No. You can’t pair an Apple Watch directly with a Samsung Android phone for setup or normal companion-phone use. Apple requires an iPhone to set up an Apple Watch, and the iPhone model and iOS version required depend on the watch generation. If you plan to keep using a Samsung phone, choose a smartwatch whose exact model supports it instead.
Why an Apple Watch won’t pair with a Samsung phone
Apple states, “To use your Apple Watch, you need to pair it with your iPhone.” A Samsung Galaxy phone runs Android, so it cannot serve as the iPhone companion required for Apple Watch setup. Bluetooth connection alone does not bypass that requirement.

This applies to pairing the watch for setup and companion-phone use; buying an accessory or changing a phone setting does not make a Samsung Android phone a supported setup device.

You need a compatible iPhone. The minimum iPhone model and operating-system version are not the same for every Apple Watch generation, so check Apple’s compatibility information for the specific watch before you plan to borrow or buy an iPhone: Apple Watch compatibility.

Apple’s setup instructions also call for an updated iPhone, Bluetooth turned on, Wi-Fi or a mobile network connection, and the unlocked iPhone kept near the watch while you follow the setup assistant: Set up your Apple Watch.
Can a Galaxy Watch pair with an iPhone instead?
Compatibility works differently across Samsung watch generations. Samsung says Galaxy Watch4 and later generations, which use Wear OS, do not support iOS. Select earlier Galaxy Watch models may support an iPhone, subject to the exact model and operating-system requirements. Samsung’s compatibility information cautions that support varies by model: Samsung Galaxy Watch compatibility.

Which smartwatch should you choose if you’re keeping a Samsung phone?
Start with the exact watch model’s phone and operating-system requirements, then confirm that its setup process and features meet your needs. A compatible Galaxy Watch may be an option, but support depends on its generation and the phone. It is an alternative watch—not a way to make an Apple Watch work with a Samsung Android phone.
