You can play a native PC version, access an eligible title through PC Game Pass, use a digital purchase that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, or stream a supported game through cloud gaming. These options are different: a Game Pass listing is subscription access, Play Anywhere is a cross-buy benefit for participating games, and cross-play is a multiplayer feature that must be supported by the individual game.
What “playing Xbox games on PC” can mean
Xbox games reach Windows PCs through several routes. A console release is not automatically a PC release, and owning one version does not necessarily grant another. Check the game’s listing and the terms of the route you plan to use.

These are independent questions: a game can have a PC version without being Play Anywhere, or support multiplayer cross-play without giving you a PC copy.
How to check whether a game you own on Xbox is playable on PC
Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the exact game’s Xbox Store listing or check Xbox’s participating-game information. The program applies to eligible digital games, not every Xbox purchase. Xbox says participating digital games bought through the Xbox or Windows Store can be played on Xbox, Windows 10/11 PCs, and supported gaming handhelds at no additional game-purchase cost.

Play Anywhere is digital-only: an Xbox disc does not automatically grant a Windows copy. For an eligible game, Xbox also says saves, add-ons, and achievements carry across supported devices. The same game can be signed into on only one device at a time. See Xbox Play Anywhere details.
Does PC Game Pass let you play Xbox games on PC?
PC Game Pass provides access to games in its PC catalog while your subscription is active and the title remains available. It is not permanent ownership of every game in the catalog. Access ends if the subscription is canceled or expires, or if the game leaves the library. Xbox notes that availability varies by time, region, plan, and platform.

Check the current PC Game Pass catalog and the specific game’s detail page rather than relying on an old list or assuming that a console Game Pass listing also means PC access. The game’s detail page is also where to check its hardware and operating-system requirements. Check PC Game Pass.
Can Xbox and PC players play together?
Sometimes. Cross-play is multiplayer between platforms, and it works only when the particular game supports it. Xbox’s PC FAQ says, “If the game supports cross-play, you can play your favorite XBOX games with your friends, regardless of where they play.” That does not mean every Xbox and PC game can be played together. How to install and check PC compatibility
Open or download the Xbox PC app, sign in, then find the game you want to play. Confirm that its listing offers a PC version or access through your plan, and review the game-specific requirements before installing.
Xbox’s app requirements page, checked October 7, 2026, lists Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher, 150 MB of storage for the app, and a 720p display. These are app-level requirements, not a guarantee that every game will run: games can require more storage and more capable hardware. Do you need a controller to play Xbox games on PC?
No general controller requirement is established for all PC games. Xbox lists its Wireless Controller and partner controllers as PC accessories, but input support depends on the game. Check the game’s listing if you want to use a controller; keyboard and mouse or other supported input may be available depending on the title. Xbox on PC accessories.
