Can Proton run Windows games on a regular PS5?
No documented method is available for ordinary PS5 owners. Sony’s support material covers supported PS4 games played on PS5, while its PC pages describe PlayStation games available for PC; neither establishes support for running Windows PC games on the console. Sony’s PS5 backward-compatibility guide is about PS4 titles, not Windows software.

Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program assesses how games work on Steam Deck, and Steam Support’s Steam Play information describes how some Windows-only Steam games may work on Linux. These are not instructions for installing Proton on a PS5.

Reporting dated October 3, 2026 describes PP (PS5 Proton) as an unofficial homebrew demonstration on a modified PS5. It is not a Sony-supported feature. The reports said there was no public PP build or code repository available at that time. That is a dated availability report, not a guarantee that the project will remain unavailable.

The reporting does not establish which PS5 firmware or modifications PP requires, how to install it, which games work, or how well they perform. A community discussion raises questions about access and compatibility but does not supply a stable technical guide. Until project documentation or a public release establishes those details, there is no responsible step-by-step procedure or game list to provide.

What to use if you want Proton today
If your goal is to play Windows games through Proton, consider a SteamOS/Linux device such as Steam Deck as a separate option. Valve’s Verified program provides game-specific context for expected Steam Deck experience. This does not convert a PS5 into a Proton device, and a Steam purchase should not be assumed to work on PS5.

Why a how-to guide is not available
A practical guide would need a publicly available project build and verified requirements, installation instructions, supported-game information, and performance evidence. The October 3, 2026 reporting does not establish those details. Avoid treating demonstration footage or community questions as proof that an ordinary PS5 can run a particular Windows game.
