Why there is no offline mode
Activision’s Black Ops 7 editions guidance is explicit: “you’ll need a continuous internet connection to play any game mode, including Campaign.” That requirement applies even when you intend to play alone. Starting the Campaign does not create an offline exception, and losing the connection can prevent you from continuing until the game reconnects.

This is different from a game that merely needs the internet for matchmaking or an initial license check. Black Ops 7 is designed as a connected experience, with Campaign progression tied to global progression across the game. Multiplayer, Zombies, Co-Op Campaign and Endgame all sit inside that connected structure.
What “solo” means in the Co-Op Campaign
The official campaign description says you can “squad up or go solo.” Solo refers to the number of human players, not to an offline mode. You can tackle the Co-Op Campaign without inviting anyone, but your console or PC still has to maintain the required connection.

What is not documented
No official material promises an offline bot mode, an offline Multiplayer playlist, offline Zombies, or a local split-screen Campaign for Black Ops 7. Do not buy the game expecting those features to work after disconnecting the console or PC. A local display setup also does not remove the online requirement.
How cross-play works between Xbox, PlayStation and PC
Cross-play puts supported Xbox, PlayStation and PC versions in the same online ecosystem. A player on an Xbox console can therefore join a friend on PlayStation, while a PC player can join either console platform. The exact matchmaking experience can vary by platform settings and account status, but the platform families are covered by the game’s cross-play support.
Cross-play is different from cross-progression
Cross-play answers whether people on different systems can enter the same game. Black Ops 7 also describes progression as carrying across modes, but that statement is about the game’s connected progression system; it is not a promise that every purchase, save file or entitlement transfers between every storefront. Treat your platform purchase and account entitlements separately from the ability to play in a mixed-platform party.

Cross-generation support
The supported platforms are PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Battle.net and Steam. Cross-Gen editions cover both console generations within one family. A PlayStation Cross-Gen purchase is intended to cover PS5 and PS4, while the equivalent Xbox Cross-Gen edition covers Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Cross-Gen solves generation compatibility inside one console family. It does not make the game playable offline, and it does not provide free console online multiplayer when the platform requires a subscription.
Playing the Co-Op Campaign with friends
The Co-Op Campaign supports a party of up to four human players: one host or solo player plus as many as three additional players. Shared objectives, synchronized story moments and progression that carries across modes are part of the campaign design.

- Launch the game while connected. Because every mode requires a continuous connection, verify that the console or PC is online before opening the Campaign.
- Open the Social tile. The official COD 101 guide directs players to the Social tile for inviting friends.
- Select the friend you want to bring into the party. Friends can be on Xbox, PlayStation or PC when cross-play is available for their versions.
- Send the invitation and wait for the party to form. Each player must be able to use the relevant online and social features of their platform.
- Start the Co-Op Campaign. If nobody joins, select the solo option and continue alone; the internet requirement remains in force.
For a mixed-console group, check that everyone is using a supported version and is signed in to the account required by their platform and the game. If an invitation does not arrive, confirm that the recipient is online and that the platform’s social restrictions are not blocking invitations.
Do you need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass?
Activision states that PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass is required on consoles for online multiplayer and social features. That covers the normal situation in which you join other players, use party-based social functions or enter online multiplayer activities.
The stated exception is solo Co-Op Campaign play. You may play that campaign alone without the console online subscription, but you still need the continuous internet connection required by Black Ops 7. The exception is therefore about the subscription, not about going offline.

Subscription rules can change by platform, region and season. Check the current console store or membership terms before purchasing, especially if your plan is close to expiring. On PC, the console subscription requirement does not apply, but the continuous internet requirement and the relevant PC storefront account remain necessary.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is built around online sessions and cross-play. Friends on supported Xbox, PlayStation and PC versions can enter the same ecosystem, but a console player still needs the applicable online subscription for multiplayer and social features.
Zombies
Zombies is presented as an online-oriented mode. The available official information does not promise an offline Zombies playlist or offline bots, so plan on an internet connection rather than assuming a solo match is local.

Endgame
Call of Duty describes Endgame as a replayable shared experience connected to the Co-Op Campaign. Its shared design places it on the connected side of the game, not in an offline campaign category.
Supported platforms and choosing an edition
Black Ops 7 launched worldwide on November 14, 2025. The supported release families are:
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox PC
- Battle.net for PC
- Steam for PC
If you own or plan to buy within one console family, a Cross-Gen edition covers both listed generations in that family. It is useful when a household is moving from PS4 to PS5 or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, but it does not grant a copy on another family’s storefront. A PlayStation Cross-Gen edition is not an Xbox or PC license, and an Xbox Cross-Gen edition is not a PlayStation license.
When a purchase is the wrong solution
If your main requirement is a game that works on a flight, in a cabin or on a network with data limits, Black Ops 7 is not a suitable choice because no mode is officially available offline. If your priority is joining friends on another console, verify the edition and platform first, then budget for the console subscription required for online multiplayer and social features.
Troubleshooting connection and party problems
- The Campaign will not start after disconnecting: reconnect the console or PC before launching. The Campaign is covered by the continuous-connection rule.
- You can play solo but cannot invite anyone: check the console’s PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass status, since solo Co-Op Campaign play is the subscription exception but party play uses online social features.
- A friend on another console cannot join: confirm that both players are on supported Xbox, PlayStation or PC versions, are online, and are using the in-game Social tile for the invitation.
- You bought a Cross-Gen edition but changed platform families: Cross-Gen covers generations within one console family; it does not transfer the purchase to another platform family or PC storefront.
- Progress appears inconsistent: remember that the game’s Campaign progression is connected to global progression across modes. Allow the game to reconnect and synchronize before switching devices or continuing elsewhere.
Bottom line for common situations
For a player asking “Can I play Black Ops 7 without internet?”, the answer is no, including Campaign and solo play. For “Can I play with a friend on another console?”, the answer is yes when both players use supported Xbox, PlayStation or PC versions and meet their platform’s online requirements. For “Do I need Game Pass or PlayStation Plus?”, console multiplayer and social play require the applicable subscription, while solo Co-Op Campaign is the documented exception. The game launched on November 14, 2025, supports PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and the listed PC storefronts, and Cross-Gen editions address console-generation changes rather than offline access.
