Can You Play a Sound on Your Phone from Phone Link in Windows 11?

Microsoft’s Phone Link documentation does not confirm a command to make a connected phone play a sound or ring remotely. It does say that audio from Android apps and videos continues to play on the phone while you use Phone Link, including during phone-screen mirroring. So if you mean “make my phone ring from my PC,” the feature is not established by the documented guidance; if you mean “where does app audio play?”, it stays on the phone.

Can Phone Link make your phone play a sound?

Microsoft’s Phone Link app troubleshooting guidance and phone-screen troubleshooting guidance describe audio behavior and connection issues, but neither documents a Phone Link command for remotely making the phone ring or play a locating sound. Based on those pages, you should not expect to find a documented “play sound” action in Phone Link on Windows 11.

This is a limit of what those support pages establish, not proof that no other Microsoft or Android feature can locate a phone. The article here addresses the specific Phone Link action; it does not treat a separate locator service as part of Phone Link.

Why does audio still come from the phone?

When you use Phone Link to access Android apps or videos, Microsoft says their sound continues to play through the Android device. The same applies to phone-screen mirroring: mirroring the display does not mean the audio is routed to the PC. This is expected behavior described in Microsoft’s app troubleshooting and phone-screen troubleshooting instructions.

What to check if Phone Link will not connect

These checks address Phone Link connectivity; they do not add a remote ring or play-sound command.

  1. Check the connection. Make sure both the Windows PC and Android phone are turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Check the phone’s connection settings. Confirm Airplane mode is off and, for troubleshooting, turn Battery Saver off.
  3. Confirm account sign-in. Check that Phone Link and the PC are using the same Microsoft account.
  4. Review Android battery optimization if the link is intermittent. Microsoft recommends checking whether battery optimization is restricting Link to Windows. The exact settings route varies by Android version and phone manufacturer, so use the device’s own settings labels rather than assuming one universal menu path.
  5. Look for network restrictions. VPNs, firewalls, and public or work Wi-Fi policies can prevent devices from communicating. Different Wi-Fi networks can also interfere with the connection.

Microsoft’s Phone Link app troubleshooting and phone-screen troubleshooting pages provide further connection guidance.
