The rule applies only to qualifying games and digital purchases; it does not make every Xbox game available on PC. Check the badge on the exact game’s store listing before counting on shared access.
What Xbox Play Anywhere includes
Xbox Play Anywhere is a per-game digital entitlement. For a qualifying title, one digital purchase lets you play on an Xbox console and a Windows 10/11 PC at no additional cost. Xbox also lists supported gaming handhelds as eligible devices. See Xbox’s Play Anywhere page for the current program details and participating games.

The feature does not apply automatically to every Xbox purchase. In particular, owning a game on disc does not establish the Play Anywhere PC entitlement. Xbox says the feature covers qualifying digital purchases through its stores and digital codes from participating retailers.
How to check whether your game qualifies
- Open the current Xbox Store or Windows Store listing for the exact game and edition. Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge, or check Xbox’s participating-games list.
- Confirm that your copy is digital. A physical disc by itself does not provide the shared PC entitlement.
- On your PC, sign in to the Xbox app with the Microsoft account associated with the purchase. Check the library for the game and its PC version.
- Before installing, review the game’s own PC system requirements. Eligibility for Play Anywhere does not guarantee that a particular computer can run the game.
If the badge is absent, the PC version is not listed, or the game does not appear in the account’s library, the general Play Anywhere rule alone cannot confirm that your copy qualifies. Check the listing and the account used for the purchase.

What carries over between Xbox and PC
For supported Play Anywhere games, Xbox says game saves and progress, eligible add-ons, and achievements are available across supported devices. Achievements and Gamerscore are shared rather than awarded a second time for playing on another platform. The exact title must support Play Anywhere for these shared features to apply.
Where to install and what the PC requires
Xbox directs PC players to the Xbox app. Xbox’s PC page lists Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher as the app requirement. A game may require more than that, so check its individual system requirements too. You can use a compatible controller or, where the game supports it, keyboard and mouse; a controller is not required to claim the entitlement.

Can you play on Xbox and PC at the same time?
No. Xbox says the same Play Anywhere game can be signed in on one Xbox console or one Windows 10/11 PC or supported handheld at a time. Shared ownership does not mean that one copy can run simultaneously on both devices.
If you do not own a qualifying digital copy
Game Pass and cloud gaming are separate access routes, not substitutes for owning a Play Anywhere purchase. Whether a specific game is included in a subscription catalog or can be streamed depends on its availability and the applicable terms; Xbox notes that some cloud-playable games require a Game Pass subscription. Check the current details on Xbox’s PC page rather than assuming a particular title is included.
