Usually, yes. On PS5, you can often install only the Call of Duty modes you intend to play instead of downloading the campaign or Warzone. The exact choices depend on the specific release. Black Ops 7 has an explicit Install Options screen, while Black Ops 6 uses a different standalone packaging model. Warzone is a separate PS5 download, although some launcher-dependent features can still direct you through Warzone’s installation route.
The short answer depends on the Call of Duty title
There is no single installation rule for every Call of Duty game on PS5. Check the title, edition, desired mode and the content tiles shown by the console before accepting the download.

Black Ops 7: choose the components you need
For Black Ops 7, Activision provides an Install Options flow. You can clear Select All and choose individual modes or content packs. If campaign is offered as a separate selectable component, leave it unchecked and install only the multiplayer or other content you want.

Warzone has its own PS5 download path in Game Library. Installing multiplayer or another selected component of a paid Call of Duty release does not automatically mean that Warzone matches must be installed. You can keep Warzone off the console when the mode you want is available in the paid game’s own content list.

The launcher exception
Some features are tied to the Call of Duty launcher rather than a conventional standalone game tile. Activision’s Endgame instructions state that players without the launcher must use the platform marketplace to find Warzone and install the Endgame option. In that situation, Warzone may appear in the installation route even if you do not plan to play Warzone matches.
How to install only the modes you want in Black Ops 7
Use this process when setting up Black Ops 7 on a PS5. The labels can vary slightly by console language or software revision, but the sequence is the same.
- Update the PS5. Install any available system-software update before starting the game download. A current system reduces the chance that a content-selection screen or license check is unavailable.
- Open Game Library. From the PS5 home screen, open Game Library and select the specific Call of Duty title you purchased or own on disc. Do not select the separate Warzone tile unless Warzone is the mode you want.
- Choose Download. Start the download for the game. If the title presents a component-selection screen, continue to Install Options rather than accepting a default bundle.
- Clear Select All. In Install Options, uncheck Select All. This exposes the individual campaign, multiplayer and other content choices so that you can make a smaller installation.
- Select the required content. Tick only the modes or packs you plan to use, such as multiplayer. Leave campaign, Warzone-related items or other unwanted components unchecked when they are listed separately.
- Select Install. Confirm the selection with Install. The PS5 will download the chosen components rather than every item presented in the default selection.
This procedure does not guarantee that every release will expose identical tiles. It is specifically the selectable-content behavior documented for Black Ops 7, so use the labels actually shown for your edition.

When a release supports modular content, you can manage it from inside Call of Duty instead of reinstalling the entire game.

Use Manage Files
- Launch Call of Duty on the PS5.
- Open Menu.
- Select Manage Files.
- Review the installed content list.
- Choose the campaign pack or another component you no longer need, then select the available uninstall or remove command.
Activision describes this file-management system as a way to reduce the storage used by the Call of Duty library. The exact packs available for removal depend on the game and the edition installed. If campaign is not displayed as an independent item, that release does not offer a separate campaign package through the current screen.
What to check after removing a pack
- Return to Manage Files and confirm that the unwanted component is no longer marked installed.
- Start the mode you intend to play and allow any required shared files to remain installed.
- Keep the console online while the game verifies licenses and content ownership.
- Do not delete the entire game tile from PS5 storage when your goal is only to remove one mode.
Do you need Warzone installed for multiplayer?
For a paid Call of Duty title that provides its own multiplayer component, Warzone is not automatically required. Warzone is distributed as a separate PS5 download, and its presence in the Game Library does not mean that every other Call of Duty mode depends on it.
The practical test is the content list shown by your title. If multiplayer appears as a selectable component under Install Options or Manage Files, install that component and the shared files it identifies. Do not select the separate Warzone download unless you want Warzone or a feature whose launcher path requires it.
Why the console may still ask for Warzone
A Warzone prompt can occur when the feature you selected is distributed through the Call of Duty launcher. Activision’s Endgame setup is the documented example: users without the launcher are directed to the platform marketplace to find Warzone and install the Endgame option. That prompt concerns the launcher route, not a blanket requirement to play every multiplayer mode.

Why Black Ops 6 can behave differently
Do not use the Black Ops 7 screen as a rule for every Call of Duty release. Activision’s Black Ops 6 guide, updated May 7, 2026, describes Black Ops 6 as a standalone title across platforms. Players who own the disc still need the Call of Duty experience installed to install the game.
That packaging differs from Black Ops 7’s documented selectable-content flow. A Black Ops 6 owner may therefore see a different initial download sequence, different shared files and different removal choices. Before deleting anything, open the title’s own Manage Files screen and note which entries are labeled as required or optional.

The installation path can differ between a digital license and a disc edition because the PS5 must verify ownership differently. The disc itself does not establish that every mode is optional, nor does a digital purchase guarantee that campaign appears as a removable pack.

- Content screen: the components actually listed in Install Options or Manage Files.
Troubleshooting common installation problems
Install Options does not appear
Confirm that you selected the correct game tile in Game Library rather than the separate Warzone tile. Then update the PS5 system software, restart the console and launch the title again. If the release does not provide modular installation, there may be no selectable-content screen to open.
Campaign keeps downloading
Pause the download and inspect the item name in the PS5 Downloads menu. If campaign is a separate task, cancel it and return to the game’s Install Options screen to clear Select All. If it is bundled into a single required package, the title does not expose campaign as an independent download choice.
The game asks for Warzone
Read the name of the requested component. A prompt mentioning the Call of Duty launcher or Endgame indicates a launcher-dependent path. Follow that path only if you need the feature; otherwise return to the paid title’s own multiplayer or campaign installation choices.

Open Menu > Manage Files and check whether the mode, shared files or compatibility pack is marked missing. Reinstall only the item the screen identifies as required instead of restoring the entire library.
The PS5 reports insufficient storage
Use Manage Files to remove optional campaign or other packs that the release lists separately. Keep the console online while making changes so the game can validate the remaining files. If no optional packs are shown, the title’s packaging may require a larger base installation.
A practical decision checklist
- Write down the exact Call of Duty title and edition.
- Decide whether you need multiplayer, campaign, another paid mode, Endgame or Warzone.
- Open the matching title in Game Library, not an automatically suggested tile.
- Use Install Options when available and clear Select All before choosing components.
- After installation, use Menu > Manage Files to remove packs the game identifies as optional.
- If Warzone is requested, determine whether the request is for Warzone matches or for a launcher-dependent feature such as Endgame.
- Keep any shared files that the game marks as required for your chosen mode.
The safest answer is therefore title-specific: Black Ops 7 lets PS5 players select content and omit campaign when it is listed separately; Warzone is normally its own download; and launcher-dependent features can create an exception. Black Ops 6 and other releases may package their files differently, so the Install Options and Manage Files screens on your copy are the final authority.
