Its store-page feature classification is Single-player. Steam marks the game Verified for Steam Deck, but that status confirms handheld compatibility, not support for a second player. The same listing names Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV; it does not list Remote Play Together.
That means two people cannot use a Steam Deck, a second computer, or an extra controller to create a supported native multiplayer session. You can run the game locally on a Deck or PC and stream that single-player session to a supported screen, but the official Steam feature list provides no co-op route.

What the official Steam listing confirms
The relevant game is CAPCOM’s remake of Resident Evil 2, released on Steam on January 24, 2019. Steam classifies it as Single-player. That is the clearest answer to questions such as “Does Resident Evil 2 Remake have co-op?” and “Can two people play Resident Evil 2 on Steam Deck?”
The listing also shows Steam Deck compatibility as Verified. Verified is a compatibility designation for the handheld: it indicates that the PC game meets Steam’s criteria for running on Steam Deck. It is not a player-count label and does not add a multiplayer mode.

Steam lists two remote features for this title:
- Remote Play on Tablet
- Remote Play on TV
Those labels identify ways to display or stream the game session to another screen. They do not say that a second person can join as a co-op participant. The listing does not include Remote Play Together, nor does it advertise multiplayer.
Steam Deck: what “Verified” does and does not mean
What Verified tells you
A Verified badge answers a device-compatibility question: can this Steam game run on the Steam Deck under Valve’s compatibility checks? For Resident Evil 2, the answer shown by Steam is yes. You can install and play the remake on the handheld as a local game session.
What Verified does not tell you
Verified does not promise split-screen play, online co-op, local multiplayer, or a second control profile. Steam can mark a single-player game Verified because it works well on the device while retaining exactly the same one-player design as the desktop version.
Therefore, the correct reading is: the game is supported on Steam Deck for one player. It is not: “Steam Deck Verified means two people can play.” Device support and multiplayer support are separate properties.

Remote Play on Tablet or TV versus Remote Play Together
Remote Play on Tablet and TV
The Steam listing’s Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV labels concern streaming the running game to a tablet or television. The game still has one active game session and remains classified as single-player. Moving the picture and sound to another screen does not change the game’s player count.
Remote Play Together
Remote Play Together is a distinct Steam feature used by games that expose a compatible local multiplayer experience through Steam’s remote system. It is not the same label as Remote Play on Tablet or Remote Play on TV. Because Steam does not list Remote Play Together for this remake, you should not treat a tablet or TV streaming label as evidence that a friend can join the game.

Can another PC add co-op?
No. A second computer does not create a multiplayer mode that the game itself does not advertise. Installing the remake on another PC gives you another machine capable of running its own single-player session; it does not turn the two installations into one shared campaign.

Network proximity and ownership do not replace a game’s built-in multiplayer support. Since the official listing provides no multiplayer feature, there is no supported Steam setup in which one player controls a shared Resident Evil 2 remake session from one PC while another player joins from a second PC.

Can two people use one Steam Deck?
Not through an official co-op mode. The Deck can run the remake locally, but the store classification remains single-player. Connecting a second gamepad, keyboard, or other input device cannot add a player slot that the software does not expose. An additional controller may be useful for other games, but it does not supply a listed co-op function here.
You can, of course, take turns playing the same single-player campaign or let another person watch a streamed session. Those are shared-use arrangements around one player’s game, not simultaneous co-op. The distinction matters if you are deciding whether to buy a second controller, a second PC, or a Steam Deck specifically for two-player play: none of those purchases supplies an official co-op mode for this title.
How to verify the feature set before installing
If you want to check the listing yourself, use the game’s Steam store page rather than relying on a controller icon, a video title, or a general claim that a game “works on Deck.” Follow this sequence:

- In the game’s feature information, find the player-mode classification. It is shown as Single-player.
- Check the Steam Deck section. The title is marked Verified, which addresses compatibility with the handheld.
- Review the remote-play labels. The page lists Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV.
- Look specifically for a multiplayer label or Remote Play Together. The official listing does not show either for this game.
- Use those labels to make your purchase decision: they support one-player play on Deck or streaming to a screen, not a supported two-player session.
What is known about unofficial workarounds
The official Steam listing is evidence about the supported features CAPCOM and Steam advertise. It does not establish whether a community member has created an unofficial modification, injection, streaming arrangement, or other workaround. It also does not establish whether any such method is stable, safe, compatible with the current PC version, or usable on Steam Deck.

For that reason, an unofficial project should not be presented as an answer to “Can I play official co-op?” A mod or workaround would be a separate technical subject requiring its own verification. It could involve different installation steps, version requirements, performance limits, save-file risks, online-service restrictions, or other conditions that are not described by the Steam store page. None of those possibilities changes the official answer: the shipped Steam version is listed as single-player.

Common misunderstandings to avoid
“Verified” means multiplayer-ready
It does not. Verified describes how the title operates on Steam Deck. A Verified single-player game remains single-player.
Any Remote Play label means a friend can join
It does not. Remote Play on Tablet and Remote Play on TV describe where the session can be streamed or displayed. Remote Play Together is a separate feature, and it is not listed for this remake.

A second PC automatically creates online play
It does not. Multiplayer must be implemented and advertised by the game. Two installations do not add networking code or a shared campaign.
Two controllers guarantee local co-op
They do not. Controllers are input devices; the game must provide multiple player profiles, gameplay rules, and menus for them. The Steam listing identifies this remake as single-player.
Bottom line for a purchase or setup decision
If your goal is to play the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake with another person at the same time, do not buy a Steam Deck, another PC, or an extra controller expecting those products to unlock co-op. Steam’s official page supports a narrower conclusion: the remake runs on Steam Deck as a Verified title and can be streamed to a tablet or TV through the listed remote features, but it is sold as a single-player game and does not list Remote Play Together.
You can play alone on a Deck or PC, stream that session for someone else to watch, or take turns. A simultaneous, officially supported co-op campaign is not available through the Steam feature set shown for this title.
