Yes—if the problem is the removable stick module, you can replace the complete module yourself. Sony designed the DualSense Edge for this owner service, and its documented replacement takes no tools or special equipment. Left and right modules are interchangeable.
That is different from repairing the joystick mechanism inside the module. Sony’s official instructions explain how to remove and install the complete module, but they do not document opening the module or replacing its internal components. Treat an internal repair as an unsupported project, not as the normal Edge maintenance procedure.

What Sony officially supports
Sony’s support instructions say that when an Edge stick module “doesn’t work properly or stops working,” you can replace it with a new module sold separately. The supported job is a complete module swap, not a circuit-board or joystick-component repair. The official procedure is described at PlayStation Support’s DualSense Edge stick-module guide.

Check the part and the fault before opening the controller
Use the correct module
The official replacement is the Sony DualSense Edge replacement stick module CFI-ZSM1. Sony’s UK product listing specifies that it is for the DualSense Edge only, not the standard PS5 DualSense or another controller model: see the official product listing. The package is listed as one stick module with a standard cap and a user manual.
Left and right modules are interchangeable. You do not need to buy a left-specific or right-specific version; install the replacement on whichever side has the fault.
Confirm that the module is the likely cause
A drifting, intermittent, or nonresponsive stick can be caused by the removable module, but a controller-level fault can produce similar symptoms. Before ordering a part, check whether the problem follows one physical stick position, whether the controller consistently recognizes inputs, and whether the issue remains after reconnecting the controller and restarting the console. Do not assume that a new module will correct damage to the controller shell, its internal connector, buttons, or wireless electronics.

Prepare a safe work area
- Turn the controller off and make sure the player indicator is no longer lit.
- Disconnect the USB cable before removing the cover or module.
- Discharge static electricity by touching a nearby metal object that is grounded before handling the module.
- Keep your fingers away from the electrical connectors; do not touch or scrape them.
- Keep the small module away from young children.
- Watch the release lever and gaps in the controller so that fingers are not pinched.
- Do not power on the controller until the front cover is fully secured.
Sony gives these precautions in the DualSense Edge instruction manual. Because the documented exchange is tool-free, a screwdriver, soldering iron, or calibration device is not part of the official process.
How to replace a DualSense Edge stick module
Follow this sequence for either side of the controller. Work slowly; the module should slide along the controller’s guides rather than being forced at an angle.
- Power down and unplug. Turn off the DualSense Edge, verify that the player indicator is off, and disconnect the USB cable.
- Remove the front cover. Slide the rear RELEASE latch, then lift or slide the front cover away as shown in Sony’s instructions. Set the cover aside where it will not be scratched.
- Raise the module release lever. Lift the lever to unlock the installed module. Do not pull on the stick cap or touch the connector contacts.
- Slide out the old module. Pull the module straight out along its guides. If it resists, check that the release lever is fully raised instead of applying extra force.
- Position the replacement. Match the replacement module with the controller’s grooves and orient it so its connector lines up correctly.
- Slide it into place. Push the module along the grooves until it clicks into position. A click indicates that it has reached its seated position; it should not require tools.
- Lower the release lever. Return the lever to its locked position so the module is held firmly.
- Refit the front cover. Align the raised parts on the cover with the notches on the controller, then press the cover into place until it clicks.
- Inspect before switching on. Confirm that the cover is flush and locked, the lever is down, and no connector or module edge is exposed. Only then reconnect the USB cable or turn the controller on.
Test the controller after the swap
Start with the side that had the original fault. Move the stick slowly through its full range, then test small movements around the center and the buttons or triggers you normally use with that stick. Check both wired and wireless operation if your original symptom involved connection or intermittent input. Test in the console interface and in a game so you can distinguish a controller input problem from a game-specific setting.

If the replacement responds normally, the complete module swap has addressed the documented serviceable part. Keep the removed module separately if you need to identify which part failed; do not leave a loose module where children can reach it.
What to do when a new module does not solve the problem
Recheck seating first
Turn the controller off and disconnect USB again before inspecting it. Verify that the module is fully along the grooves, the release lever is completely lowered, and the front cover is clicked into its notches. A module that is not fully seated can appear dead or produce intermittent input. Never inspect or reseat it while the controller is powered.
Separate a module fault from a controller fault
If a correctly installed replacement shows the same symptom, the problem may be outside the removable module. Examples include damage to the controller’s module connector, the cover or lever mechanism, another input assembly, or the controller’s electronics. The official instructions do not provide a procedure for diagnosing or replacing those internal parts.

Escalate through PlayStation support
PlayStation’s controller-support page directs owners to its repair route for continuing stick or button problems and for broken or missing parts: PlayStation Controllers Support. The linked repair process can vary by country. The available sources do not establish regional eligibility, warranty coverage, price, shipping method, or turnaround time, so check the service options shown for your location rather than assuming that a repair is available on identical terms everywhere.
Replace the module or seek service?
| Choice | Best fit | Effort and equipment | Compatibility and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replace the complete stick module yourself | A faulty, drifting, intermittent, or nonworking removable module | Official procedure; no tools or equipment required | Use CFI-ZSM1 for DualSense Edge; replaces the module as a unit, not its internal joystick parts |
| Use PlayStation repair support | The fault remains after a correctly installed module, or the controller body, connector, lever, buttons, or electronics may be damaged | Service steps, cost, and turnaround depend on your region | Regional eligibility and terms are not established by the cited support page; verify locally |
The practical decision is straightforward: try the official module replacement when the symptom points to one removable stick and the controller itself is intact. Escalate when the fault persists, the module cannot seat correctly, or there is physical or electrical damage beyond the module.

When reviewed, Sony’s UK PlayStation Direct listing showed the CFI-ZSM1 module at £19.99 and included a one-year warranty. Those are UK listing details, and both price and terms can change; verify the current listing for your country before buying. The listing identifies one standard-cap module and a user manual in the box.

The official compatibility statement is narrow: this part is specified for the DualSense Edge. Do not substitute a standard DualSense joystick assembly or assume that a similarly named part fits. Stock, sellers, delivery dates, and prices outside the cited regional listing are not established here.
Can you repair the module itself?
Sony does not describe opening the stick module, replacing its internal joystick mechanism, cleaning its internal sensors, or recalibrating it after disassembly in the cited support guide or manual. That means the documented owner repair ends when you install a new complete module. It does not prove that every internal repair is impossible, but it does mean there is no official, model-specific internal-repair procedure to follow in these sources.
Opening the module would also move beyond the tool-free design Sony documents and could introduce connector, static, alignment, or physical-damage risks. If you are deciding between experimenting on the old part and using support, treat the old module as a replaceable component and use the official service path for faults that are not solved by replacement.
Essential safety checklist
- Controller powered off; player indicator dark.
- USB cable disconnected.
- Static discharged by touching grounded metal.
- Connectors left untouched and free of debris.
- Release lever raised only for removal and lowered after installation.
- Module slid in the grooves until it clicks, without force.
- Front cover aligned with its notches and clicked securely.
- Power applied only after the cover and module are locked.
In short, a DualSense Edge owner can safely perform Sony’s supported repair when “repair” means replacing the complete stick module. The CFI-ZSM1 module is Edge-only, left/right interchangeable, and installed without tools. Internal module repair is not documented; if a correctly seated replacement does not fix the controller, use PlayStation’s regional repair-support route instead.
