Yes. Street Fighter 6 supports two people playing against each other on one console through the local Versus option in Fighting Ground. Connect two compatible controllers, open Fighting Ground from the main menu, choose Versus, assign a fighter to each player, and start the match.
You do not need to enter Battle Hub for a basic couch match. Battle Hub is the game’s online social and matchmaking space, while Fighting Ground contains the same-device local fight. Internet and Capcom ID requirements described by the official store listing apply to online-only content, not to the local-versus concept.

The short answer: use Fighting Ground, not Battle Hub
Capcom’s announcement identifies “local versus battles” as one of the modes included in Street Fighter 6’s Fighting Ground. The official Fighting Ground manual describes that section as the game’s traditional fighting-game area, and the Versus manual says you can battle either the CPU or another human player.

| Way to play | Where it happens | Opponents | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local Versus | Fighting Ground | Another person using the same console | Same-device play; Battle Hub is not required |
| Battle Hub | Online social hub | Players using separate connected systems | Internet access; online-only content can require a Capcom ID |
| Versus against CPU | Fighting Ground’s Versus area | Computer-controlled opponent | Uses the local Fighting Ground path |
Menu labels can differ by platform and language. If the main menu shows several Fighting Ground choices, select the one labeled Versus or local versus, rather than Battle Hub.
How to start a two-player couch match
- Prepare two compatible controllers. Connect or pair both devices with the same console before launching the fight. A controller can be wired or wireless if that device and the edition of the game support it.
- Open Street Fighter 6. From the main menu, enter Fighting Ground. You do not need to open the online Battle Hub for a local match.
- Select Versus. Choose the local Versus entry. On some platforms or language settings, the exact wording can be slightly different.
- Assign the inputs. The game should show a slot for each side. Move the first controller into Player 1 and the second into Player 2, then confirm each assignment.
- Choose fighters. Each person selects a character. If the game presents a control-type choice, choose Classic, Modern, or an available Dynamic option according to the player’s preference.
- Choose a stage and begin. Confirm the selections and start the match. Both players now fight on the same console.
The exact button used to confirm, back out, or join a player slot depends on the controller and platform. The important path is consistent: two recognized inputs, Fighting Ground, local Versus, two fighter selections, then the match.
What you need before inviting a friend
Two supported input devices
One controller is not enough for a two-person human-versus-human match. Pair or plug in a second compatible controller and make sure the console recognizes it as a separate user input. If both players are trying to operate one controller, the game cannot assign independent sides.
The correct game edition
Capcom announced Street Fighter 6 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Capcom’s separate Switch 2 manual also documents Versus play against another human and specifically discusses Joy-Con support. Controller compatibility and pairing screens therefore depend on the edition you own.
Access to Fighting Ground
Local play begins in the installed game through Fighting Ground. Battle Hub is a different, online-focused destination. Selecting Battle Hub first can make a simple couch match appear more complicated because that area is designed around networked players and online services.
Local Versus and Battle Hub are not the same feature
Local Versus means both people are sitting at the same device and sharing one game’s display. It is the straightforward couch-versus arrangement: two controllers, one console, and a match selected from Fighting Ground.

Battle Hub is an online space where players meet and fight. The PlayStation Store description warns that certain elements are online-only and require an internet connection, and it says a Capcom ID is required for online-only content. Those conditions describe network features; they do not make Battle Hub a prerequisite for opening a basic local fight.
| Question | Local Versus | Battle Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Are both players on the same console? | Yes | No; it is intended for online interaction |
| Do you choose it from Fighting Ground? | Yes | No; choose the online Battle Hub area |
| Does the mode depend on internet access? | The local match itself is designed as same-device play | Yes, for the online-only elements identified by the store listing |
| Is a Capcom ID needed? | Not for the local-versus concept described here | Required for online-only content according to the PlayStation listing |
| What inputs are used? | Two compatible controllers connected to one console | Players use separate online systems and their own inputs |
Do you need PlayStation Plus, Xbox online service, or a Capcom ID?
The official material supplied for this question does not name a paid console online subscription as a requirement for local Versus. Because the match is selected in Fighting Ground and uses two controllers attached to the same device, start there rather than signing into Battle Hub.
The PlayStation Store listing does establish two limits: some Street Fighter 6 elements are online-only and require an internet connection, and a Capcom ID is required for online-only content. If a console presents an account or network prompt while you are entering an online feature, that prompt belongs to the online service rather than to the basic idea of a couch match.
Platform policies can change independently of the game. If your console displays a platform-specific sign-in, license, or subscription notice, follow that edition’s current support documentation. The local-versus instructions themselves remain: use Fighting Ground and two compatible controllers.
Choosing Classic, Modern, or Dynamic controls
Street Fighter 6 offers three control types, and the choice can make a first couch session much more approachable.
Recommended Free Tools
Classic controls
Classic is the traditional control layout. It is the natural choice for a player who already knows the series’ conventional attack buttons and motion inputs, or who wants the full familiar fighting-game control scheme.
Rank #3
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
Modern controls
Modern simplifies how many actions are reached from the controller. It is available in Fighting Ground and can reduce the amount a newcomer has to memorize before a first match. A player who prefers the traditional layout can still use Classic while the other player uses Modern.
Dynamic controls
Capcom describes Dynamic Controls as suitable when “friends and family” visit for quick, casual games. That makes Dynamic a useful option for a guest who wants to start fighting without learning the complete command layout.
Dynamic is not universally available: Capcom says it is limited to offline play in certain Fighting Ground modes. If Dynamic does not appear in a particular menu, choose Classic or Modern, or use Dynamic in the offline Fighting Ground mode where the game offers it. Classic and Modern remain available throughout Fighting Ground.
Troubleshooting a local match
The second player cannot join
- Return to the console’s controller screen and verify that both devices are connected or paired.
- Reconnect the second controller before opening Fighting Ground, then enter Versus again.
- Check that the second device is assigned to a separate input or user slot rather than duplicating Player 1.
- On Switch 2, check the edition’s Joy-Con arrangement in the official manual; the supported configuration can differ from a full controller.
Versus is not visible
- Confirm that you opened Fighting Ground, not Battle Hub.
- Look for a menu entry named Versus or local versus. Platform and language settings can change the displayed wording.
- If the game opens an online area first, back out to the main menu and select Fighting Ground directly.
The game asks for internet access or a Capcom ID
Check which destination you selected. Battle Hub and other online-only elements can require an internet connection and, according to the PlayStation Store listing, a Capcom ID. A request that appears after choosing an online feature does not mean you must use that feature for a same-console fight. Return to Fighting Ground and choose local Versus.
Dynamic controls are unavailable
Dynamic is restricted to offline play in certain Fighting Ground modes. Select the offline Versus path where it is offered, or switch either player to Classic or Modern. The absence of Dynamic in one menu does not remove local multiplayer.
The two controllers work in the console menu but not in the match
Close the Versus setup, reconnect both controllers, and enter the mode again so the game can assign the devices afresh. Then confirm one side as Player 1 and the other as Player 2. If the problem persists, consult the manual for the exact edition because controller support and pairing steps vary among PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2.

Platform-specific considerations
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
Street Fighter 6 has PS4 and PS5 editions. The store listing’s online-only warning and Capcom ID requirement apply to network content. For couch play, use the edition installed on the console, connect two supported PlayStation controllers, and select Fighting Ground’s local Versus option.

Capcom announced an Xbox Series X|S version. Pair or connect two supported Xbox controllers, then follow the same Fighting Ground and Versus path. The menu wording can vary with the console’s language settings.
PC
Capcom announced a PC version. Two compatible PC input devices are required, and Windows may need to recognize each device separately before the game launches. Once both inputs are available to the game, use Fighting Ground’s local Versus menu.
Switch 2 edition
The official Switch 2 manual explicitly documents fighting “the CPU, or another human player” and includes Joy-Con support. Follow that manual’s controller arrangement for the edition you own, then enter Versus and assign one input to each player.
A practical pre-match checklist
- Two compatible controllers are connected and have enough charge if wireless.
- The game is open on the same console where both people will play.
- You selected Fighting Ground rather than Battle Hub.
- The menu is set to Versus or local versus.
- Each controller is assigned to a different player slot.
- Both players selected a control type they understand: Classic, Modern, or an available Dynamic option.
- You have not entered an online-only feature by mistake if you are trying to play offline.
Bottom line
Street Fighter 6 does have local multiplayer. For a couch match, connect two compatible controllers and choose Fighting Ground → Versus; Battle Hub, internet access, and Capcom ID are for online features rather than the basic same-console fight. The one important platform caveat is controller support: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2 editions can use different pairing procedures, and the Switch 2 manual specifically documents Joy-Con play.
