Yes. Apple says Apple Arcade games can be played online or offline, but you must download a game while it is available and keep an active subscription. If a game leaves Apple Arcade, a downloaded copy remains playable for at least two weeks after it leaves; that is a grace period, not permanent access.
How offline play works
Apple describes its catalog as games you can play “online or offline.” Download the game to your supported device while it is available, then open it before relying on it without an internet connection. Apple’s guidance does not guarantee that every game feature works offline: online multiplayer, cloud features, or a title-specific setup may still need connectivity. Check the game’s own requirements if a particular feature matters. Device compatibility and service availability also vary by region. An active subscription is still required
Offline play does not turn a downloaded game into a permanent or independently owned copy. Apple says that if you are not an Apple Arcade subscriber, you cannot play Arcade games even when they are already downloaded to your device. That applies to downloaded titles generally, not just games that have left the catalog. Cancellation and a game’s removal from Arcade are different: cancellation blocks access to Arcade games while you are unsubscribed; removal affects one title and has a stated grace period for downloads.
What happens when a game leaves Apple Arcade?
Apple says a game downloaded before it leaves Arcade can be played for at least two weeks after it leaves. Apple does not describe that as permanent access. After a game becomes unplayable, launching it can show a “No Longer Available” message. The grace period concerns a downloaded game; download a title while it is still in the catalog rather than assuming you can install it later. Could the game return as a regular App Store app?
Sometimes a developer may offer a separate version in the App Store after a game leaves Arcade, but neither its availability nor its contents are assured. Apple notes that the standalone release may differ from the Arcade edition. Check the App Store listing for that specific release before expecting the same features or content.
Will your save carry over?
Only if the developer supports loading the Arcade game save in the separate release. The existence of an App Store version alone does not establish that progress transfers, so check the developer’s information for that game.

What happens to progress if you cancel?
Apple says you can resubscribe and access your gameplay progress, but warns that some game saves may no longer be supported if too much time passes. That is separate from a game leaving the catalog: canceling affects access to Arcade games generally, while a departure affects a particular title and its downloaded copy’s post-departure window. For supported games, iCloud and Game Center can sync progress, high scores, and saves across devices; this depends on the game’s support and does not remove subscription requirements.

Practical checklist before going offline or a game leaves
- While subscribed and online, download the game to the device you plan to use.
- Open it before disconnecting. This confirms that the installed game launches, though it does not prove every feature works offline.
- If it is leaving Arcade, treat Apple’s “at least two weeks” as a limited grace period, not a deadline guarantee for permanent access.
- If a standalone App Store edition appears, check its listing and the developer’s save-transfer information before relying on continuity.
