Short answer: Morpheus documents native monitoring for HVM clusters and hosts, and VM Essentials documents a Monitoring area in its permissions and interface. Grafana can query Prometheus-compatible data sources. But the available documentation does not confirm that Morpheus Enterprise or VM Essentials exposes a Prometheus-scrapable endpoint or supports a direct Grafana connection. Treat that integration as unverified until HPE documents it for your release or confirms a supported method.
What Morpheus and VM Essentials document
HPE describes VM Essentials as a KVM-based HVM cluster virtualization solution that also integrates with VMware vCenter. Its VM Essentials v8.1.0 getting started documentation outlines that platform context. Separately, Morpheus HVM documentation describes monitoring for clusters and individual hosts, alongside other cluster capabilities: HVM cluster documentation.

VM Essentials permissions documentation also lists a Monitoring area, including status, apps, checks, groups, incidents, contacts, and alert rules: VM Essentials v8.1.0 permissions documentation. That establishes the presence of a Monitoring UI and related permissions; it does not establish that all Morpheus workload-monitoring features are included in VM Essentials.

A staging Morpheus feature matrix places Workload Monitoring/Logging in Advanced and Enterprise tiers and marks it unavailable in VM Essentials: Morpheus feature matrix. Because this matrix is staging documentation, confirm the entitlement against the published documentation, exact release, and contract that apply to your deployment. Do not infer workload monitoring or logging entitlement merely from the existence of VM Essentials Monitoring permissions.

What Grafana can do with Prometheus
Grafana’s Prometheus data source is preinstalled, supports PromQL, and provides features including metrics, alerting, annotations, recording rules, and exemplars. Grafana also says the data source can work with other projects that implement the Prometheus query API. See Grafana’s Prometheus data source documentation.
These are capabilities on the Grafana side. They do not show that Morpheus has an exporter, implements a compatible query API, or exposes metrics in a format Prometheus can scrape. HPE QuickSpecs mention Prometheus and Grafana among open-source container components, but that reference is not documentation of a direct Morpheus metrics integration: HPE QuickSpecs.

What remains unverified about a direct integration
The reviewed product material does not establish a supported Prometheus scrape endpoint for Morpheus Enterprise or VM Essentials, nor does it provide a direct Morpheus-to-Grafana setup procedure. Without release-specific HPE documentation or a supported vendor answer, there is no substantiated endpoint, configuration path, or authentication procedure to give. Do not assume that enabling a Monitoring permission, installing Grafana’s Prometheus data source, or finding Prometheus and Grafana components in product specifications completes the connection.
Checks to make before choosing an architecture
Before planning dashboards or alerts, get clarity on the exact data and integration path your deployment supports. Ask your HPE administrator or support contact to confirm:

- Product and entitlement: Is the target Morpheus Enterprise or VM Essentials, which release is installed, and which monitoring features does your contract include?
- Metric scope: Do you need HVM cluster and host health, guest or workload metrics, or both? Native platform monitoring and guest-level telemetry are not interchangeable.
- Supported export path: Does that release document a Prometheus scrape endpoint, another metrics API, an exporter, or a supported integration? Request the relevant release-specific instructions.
- Data direction and access: Is the supported path based on Prometheus scraping, remote write, or another mechanism? Confirm authentication, network reachability, and required permissions rather than assuming defaults.
- Operations ownership: Decide where dashboards, retention, access control, and alert rules will live, and which system is authoritative for each alert.
Only after confirming a supported source and connection path can you decide whether your existing Prometheus and Grafana stack can consume the needed Morpheus metrics. Grafana’s documented compatibility with Prometheus-query APIs is useful, but it cannot substitute for a documented Morpheus data source.
