For the lowest-risk approach, keep modded files and saves in an offline setup. Before connecting to normal multiplayer, restore an unmodified installation and an unmodified save, then launch the game normally with Easy Anti-Cheat active. That is conservative risk management, not an official safe-harbor guarantee: FromSoftware has not published a whitelist for cosmetic, balance, movement, co-op, or save-editing mods.

What the official rules say
FromSoftware’s Terms of Service use broad language
The Terms of Service prohibit “alterations to the Game’s program, game data and/or save data.” They also prohibit reverse engineering and playing in a manner not intended by the company. The wording does not limit the prohibition to cheats, ranked matches, or modifications that affect another player. A cosmetic replacement, a balance change, a movement tweak, a co-op expansion, and an edited save all fall within the kinds of files or data the rule addresses.

FromSoftware or a service provider may issue a warning, delete recorded data, suspend use of the Services, or cease providing Services access. “Ban” is therefore a useful everyday description of the risk, but the published remedies are broader than a single permanent-ban mechanism. The documents do not promise a warning before a suspension, and they do not publish a standard duration for any restriction.

The Steam-hosted EULA repeats the restrictions
The Armored Core VI EULA presented through Steam repeats the prohibitions on altering the game and using it in an unintended way. It also repeats the available remedies: warnings, deletion of recorded data, suspension, or cessation of Services. Reading the game through Steam does not create a separate modding exception.
Version 1.05 added a dated warning
Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s 2024 Version 1.05 patch notes specifically state: “illegal violations of the terms of use, such as alterations, falsifications, etc. made to the game’s programming or character data, will be met with a warning/penalty.” The notes also say that the update is required for online play. That warning expressly mentions both programming and character data, so it is not limited to a visible cheat in a competitive match.
Why Easy Anti-Cheat changes the calculation
The PC version lists Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) as part of its online environment. FromSoftware’s Terms say that EAC loads with the game and may analyze game binaries and scan hardware memory for cheat detection. Those statements do not reveal a detection threshold or guarantee that every alteration will be found, but they do show that modified binaries and the computer’s running state are relevant to the online security system.
Do not interpret “client-side” as “approved.” A mod that changes only your interface, textures, audio, camera, or local effects may seem harmless, yet the Terms publish no cosmetic exemption. A loader that changes files before launch can also alter the binaries EAC is described as analyzing. The absence of a published ban statistic is not evidence of safety: the authoritative documents reviewed provide no percentage of mod users banned, probability of detection, or average penalty duration.

Risk by setup: a practical comparison
The table below uses risk-management axes drawn from the published rules. These are not publisher-certified categories or guarantees.

A separate executable or save set can reduce accidental crossover between environments, but that separation is an inference for managing mistakes. It is not a certification from FromSoftware or Bandai Namco that the arrangement is safe online.
Which kinds of mods are covered?
Cosmetic and accessibility changes
Texture swaps, model replacements, visual effects, audio changes, HUD edits, and similar modifications may not alter another player’s statistics. Nevertheless, the Terms refer to alterations to the program, game data, and save data rather than only competitive advantages. Because no official cosmetic whitelist exists, you cannot rely on a “visual-only” label as permission to connect.

Mods that change damage, armor, hitboxes, movement, enemy behavior, weapons, missions, or cooperative features create an even clearer conflict with the requirement to use the game as intended. They can also affect what the game sends to or receives from other players. The documents do not distinguish between a private lobby and public matchmaking for purposes of authorizing altered files.

Save editors and character-data changes
Editing parts, currency, progression, statistics, unlocks, or other character information is specifically risky. FromSoftware’s Terms include save data, and the Version 1.05 warning names falsifications to character data. Restoring the executable while keeping an edited character save does not remove that concern.
How to use mods with the least online risk
The following workflow is a conservative interpretation of the rules, not an official guarantee.
- Create a clean baseline. With the game closed, preserve an unmodified installation and an unmodified save. Keep copies outside the folders used by your mod setup so that a loader cannot silently overwrite them.
- Separate the environments. Use a clearly separate offline executable, profile, or save set for mod testing when the tool supports it. Label the modded and vanilla locations so you can identify which one is active before every launch.
- Keep the modded environment offline. Do not connect that installation to the game’s standard online Services. If a mod loader instructs you to disable or bypass EAC, treat that as an offline-only condition; never use that state for normal multiplayer.
- Test only in offline play. Stay with local missions, training, or other activities that do not sign in to standard Services. Avoid entering a multiplayer menu just to see whether a mod appears to work.
- Record what you changed. Keep a simple list of replaced files, loaders, plugins, and save edits. This makes a complete rollback possible instead of relying on memory.
How to return to online play
Removing a visible mod is not enough if a loader, altered save, or modified binary remains. Before reconnecting, use this checklist:
- Exit the modded environment completely. Close the game and any mod manager or injector that may keep altered files loaded.
- Restore every changed file. Remove loaders and plugins, restore original archives and executables, and check that the normal game directory contains no leftover replacement files.
- Restore an unmodified save. Do not take a character created or edited in the modded environment into online play. Use the separate vanilla save you preserved before experimenting.
- Verify the installation through Steam. In the Steam Library, open Armored Core VI’s Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. This can replace files that were changed locally; it does not certify that a save or every external loader has been removed.
- Launch through the normal game path. Start the unmodified installation normally and allow EAC to load as it does for ordinary online play. Do not use a special mod executable, launch argument, injector, or EAC bypass.
- Check the environment before signing in. Confirm that the vanilla profile and save are selected and that no mod manager is active. If you cannot establish that the installation and save are clean, remain offline until you can restore them.
This process reduces accidental use of altered data. It cannot undo a warning or restriction that has already been issued, and no publisher document promises that a rollback guarantees access.

What happens if the game warns or blocks you?
Do not keep retrying with the same files. Exit the game, remove the alterations, restore the vanilla installation and save, and document the message, date, and steps that preceded it. Then use the official support channels for the game or platform. The published materials do not specify a guaranteed appeal result, a universal appeal process, or a fixed ban duration, so avoid claims that a particular workaround will automatically clear the restriction.
A warning is not proof that every mod user receives the same outcome, just as the absence of a warning is not proof that a mod is authorized. Enforcement can involve recorded-data deletion, suspension, or loss of Services access under the Terms.
Answers to common AC6 mod questions
Can I use a mod in a private PvP lobby?
The rules do not publish a private-lobby exception. If the game is connected to standard Services with altered program, game, or save data, the same terms apply.
Is a cosmetic mod safe if it cannot affect opponents?
No official source reviewed here says that cosmetic mods are exempt. The broad alteration language means you should keep such mods offline unless FromSoftware publishes a specific allowance.
Do I need to disable EAC for mods?
Some offline mod tools may have their own requirements, but the key rule is operational: never disable, bypass, or alter EAC and then connect that environment to standard online play. EAC is part of the PC online setup and is described as inspecting binaries and memory for cheat detection.
Can I go online after deleting the mod folder?
Only after restoring all altered files, removing loaders, and switching to an unmodified save. Verify the installation and launch normally; deleting one folder alone does not establish that the program and character data are vanilla.
Will FromSoftware definitely ban me?
No one can make that prediction from the published documents. They establish prohibited conduct and a range of possible penalties, but they do not publish detection rates, a percentage of mod users banned, or an average ban length.

Bottom line
There is no publisher-backed way to play Armored Core VI online with mods and know that you are protected from enforcement. The safest division is simple: modded files and saves stay offline; standard online play uses an entirely vanilla installation and save with EAC running through the normal launch path.
