Asphalt Legends supports cross-play multiplayer between its phone, PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch versions. A player on Android or iPhone can race someone on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch, provided everyone is using a compatible, up-to-date version and the game’s online services are available in their region.
Cross-play and cross-save are different features. Gameloft’s support documentation says cross-save is available on all supported platforms except PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Those players can still race with people elsewhere, but they should not assume that garage progress, currencies, or unlocks will synchronize with a phone, PC, or Xbox account.

What cross-play means in Asphalt Legends
Cross-play lets players on different hardware enter the same multiplayer session. The game treats the platforms as connected multiplayer environments rather than separate player pools. In practical terms, a phone player can compete against a PC player, an Xbox player can join a friend on mobile, and a PlayStation player can enter a race hosted by someone on another supported system.
Gameloft announced cross-platform support as a first for the Asphalt series. The launch program covered Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, Steam, the App Store, Google Play, PS4, and PS5, with Nintendo Switch included in the same cross-play program. Xbox Wire identified the Xbox and Windows Unite launch date as July 17, 2024.

Cross-play affects multiplayer access only. It does not automatically mean that your account, settings, purchases, or progression move between every device.

- Install the same game version. Download Asphalt Legends from the appropriate mobile, PC, Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch store. Apply pending game updates before trying to join a friend.
- Complete the game’s initial setup. Start the game while connected to the internet and sign in to the account options it presents. Gameloft describes Gameloft ID as a unified login, but that login should not be treated as a promise that every platform shares the same save data.
- Make sure both players are online. A local connection, suspended console session, or platform network outage can prevent invitations even when cross-play itself is working.
- Use the multiplayer and friend-invitation features. Add or select your friend through the in-game social or multiplayer interface. Because menu labels can differ by platform and update, use the current on-screen friend or invite command rather than relying on an old button name.
- Create or join a private room. Gameloft says private rooms allow the host to invite friends and set the track, car class, racing mode, number of laps, and other parameters.
- Confirm the lobby before starting. Check that every invited player appears in the room and that the selected settings are acceptable to the group. The host then starts the event.
A private room is the most predictable option when the goal is to race a specific friend. Public matchmaking can also place players from different platforms together, but it does not guarantee that a particular friend will be assigned to the same race.

Cross-play versus cross-save
Cross-play
Cross-play answers: “Can these players enter the same multiplayer race?” For Asphalt Legends, the answer is yes across the listed phone, PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch ecosystems.
Cross-save
Cross-save answers: “Can I continue the same account progression on another device?” Gameloft’s support page states that cross-save is available for all platforms except PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. That exclusion is platform-specific: it does not remove those systems from multiplayer cross-play.

What may not transfer
Do not assume that a garage, unlocked cars, currencies, race progress, settings, or purchases made on a PlayStation or Switch copy will appear on a phone, PC, or Xbox copy. The official documentation reviewed does not provide a complete, current transfer matrix for every account and storefront combination. If moving devices matters to you, verify the current rules with Gameloft Support before starting a new platform.
Likewise, signing into Gameloft ID is not the same thing as universal save synchronization. It is described as a unified login, while the documented cross-save exclusions still apply.
Modes that work well for friend groups
Private-room races
Private rooms are designed for direct friend play. The host can choose a track, car class, racing mode, lap count, and additional parameters before sending invitations. This is useful when everyone wants the same rules rather than a randomly selected public event.

Team Pursuit
Team Pursuit provides a cooperative-versus-competitive alternative to a standard race. Gameloft describes a five-versus-three format: five Syndicate drivers try to escape while three Security pursuers attempt takedowns. Because the mode divides players into roles, it can be a better choice for a mixed group that wants to cooperate as well as compete.
Public multiplayer
Public events are suitable when you want a quick race without arranging a lobby. Matchmaking can combine players from different platforms, but it is not a substitute for a private invitation when you need a particular friend in the same session.

Cross-play connects the multiplayer session; it does not make the controls identical. Mobile players generally use touch input, PC players can use keyboard and mouse or a controller, and console and Switch players use gamepads. Familiarity with one control method can therefore be an advantage even though the race is shared.

Xbox Wire reported that the Unite update improved controller-oriented navigation and the user interface for console players. That change concerns menu and controller usability, not a separate multiplayer network. A console player and a phone player can still meet in the same race while seeing different interface layouts.
Display resolution, frame-rate options, loading time, battery life, and graphics settings also vary by hardware. The official material does not establish a universal performance target across all devices, so a cross-play session should be judged by connection stability rather than by expecting identical visuals.
Accounts, subscriptions, and regional availability
The official sources confirm the cross-play feature but do not publish a complete, current matrix of platform subscription requirements, regional restrictions, or every account-linking step. Console online-service policies and store requirements can change independently of the game. Before inviting friends, check:
- Whether the game is currently listed and downloadable in each player’s country.
- Whether the console account needs an active online-multiplayer entitlement for the selected mode.
- Whether the PC, mobile, or console account is correctly connected to the intended Gameloft account.
- Whether all players have installed the same current game update.
- Whether maintenance, parental controls, NAT restrictions, or local network policies are blocking online play.
These checks are especially important when one player has just moved from a mobile version to a console version. A successful login proves that the account is recognized; it does not by itself prove that progression will transfer.
Troubleshooting when cross-play does not work
The friend cannot be found
- Confirm that both players are using the current version of the game.
- Verify spelling and account identity in the in-game friend or invite interface.
- Close and restart the game after accepting a new friend connection or changing account settings.
- Check whether one player is offline, appearing invisible, or restricted by platform privacy controls.
The invitation fails or the room does not appear
- Have the host leave and recreate the private room.
- Check each player’s internet connection and restart the affected device or router if the connection is unstable.
- Look for an active game-service or platform-network outage.
- Try public matchmaking. If public races work but the invitation does not, the problem is more likely the friend, privacy, account, or room state than basic cross-play support.
Progress is missing on a second device
First identify the platform. If the missing progress belongs to PS4, PS5, or Nintendo Switch, Gameloft’s documented cross-save exclusion may explain the result. If the platform is eligible, confirm that the same intended account was used and contact Gameloft Support rather than creating additional accounts that could complicate the record.
One player has different controls or feels disadvantaged
That is usually an input difference, not a cross-play failure. Let the PC or mobile player select a preferred controller where supported, and use a private room to agree on the car class and race settings. The game’s cross-platform feature does not equalize touch, keyboard, mouse, and controller ergonomics.
