Yes. MONOPOLY GO! is free to download and play on iOS and Android. You can roll dice, earn MONOPOLY money, build landmarks, collect properties, join events and interact with friends without buying anything. Purchases are optional, although paid bundles can provide additional dice, virtual currency, item replenishment, enhancements or access to selected events. Free play is therefore genuine, but the number and timing of rolls you receive can make progress slower and less predictable than it is for a paying player.
What “free to play” means in MONOPOLY GO!
The mobile game has no purchase requirement at download, launch or ordinary play. Scopely describes a loop built around rolling dice, collecting MONOPOLY money, acquiring properties, constructing landmarks and interacting with other Tycoons. The launch description also includes familiar board elements such as chance cards and jail, plus social and competitive activities.

On iPhone, iPad and Android, the app can be installed without an upfront charge. Apple’s listing states that MONOPOLY GO! is free to play while noting that some in-game items can be purchased with real money. The same model applies on Google’s platform: you can use the core game without paying, and the store processes any optional transaction.
What you can do without paying
Earn rolls through ordinary play
Your main limit is dice availability. The game supplies rolls and limited amounts of virtual currency through its normal systems, allowing a no-spend player to keep moving around the board, collect rent, upgrade landmarks and participate in the progression loop. Scopely’s player guidance specifically says that limited quantities of virtual in-game currency can be earned for free.

“Limited” matters: free currency and dice are not an unlimited faucet. Once your available rolls are used, you may need to wait for the game’s replenishment systems, claim another reward or return when an event offers more rolls.
Daily bonuses and friend activity
Daily bonuses are a regular source of extra dice and other rewards. A dated guide from PC Gamer also identifies friend invitations as an additional dice route. The exact amount and conditions can change, so treat these as features to check in your current account rather than as a guaranteed fixed payout.
Friend-based rewards may require the invited person to complete a qualifying action. Do not assume that merely sending an invitation always produces dice.
Promotional dice links
Promotional links can add free rolls, but they are temporary offers rather than a permanent entitlement. The documented guidance says that the Album feature generally requires level 15 before these links can be redeemed, each link is normally limited to one redemption per account, and links may expire.

- Use links from a reputable, current source.
- Check the expiration date and any level requirement before opening one.
- Expect a one-time redemption limit; trying the same link repeatedly will not create extra rolls.
- Never enter your store password or payment details into a page claiming to provide free dice.
Events, tournaments and sticker albums
Apple’s listing describes frequent events, tournaments, sticker albums and reward tracks that can include bonus money, stickers and building upgrades. These activities are free entry points, but their objectives, schedules and prizes vary with updates. A particular event may reward milestones for collecting points, landing on certain spaces or completing a temporary task; another update can replace those requirements.
Sticker albums deserve realistic expectations. They can provide meaningful rewards when you complete sets, but no available source establishes that every album or event can always be completed without spending. Missing stickers, event timing and the number of rolls you can earn all affect the outcome.
What costs money in the app?
Real-money purchases are optional add-ons to the free game. Scopely says offers can replenish items, unlock enhancements or grant entry to special in-game events. The store may present dice, cash, sticker-related items or bundles that combine several benefits; the contents and prices are not permanent.

Can you progress and “win” without paying?
In the practical access sense, yes: the game remains playable, and free systems provide rolls, currency and event rewards. You can advance around the board and build landmarks without purchasing dice.
That answer does not guarantee a particular finish line. Dice availability, random rolls, event rules and sticker drops influence how quickly you progress. Buying a bundle can increase the number of attempts available during a limited event or reduce the wait between sessions, while a no-spend player may need to spread play over more days. The available evidence does not establish a universal paywall, a guaranteed completion rate for albums or a promise that every event milestone is reachable for every free player.
Free play versus spending: the practical trade-offs
| Factor | No-spend play | Optional spending |
|---|---|---|
| Access cost | Free download and ordinary play on iOS and Android. | Additional charges for selected virtual items or event offers. |
| Progress pace | Depends on earned rolls, waiting periods, daily rewards and event timing. | Bundles can supply more rolls or resources at once, potentially allowing more attempts. |
| Reward reliability | Daily bonuses and scheduled events are useful, but promotional links expire and free quantities are limited. | Purchased contents are delivered according to the offer, subject to platform and account eligibility. |
| Content timing | You play the events and albums that are live for your account. | Some offers can grant entry or advantages tied to a special event, but the event itself is still time-limited. |
| Completion certainty | No universal guarantee for finishing every album or milestone track. | Spending increases available attempts but does not remove random rolls or guarantee a particular collection. |
| Budget control | Set a zero-spend rule and use only free systems. | Use Apple or Google purchase authentication, approval and spending restrictions. |
A practical no-spend routine
The following routine uses the free systems documented for the game while avoiding assumptions about a permanent event calendar.
Recommended Free Tools
- Claim the ordinary daily reward. Open the game each day you intend to play and collect whatever bonus is currently offered before spending rolls.
- Check the live event and tournament objectives. Choose milestones that fit your available play time. A free event entry is only valuable if you can realistically reach its requirements before the timer ends.
- Use earned rolls deliberately. If an event rewards a particular board action, consider saving rolls for the active objective rather than spending them immediately on an unrelated target.
- Review the sticker album. Record which sets are close to completion and prioritize free opportunities that award stickers or packs. Do not treat an incomplete album as proof that a purchase is required; event schedules and future rewards can change.
- Invite or connect with friends only through the game’s own features. Friend invitations can provide dice according to the dated guidance, but eligibility and payout conditions may apply.
- Check current promotional links carefully. Confirm level 15 eligibility for the Album feature where required, verify that the link has not expired and redeem it only once on the intended account.
- Stop when the free supply is gone. Waiting for the next replenishment is the zero-cost alternative to buying a bundle.
How to prevent accidental purchases
If children use the device, or if you want a strict no-spend account, configure the store controls before launching the game. Scopely documents parental approval and purchase restrictions for both iOS and Android. Turn on password, passcode or biometric confirmation for every purchase, require approval for a child account and review the platform’s spending-limit options.

- Game Type: Board Game
- Game Theme: Harry Potter
- Minimum Number of Players: 2
- Maximum Number of Players: 6
- Length of Play: 60 minutes
- Do not save an unrestricted payment method on a shared device.
- Read the confirmation screen for the item, quantity and total price before approving.
- Keep Apple or Google purchase receipts so an unfamiliar charge can be identified quickly.
- Use the platform’s family or parental controls rather than relying only on the game’s promotional wording.
How large is the spending economy?
Scopely said in 2025, citing Sensor Tower Intelligence estimates, that MONOPOLY GO! had generated more than $6 billion in lifetime in-app-purchase revenue. That estimate covers iOS and Google Play in-app purchases and excludes advertising and direct-to-consumer revenue.
The figure describes the size of the overall player economy, not an amount an individual must spend. A player can remain at zero purchases, while spenders may buy more rolls, shorten waiting periods or make more attempts during a time-limited event.
Do promotions or the physical board game provide free app content?
Dated promotional campaigns
Scopely announced a McDonald’s MONOPOLY campaign running from October 6 through November 1 that included MONOPOLY GO! dice-roll prizes and themed in-game items. That was a dated, geography-dependent promotion, not a standing source of rewards. Availability, participating markets and dates must be checked for the specific campaign year before relying on it.

The separate MONOPOLY GO! board game
Hasbro also documents a screen-free MONOPOLY GO! board game for ages 8 and older, with two to four players, four double-sided boards, dice, tokens, landmark blocks and a digital-token code. The instructions describe a free digital token for the app, but the documented code-expiry date was December 31, 2025. Because that date has passed, do not assume a newly purchased or older package still carries a redeemable code; check the packaging and current redemption terms.

The tabletop product is optional and separate from the mobile app. You do not need to buy it to install, play or progress in MONOPOLY GO! on a phone or tablet.
What should a zero-budget player expect?
Expect a playable game with recurring free rewards, but not an unlimited supply of dice or a fixed promise that every temporary objective will be completed. The strongest no-cost approach is consistent daily claims, selective event participation, careful use of legitimate promotional links and patience between replenishment periods. Spending changes the volume and timing of attempts; it does not turn random rolls or changing event rules into a guaranteed result.
If your goal is simply to play the board, collect properties and build landmarks, paying is unnecessary. If your goal is to finish every sticker album on a particular deadline, free play may be slower and less predictable, and no published guarantee says that spending will ensure completion either.
