which the alias forwards directly to the mailbox you use for replies is less complicated than forwarding through an older account first.
Multiple mailboxes associated with one alias
SimpleLogin allows an alias to be associated with one or more mailboxes. Owners of those mailboxes can use the forwarded mail to reply or send from the alias, provided the account and plan support alias sending. Decide which mailbox will handle a conversation so that replies are not split between accounts.

Troubleshooting a reply that does not work
The reply is sent from your personal address
- Reopen the original forwarded message and use its Reply control instead of composing a new message.
- Inspect the draft’s From field before sending. Select the SimpleLogin alias if your mail app offers a sender selector.
- Check whether your current SimpleLogin plan includes sending from an alias.
- Look for an extra forwarding or alias service between SimpleLogin and your mailbox.
If the draft consistently defaults to your personal address, do not assume the recipient will be protected. Cancel the draft and correct the routing first.
The recipient never receives the message
- Confirm that you replied to the forwarded message rather than to a copied address.
- Check your Sent folder to see whether the message was actually submitted and which sender address was used.
- Verify that the alias is still active and associated with the mailbox you are using.
- Review whether a forwarding layer rewrote the message headers.
- Check your plan status if alias sending was recently changed, downgraded or canceled.
Replying works for one message but not another
Compare the two forwarded messages. The working message should retain the reply-to information inserted by SimpleLogin. A message that was manually forwarded, passed through another alias service or automatically forwarded from an older mailbox may have different headers. Use the direct SimpleLogin-to-mailbox path for future conversations.
You need to contact someone first
There is no incoming message to reply to in this situation. Create a reverse alias through the alias’s Contacts controls, then send the message to that address. The ability to send from the alias still depends on a paid plan that includes the feature.
Privacy and operational checks
Check the sender before every sensitive reply
Most mail applications hide technical routing details until you expand the sender information. Make the alias visible in the compose window and verify it before sending account details, documents or other private material.
Do not edit the technical recipient casually
The reverse-alias address is part of SimpleLogin’s routing system. Replacing it with the contact’s ordinary address can remove the alias path and expose your mailbox identity. Keep the recipient generated by Reply unless you deliberately follow the Contacts process for a new conversation.
Keep the mailbox relationship understandable
Because one alias may point to multiple mailboxes, document which mailbox is intended for replies. This avoids a situation in which one person reads the message while another sends the response from a different account or plan.
What is and is not guaranteed
The documented behavior is clear: reply to the forwarded message, and SimpleLogin routes the response through a reverse alias with your alias as the sender. The documentation also identifies alias sending as a paid-plan capability. However, plan availability can change, and third-party mail systems can rewrite headers or otherwise alter the message. A successful setup therefore requires both an eligible SimpleLogin account and a forwarding path that preserves the routing data.

No special email client is required. The key distinction is whether you are replying to an intact forwarded message or trying to start a new conversation without a reverse alias. In the first case, the ordinary Reply action is sufficient. In the second, create the contact route first.
Quick decision checklist
- Did the message arrive at a mailbox directly associated with the SimpleLogin alias?
- Are you opening the complete forwarded message and pressing Reply?
- Does the draft show the SimpleLogin alias as the From identity?
- Is your current plan eligible for sending from aliases?
- Have you avoided extra forwarding or alias services that could rewrite headers?
- If this is a new conversation, did you create a reverse alias in Contacts?
If all six answers are yes, the reply should follow SimpleLogin’s documented alias-routing workflow. If one answer is no, correct that condition before sending.
