There is no verified PC hardware requirement for Call of Duty 3 at 144Hz or 180Hz. The official listing reviewed identifies Call of Duty 3 as the Treyarch-developed, Activision-published game released in November 2006 and lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. It does not list a Windows or other PC release, PC system requirements, or a supported 144Hz or 180Hz frame rate. See the official Xbox listing.

That means it would be misleading to name a CPU, graphics card, amount of RAM, or “180 FPS” build for this exact game. First confirm whether you mean the 2006 Call of Duty 3 or a different Call of Duty title made for PC.

What the official listing confirms

The platform question has to be settled before performance advice can be accurate. The official Microsoft Xbox page describes Call of Duty 3 as a 2006 release from Treyarch and Activision. Its supported-play-platform information is Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The page does not provide Windows system requirements or a PC download option.

“Not stated” is important here. It does not prove that no unofficial emulator, compatibility layer, or community project can display the game on a computer. It does mean there is no official PC specification from the source reviewed on which to base a responsible build recommendation.

Why a 144Hz or 180Hz PC recommendation cannot be given

A 144Hz or 180Hz monitor can refresh up to 144 or 180 times per second, but a game must also run on a supported platform and produce frames at a matching rate. For Call of Duty 3, the checked official material does not establish a native PC executable, a PC graphics API, a frame-rate cap, a renderer, or a supported high-refresh mode.

Without those facts, a statement such as “buy this GPU for 180 FPS” would be invented. The same is true for a CPU tier, memory capacity, storage requirement, resolution target, or graphics preset. A monitor’s refresh specification alone cannot create a supported PC version of a console game.

The sources also do not substantiate that Call of Duty 3 itself runs at 144Hz or 180Hz on the listed Xbox platforms. Consequently, there is no evidence-based frame-rate target to translate into PC hardware.

Do not confuse Call of Duty 3 with Modern Warfare III

The most likely source of the confusion is the similar naming of later games. The Activision support page found for PC specifications is specifically titled “PC System Requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.” It is not a requirements page for Call of Duty 3.

You can read that separate page at Activision Support’s Modern Warfare III requirements article. Its CPU, GPU, memory, storage, operating-system, and performance information must not be transferred to the 2006 title. A game with “III” in its name is a different product from “3,” with different code, assets, operating requirements, and platform support.

Title label What the reviewed evidence says Can its requirements answer this question?
Call of Duty 3 2006 Treyarch/Activision release; official listing reviewed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Yes, for clarifying the platform; no PC specification is supplied
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Separate Activision PC requirements page No; it is a different game

How to identify the exact game before buying hardware

Use the following checks if a store page, video, launcher, or search result has led you to this question:

  1. Read the complete title. “Call of Duty 3” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III” are not interchangeable names.
  2. Check the release-era information. Call of Duty 3 is the November 2006 Treyarch title identified by the Xbox listing.
  3. Inspect the platform badge. An Xbox listing is not evidence of a native Windows build. Look for an explicit Windows or PC edition from an official publisher or platform page.
  4. Verify the publisher’s requirements page. The page must name the exact title, not merely the franchise or a later sequel.
  5. Confirm the intended display target. State the resolution, refresh rate, and whether you need a native PC version. “144Hz monitor” and “144 frames per second” are related but not identical requirements.

If any of these checks fail, pause the purchase. A component list copied from a different Call of Duty game can cost money without solving the compatibility problem.

What 144Hz and 180Hz mean in this context

Refresh rate is a display characteristic: 144Hz means the panel can refresh 144 times per second, while 180Hz means it can refresh 180 times per second when the connection, display mode, and source device support that mode. Frame rate is the number of rendered images the game produces. A high-refresh monitor can show a high frame rate only when the game and platform deliver those frames.

  • TÜV Rheinland certified Flicker Free and Low Blue Light — eliminating the ~200Hz screen flicker common on standard monitors and reducing harmful blue light exposure to minimize eye strain during extended gaming or work sessions.
  • 144Hz high refresh rate delivers ultra-smooth motion and sharper tracking versus standard 60Hz or 75Hz monitors — keeping every frame fluid and responsive for fast-paced FPS, racing, and action games without screen tearing or stuttering.
  • MSI's built-in Eye-Q Check provides a vision assessment tool to help optimize display settings for healthier long-term viewing — designed for professionals and students spending extended hours in front of a Full HD IPS screen.
  • Tilt-adjustable stand (-5°~20°) for comfortable viewing at any desk setup, with VESA 100×100mm wall mount compatibility for monitor arms, brackets, and multi-monitor arrangements — reducing neck strain during long gaming or work sessions.

For a supported PC game, a hardware recommendation would normally need at least the game’s official minimum and recommended specifications, the desired resolution, graphics settings, operating system, and a reliable frame-rate target. None of those PC inputs are established for Call of Duty 3 by the reviewed sources. Treating the monitor’s refresh number as the missing specification reverses the normal process.

What to do if you already own Call of Duty 3

Using the listed console platforms

The official listing identifies Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported play platforms. If your copy and account are compatible with one of those consoles, use the console’s documented display settings and the game’s actual output rather than shopping for a PC graphics card. The reviewed evidence does not promise a 144Hz or 180Hz mode, so do not assume that a high-refresh television or monitor will make the game run at either rate.

Finding a computer copy

If you believe you have a PC copy, inspect its original packaging, storefront record, or license name. Record the exact title and edition, then look for an official support page for that product. Do not infer that an executable, emulator setup, or compatibility workaround is an officially supported PC release. Community solutions can have different legal, technical, and performance constraints, and the sources reviewed here do not document one.

What to do if you meant a different Call of Duty game

Start over with the exact title, including its subtitle and release year. Then obtain that game’s own official PC requirements. Only after that should you match the minimum and recommended components to a 144Hz or 180Hz objective.

  • up to 180Hz Refresh Rate: Pushing beyond the standard 144Hz, 165Hz gives gamers an edge in visibility as frames transition instantly, leaving behind no blurred images.
  • IPS Panel: The IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel cannot be beat when it comes to consistently delivering top color performance and sharp visibility from multiple viewing angles.
  • AMD FreeSync: With FreeSync, gamers now enjoy smooth video and seamless on the spot movement through their fast paced games. FreeSync is an AMD technology that nearly eliminates tearing and stuttering due to differences between a graphics card's frame rate and a monitor's refresh rate.
  • Edgeless Design: Edgeless Design completely immerses you in all the captivating action and wondrous scenery that 1080P resolution and 165Hz refresh rate have to offer.
  • Multiple Digital Ports: While three HDMI ports each deliver an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, one DisplayPort produces a stunning 165Hz refresh rate, all in FHD resolution.
  • Use the official requirements for the exact game and edition.
  • Separate minimum playability from the specification for a particular refresh rate.
  • Check whether the stated performance is tied to a resolution, preset, upscaling mode, or benchmark.
  • Confirm that the monitor connection and graphics hardware support the chosen refresh mode.
  • Look for a frame-rate limit or synchronization setting in the game’s documentation.

The Modern Warfare III support page linked above can answer a Modern Warfare III question, but it cannot answer a Call of Duty 3 question. If your search result used “COD 3” as shorthand for another sequel, replace the shorthand with the full official name before comparing parts.

Why buying a GPU first is the wrong decision

A graphics card is only one part of a supported PC configuration. For this title, no official PC build target has been established, so selecting a GPU by its model number or by a claimed 180-FPS result would create false precision. The same caution applies to processor recommendations, memory kits, SSD capacity, and monitor purchases.

Even if a computer can display a video signal at 144Hz or 180Hz, that does not establish that Call of Duty 3 is running natively, that the game is producing frames at that rate, or that the result is supported by the publisher. Verify the software and platform first; spend on hardware only after a title-specific requirement exists.

Search pages and forum posts may use “COD 3” for several different products. The short label is not sufficient evidence of identity. Use the complete title shown on the license or official store page.

Requirements copied from a later sequel

A later game can have a PC requirements page even when the 2006 game you mean does not. Similar branding does not make its figures transferable.

Refresh-rate promises without a source

A claim that a particular card reaches 144 or 180 FPS needs a named game version, resolution, settings, test conditions, and supported platform. The reviewed Call of Duty 3 sources contain none of those PC benchmark details.

Evidence-based answer to the three practical questions

  • “What PC do I need to play Call of Duty 3 at 144Hz?” No official PC configuration or 144Hz target is established for Call of Duty 3 in the reviewed sources.
  • “Can my PC run COD 3 at 180 FPS?” The question cannot be answered responsibly until the exact title and a supported PC version are identified; the sources do not substantiate 180Hz or 180-FPS play for Call of Duty 3.
  • “What graphics card do I need?” No graphics-card requirement is provided for Call of Duty 3 because the official listing reviewed does not present a PC release or PC specifications.

Bottom line for a hardware purchase

Do not buy a CPU, GPU, RAM kit, or 144Hz/180Hz monitor on the assumption that it is required for Call of Duty 3. The official listing reviewed is for the 2006 Xbox-supported title and supplies no PC requirements; the Activision PC page is for Modern Warfare III, a different game. Identify the exact title and platform first, then use that game’s own official requirements before making a performance or hardware decision.
