Yes—but only for selected games. Microsoft has released a small group of former Xbox exclusives as native PlayStation versions: Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Grounded and Sea of Thieves. You buy and install those editions from the PlayStation Store and run them directly on PS5. This is a selective publishing strategy, not a blanket PS5 license for the Xbox catalogue.
Cloud streaming is a different route. Xbox’s current supported-device list does not include PS5, so an eligible Game Pass plan cannot be used to turn a PS5 into an officially supported Xbox Cloud Gaming client. To stream, use a listed device or browser with a compatible controller and a suitable connection.

Which Xbox games have official PS5 versions?
In an announcement dated February 21, 2024, Xbox confirmed four titles for Sony platforms. The announcement specified the following editions:

A title being available on Xbox, Windows or Xbox Cloud Gaming does not by itself mean that a PS5 build exists. Check the PlayStation Store listing and the game’s current support page for any later additions or regional differences.

Xbox described Grounded as having welcomed 20 million players and Sea of Thieves as having a community of more than 35 million players in the same 2024 announcement. Those figures describe the games’ overall communities, not the number of PS5 owners.
Pentiment: PS4 and PS5
Pentiment is the narrative adventure in the confirmed group with both a PS4 and PS5 edition. On PS5, select the PlayStation version rather than assuming that an Xbox purchase carries over. The announcement did not promise cross-play or cross-progression for this game, so treat it as a local PlayStation purchase unless its current support information says otherwise.
Hi-Fi RUSH: PS5
Hi-Fi RUSH received a PS5 version. The confirmed announcement did not attach a cross-play or cross-progression promise to it. If you previously played on Xbox or PC, do not assume that your save, achievements or entitlement will automatically appear on PS5.

Grounded: PS4 and PS5 with cross-play
Grounded is confirmed for PS4 and PS5, and Xbox announced cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation and PC. That lets players on those platforms join the same multiplayer sessions when they use compatible game versions and the required accounts or network features. Cross-play is a game feature; it does not mean that every Xbox title supports PlayStation multiplayer.
Sea of Thieves: PS5 with cross-play and cross-progression
Sea of Thieves is confirmed for PS5, with cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Its support information also confirms cross-progression, meaning your progress can carry between PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Follow the account-linking instructions shown by the game and its support service; possession of the Xbox version alone is not a PS5 license.

What “cross-play” and “cross-progression” actually mean
Cross-play connects players
Cross-play allows a PlayStation player to join multiplayer games with people on other listed platforms. For this group, Xbox explicitly announced the feature for Grounded and Sea of Thieves across Xbox, PlayStation and PC. It may depend on the game’s online service, privacy settings, region and current version. A friend being on Xbox is therefore enough only when the particular game supports that connection.
Cross-progression moves progress
Cross-progression concerns saves, unlocks or other game progress, not multiplayer matchmaking. Xbox support confirms it for Sea of Thieves between PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The same assumption is not safe for Grounded, Pentiment or Hi-Fi RUSH because the cited announcement did not establish cross-progression for them. Check the individual support page before abandoning an existing save.

An entitlement determines where a purchase can be installed. Xbox Play Anywhere covers one purchase across participating Xbox consoles and Windows PC in the Xbox ecosystem. It does not unlock a PlayStation Store copy. Even when a game has a PS5 edition, you should expect to acquire that edition through PlayStation unless the publisher explicitly states another arrangement.
How to play a native PS5 version
A native port is the most straightforward option because the game runs on PS5 hardware rather than being streamed from a remote server.
- Check the PlayStation Store listing. Search for the exact game and verify that the listing says PS5, or PS4 and PS5 where both editions are offered. Store availability can vary by country and can change after launch.
- Review the edition and publisher information. Confirm that you are buying the PlayStation edition, not an add-on, soundtrack or older-generation-only listing.
- Buy or redeem that PlayStation edition. An Xbox console or Windows purchase does not automatically create a PS5 entitlement under Xbox Play Anywhere.
- Download it to the PS5. Use the game page in your library or the PlayStation Store, then allow the installation to finish before starting online play.
- Complete any in-game account setup. For games with cross-play or cross-progression, follow the account-linking prompts and use the same supported account you use on the other platform. Keep the credentials secure and read the game’s current support instructions.
- Test the feature with a friend. For Grounded and Sea of Thieves, invite an Xbox or PC friend from the game’s multiplayer interface. If an invitation fails, check privacy, cross-play and version settings on every platform.
Native play still needs the normal PlayStation network and online requirements for multiplayer. Cross-play does not remove those requirements, and a game’s online service can change independently of the PS5 port.

Does Xbox Cloud Gaming work on PS5?
Microsoft’s current supported-device information does not list PlayStation 5. The documented categories include Windows PCs; Apple and Android phones and tablets; Xbox consoles; selected LG, Samsung and VIDAA smart TVs; Amazon Fire TV; selected Meta Quest headsets; and supported web browsers. Because PS5 is absent from that list, there is no officially documented way to use Xbox Cloud Gaming directly on PS5 hardware.

That is different from saying that cloud streaming is unavailable everywhere. Microsoft reported that players streamed 140 million hours through Xbox Cloud Gaming during October–December 2024 in a developer article published March 21, 2025. The service is active, but the client device must be one Microsoft supports at the time you use it.
Requirements for an officially supported cloud setup
- Eligible subscription: an eligible Game Pass plan is required for subscription games. Plan names, catalogues and cloud availability can change by region and date.
- Supported hardware or browser: use a device in Microsoft’s supported list or a supported browser rather than attempting to route the service through an unsupported PS5 app.
- Compatible controller: Microsoft lists compatible Bluetooth controllers, including Sony DualSense and DualShock models, for supported cloud devices. A controller pairing with a phone, TV or computer does not make PS5 itself a supported cloud client.
- Network capacity: Xbox recommends at least 10 Mbps on mobile devices and at least 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs and tablets. Actual results also depend on latency, Wi-Fi congestion, data caps and the distance to the streaming service.
Practical cloud-play procedure
- Choose a supported Windows PC, mobile device, smart TV, Fire TV device, selected headset or supported browser.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the eligible Game Pass plan or owns the cloud-playable game.
- Pair a compatible controller over Bluetooth or connect it by USB where the device permits.
- Use a stable connection meeting the relevant Xbox speed recommendation. Prefer wired Ethernet on a PC or TV when possible, or a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal.
- Open Xbox Cloud Gaming in the supported browser or app, select a cloud-enabled title and wait for the service to establish the stream.
- If input feels delayed, stop other high-bandwidth activity, move closer to the router or switch to a wired connection. Speed alone cannot eliminate latency caused by distance or congestion.
Can an Xbox Game Pass subscription be used on PS5?
Game Pass and PlayStation Store purchases are separate platform entitlements. An eligible Game Pass plan can provide cloud access on Microsoft-supported devices, and Xbox Play Anywhere can cover participating Xbox-console and Windows-PC versions. Neither policy creates a general PS5 license.
For the four confirmed ports, the normal expectation is a separate PlayStation purchase unless the publisher explicitly offers a different entitlement. A Game Pass subscription may still be useful on an Xbox, Windows PC or supported cloud device, but it does not install the Xbox catalogue on a PS5.

Common problems and how to diagnose them
“I own it on Xbox, but the PS5 store asks me to pay.”
That is expected when the PlayStation edition is a separate platform entitlement. Xbox Play Anywhere does not include PS5. Verify that the title is one of the confirmed ports, then decide whether the PS5 edition’s features justify buying it again.

“My Xbox friend cannot join my PS5 session.”
First check that the game is Grounded or Sea of Thieves, the two titles in this group with announced cross-play. Update every installation, confirm that cross-play and multiplayer privacy settings allow invitations, and ensure both players are using the same regional service availability. Do not infer support from another Xbox-published game.
“My old save is missing on PS5.”
Only Sea of Thieves has confirmed cross-progression in the supplied support information. Check that you linked the same account used on PC or Xbox and followed the game’s transfer instructions. For the other confirmed ports, the cited announcement does not establish automatic save transfer.
“I tried to stream through the PS5 browser.”
PS5 is not on Xbox’s official supported-device list. A browser opening a page does not establish compatibility, controller support or reliable streaming. Move the session to a listed device instead of relying on an unsupported workaround.
“The stream is blurry or controls lag.”
Measure the connection against Xbox’s recommendations—10 Mbps minimum for mobile devices and 20 Mbps for consoles, PCs and tablets—then reduce congestion, use Ethernet where practical and pair the controller directly with the streaming device. Latency can remain even when download speed meets the guideline.

- Confirm the game’s current PS5 listing and the edition included in the price.
- Read the game’s support page for cross-play, account linking and cross-progression rather than relying on the Xbox brand alone.
- For cloud play, verify your country, Game Pass plan, device model, browser and controller before paying for a subscription.
- Check storage space and download size on PS5, especially when choosing between a native install and a streamed alternative.
- Recheck availability immediately before purchase: supported devices, cloud catalogues, plans and regional access can change.
The reliable rule is simple: use the PS5 version when one is listed; use cross-play or cross-progression only where the individual game confirms it; and use Xbox Cloud Gaming on a device Microsoft officially supports, not on PS5 by assumption.
