MLB The Show 26 does not have a documented in-game importer for your own MP3 library or playlist. You can still play personal music while you play by muting or lowering the game’s soundtrack and using your console’s background-audio app. Xbox has the clearest documented route through Spotify. PlayStation players report that background Spotify playback works, but that is a console workaround rather than a confirmed MLB The Show 26 integration. The Nintendo Switch version is supported, yet no official custom-music or background-playback method is documented for it.
What “replace the soundtrack” means in MLB The Show 26
There are two different ways a sports game can use personal music. A built-in importer lets the game read files from a console drive, organize them into a playlist, and trigger tracks during menus, at-bats, home runs, or other events. External playback is different: the console runs a music service at the same time as the game, while the game’s own soundtrack is turned down or muted.

MLB The Show 26 is documented for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Its official support information does not list a custom soundtrack importer, MP3 library tool, jukebox, or personal-playlist setting. That means you should not expect to copy songs to a USB drive and select them inside the game. The practical solution is to let the console handle your playlist and use MLB The Show 26 only for commentary, crowd noise, stadium ambience, and effects.

None of these platforms is documented as having a current MLB The Show 26 MP3 importer. The difference is whether the console can keep a separate music app running while the game is active.
How to play your playlist on Xbox
Xbox is the most clearly documented option. Spotify’s Xbox instructions say playback continues when you return to a game, and that the Xbox Guide can be used for playback controls.
- Install or open Spotify on the Xbox. Sign in if the app requests it, then open the playlist, album, or queue you want to hear.
- Start playback before launching or resuming the game. Confirm that a track is playing so you can tell whether the console has handed audio control to Spotify.
- Return to MLB The Show 26. Spotify should continue playing while you play. You do not need an in-game music importer because the console is mixing the two audio sources.
- Open the Xbox Guide when you need a change. Use the Guide’s music controls to pause, skip, select music, or change volume without leaving the game session.
- Adjust MLB The Show 26’s audio settings. Reduce or disable soundtrack music if that control is exposed in your installed version. Leave commentary, stadium ambience, crowd audio, and effects at the levels you prefer.
Spotify’s support guidance gives the relevant practical tip: “If the game allows, you can disable in-game music for the best Spotify experience.” Muting only the soundtrack is preferable to muting all game audio, because it preserves the sounds that communicate pitch, contact, fielding, and stadium atmosphere.

A useful Xbox audio balance
Begin with MLB The Show 26’s soundtrack volume at zero or its lowest setting. Keep commentary and effects high enough to hear calls, bat contact, catches, and other gameplay cues. Then set Spotify’s volume from the Xbox Guide. If the playlist overwhelms commentary, lower Spotify rather than disabling every game channel. If commentary is clear but the crowd disappears, raise the stadium or crowd channel instead of turning up the whole game.

Audio labels and menu placement can vary with the game’s current update and language settings. Look for the title’s audio or sound options rather than expecting a setting named “custom soundtrack.” The relevant control is the one that changes licensed or menu music, not the master volume.
Xbox problems and fixes
Spotify stops when the game opens
Return to the Xbox Guide and check whether playback is paused. If it is, resume it from the Guide rather than reopening the game. Also check that the console is using the same account that started Spotify and that the app is not waiting for a sign-in or playback confirmation.
The game music is still audible
Open MLB The Show 26’s audio settings and lower the soundtrack or music channel. Do not automatically lower master volume, because that also reduces commentary, stadium sound, and effects. If the title does not expose a separate music slider in your current build, use the lowest available music-related option and compensate with the Xbox Guide’s Spotify volume.

Press the Xbox button to open the Guide while MLB The Show 26 remains running. The Spotify controls are associated with the active background app, so they may not appear if Spotify is not currently playing. Start a track in Spotify first, then return to the Guide.

Using a personal playlist on PlayStation 5
PlayStation players report that Spotify can play in the background while a game is running. That makes the same basic arrangement possible: start Spotify, switch back to MLB The Show 26, then lower the game’s soundtrack so the external playlist is audible.
The qualification matters. The cited PlayStation evidence is a community discussion, not an official MLB The Show 26 feature specification. Background playback can therefore depend on the console’s current system software, the Spotify app state, and the game’s available audio controls. Treat it as a practical workaround rather than a guaranteed integration advertised by the game.
- Open Spotify on the PS5 and start the playlist you want.
- Switch back to MLB The Show 26 without closing Spotify.
- Use the console’s music controls to pause or skip tracks when needed.
- Open the game’s audio settings and reduce or disable soundtrack music if the option is available.
- Keep the game channels you need. Commentary, crowd, stadium, and effects can remain active while the external music supplies the soundtrack.
If background playback does not continue, restart Spotify and try again before launching the game. Because this behavior is not documented as a title feature, there is no MLB The Show 26 setting that can force the console to keep Spotify alive.
Can you add MP3s or custom walk-up music on PS5?
There is no documented MLB The Show 26 path for importing MP3 files into the game on PS5. The community discussion cited for PlayStation says that PS5 removed the older in-game MP3 import path, so copying files to storage should not be presented as a supported replacement for the soundtrack.

External playback also does not turn your songs into game events. Your playlist will not automatically become a player’s walk-up track, home-run cue, menu theme, or situational music through Spotify. It simply plays alongside the game. Any walk-up or presentation music that MLB The Show 26 supplies remains controlled by the title unless the game exposes a separate, documented customization feature.

MLB The Show 26 is officially supported on Nintendo Switch, but no official background-music or custom-playlist procedure is established for that version. Do not assume that an Xbox or PlayStation method carries over to Switch. A console that supports the game is not automatically a console that can run a music app over it.
Without a documented Switch audio-app path or a title-specific importer, the safe answer is that you cannot count on replacing the soundtrack with a personal playlist on Switch. Keep the game’s audio controls as your available option, and avoid treating unofficial experiments with storage or external devices as supported features.
Why older MLB The Show instructions mention “My MLB Music”
Some search results refer to a feature called “My MLB Music.” Sony’s February 13, 2008 PlayStation.Blog announcement described it for MLB 08: “My MLB Music will allow you to take the music you have on your PLAYSTATION 3 Hard Drive or on your PSP Memory Stick Pro Duo and create your own Jukebox Playlist.”
That announcement belongs to MLB 08 and its PS3/PSP environment. It is historical context, not evidence that MLB The Show 26 can import music. The hardware, operating systems, game architecture, and licensing arrangements are different. If an instruction tells you to use PS3 storage, a PSP Memory Stick, or an MLB 08 menu, it is describing the older game rather than the current release.
What the workaround can and cannot change
- It can replace what you hear as background music. Lowering the game soundtrack and playing Spotify gives you a personal listening mix during games and menus.
- It can preserve gameplay audio. Commentary, crowd noise, stadium ambience, and effects can remain enabled if the game offers separate controls.
- It cannot import files into MLB The Show 26. The game has no documented personal-library importer in the current platform information.
- It cannot assign Spotify tracks to specific in-game moments. External playback is not the same as event-based walk-up or home-run music.
- It cannot guarantee identical behavior on every platform. Xbox has first-party playback guidance; PlayStation behavior is reported by the community; Switch has no documented method.
Choosing the best setup for your platform
Choose Xbox if you want the clearest documented procedure and Guide-based controls. Start Spotify, return to the game, and manage playback from the Guide. Choose PlayStation 5 if you already use Spotify there and accept that background playback is a workaround supported by community reports rather than an MLB The Show 26 specification. On Switch, do not plan around a personal playlist unless a future official update documents a method.
For any platform that supports external playback, make the game’s soundtrack the first channel you adjust. Muting the complete game can remove useful feedback, while muting only music gives you the closest approximation to a custom soundtrack without sacrificing commentary or stadium sound.
Bottom line
MLB The Show 26 does not document a built-in way to replace its soundtrack with imported MP3s or a personal playlist. Xbox players can use Spotify in the background with Xbox Guide controls. PS5 players report a similar Spotify workaround, but it is not a confirmed game integration. The Switch version has no documented playlist workaround. The reliable approach is external console playback plus a lower or muted in-game music channel—not an in-game music import.
