Yes. Prologue to Tau is a permanent, replayable Codex quest once you have completed The Hex and The Old Peace. Replaying it runs the story again for lore; it does not erase quest completion, inventory, or account progression, and it does not award the original quest rewards a second time.
What replaying Prologue to Tau actually does
Digital Extremes describes the Prologue chapters as a permanent addition to Warframe’s main story and explicitly labels them replayable. The replay is a second pass through the narrative on your existing account. It is not a new quest slot, a New Game Plus mode, or an account reset.

Warframe Support explains the general rule for replayable quests: replays are “for lore purpose only,” and completing one again does not grant the original quest reward again. That distinction answers the two concerns most players have: you can revisit the story, but you do not trade away your current progression or duplicate the first-clear reward.

What remains on your account
- The completed status of the prerequisite quests remains completed.
- Your existing quest, item, and other account progression remains in place.
- Starting the replay does not create a replacement save or require a second account.
- The original quest reward is not issued again when the replay ends.
The Cross Platform Progression guide treats quests and items as progression on the unified Cross Platform Save account. A lore replay is therefore different from creating or replacing that account save.

Prerequisites and where to find the quest
You must finish both The Hex and The Old Peace before the Tau Prologue Series becomes available. The official announcement and hotfix notes identify those completions as the eligibility requirement.
- Finish The Hex.
- Finish The Old Peace.
- Open Warframe’s Codex.
- Select the Tau Prologue Series entry.
- Choose the available Prologue chapter and start the replay.
The quest was added to the Codex on October 15, 2026. It is a permanent entry, so you can start it at your leisure rather than having to complete it during a launch window.
If the Codex entry is missing
Check the two prerequisite quest records first. The documented access condition is completion of both The Hex and The Old Peace, not participation in the Taubound operation. If either quest is unfinished, complete it and then revisit the Codex.

Will replaying it reset your save?
No documented reset occurs. The replay runs on the account that already completed the quest. It does not undo a completed quest, remove items, or roll the account back to an earlier state.
Do not confuse “replay” with replacing a Cross Platform Save account. The progression guide’s description of quests and items on the unified account concerns how your existing progress is maintained across supported platforms. Selecting a replay from the Codex is simply a story activity within that progression.
| Choice or activity | Story access | Effect on existing progression | Reward behavior | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Replay Prologue to Tau | Runs the Prologue story again from the Codex | Uses the existing account; no documented save wipe or quest rollback | Original quest reward is not granted again | Permanent after The Hex and The Old Peace are complete |
| Start a new account | Begins a separate progression path | Does not replace the need for a replay on your current account | Governed by that separate account’s progression | Not required to revisit the Prologue |
| Epoch Operation: Taubound | Was the connected limited-time operation, not the Codex replay | Separate from the Prologue’s story replay | Its limited operation rewards and dialogue are not the Prologue replay reward track | The operation itself has no rerun documented in the cited announcement |
What happens to quest rewards?
The first completion and a later replay have different purposes. Warframe Support’s rule is that a replay is for lore and does not pay out the original quest reward again. You should therefore start the replay to revisit scenes, dialogue, and story context—not to farm a second copy of its first-clear reward.

Prologue to Tau is not the Taubound operation
The names and story connection make these easy to mix up, but they are separate systems.
The permanent Prologue
Prologue to Tau is the Codex-based story series. After the eligibility quests are complete, its chapters remain available permanently and can be replayed for lore. The official announcement says the Prologue remains in the Codex after the operation ends.
Epoch Operation: Taubound
Taubound was a time-limited operation with its own rewards and dialogue. The announcement states that the Prologue is not tied to the operation’s rewards or dialogue. Replaying the Codex series therefore does not reopen the operation, restore its limited rewards, or constitute a rerun of the event.

Conversely, taking part in Taubound was not identified as a prerequisite for opening the Prologue. The documented requirements are The Hex and The Old Peace.

Crash or disconnect while entering the Prologue
Digital Extremes reported crashes when players began Prologue to Tau and published a location workaround for the Dark Refractory access issue:
“Going to a Calm instance of the Necralisk and then using Fast Travel to return to the Sanctum Anatomica may allow you to access the Dark Refractory without issue.”
Apply that workaround as a navigation sequence:
- Travel to a Calm instance of the Necralisk.
- Use Fast Travel to return to the Sanctum Anatomica.
- Try to access the Dark Refractory and begin the Prologue again.
The wording is deliberately cautious: the workaround “may allow” access without the reported crash. It is not a guarantee, and it is not a save-reset method.
If an interruption occurs during a chapter
- Close and restart Warframe after a crash or disconnect.
- Open the Codex.
- Return to the Tau Prologue Series entry.
- Check which chapter or launch option the game presents and continue from there.
The official information establishes that the series is replayable and remains in the Codex. It does not promise a manual checkpoint selector, a chapter-by-chapter reset control, or a rule that replaying clears a partially completed chapter. Do not assume any of those behaviors unless a later patch documents them.

Common situations and the safest response
You completed the prerequisites but cannot see the series
Verify that both quest completions are recorded, restart the game, and check the Codex again. The documented launch point is the Tau Prologue Series entry; there is no published alternate menu path in the cited materials.
You want to replay only for story context
Use the Codex replay on your existing account. That is precisely the use case supported by Warframe Support’s “lore purpose only” explanation.
You want another copy of the original reward
The replay will not provide it. A second story run is not a second first-clear reward claim.
You are worried that starting the chapter will undo The Hex or The Old Peace
Nothing in the documented replay behavior indicates a rollback. Those quests are prerequisites for access, and replaying the Prologue is described as a lore run on the already progressed account.
You are trying to replay Taubound
Opening the Tau Prologue Series will not restart the operation. The permanent Prologue and the limited-time Taubound operation are separate, and the operation has no rerun documented by the announcement.
A quick pre-replay checklist
- Confirm The Hex is complete.
- Confirm The Old Peace is complete.
- Open the Codex and locate Tau Prologue Series.
- Remember that the replay is for story access, not a duplicate reward.
- Keep the Calm Necralisk to Sanctum Anatomica Fast Travel workaround in mind if the Dark Refractory entry crashes.
- After an interruption, restart the game and check the Codex rather than attempting to reset the account.
The practical answer
Replay Prologue to Tau from the Codex once The Hex and The Old Peace are complete. It is a permanent story replay, not a save reset: your completed quests and account progression stay intact, and the original quest reward is not granted again. Treat Taubound as a separate, limited-time operation, and use the Calm Necralisk-to-Sanctum Anatomica Fast Travel workaround if the reported Dark Refractory crash affects your launch.
