It may be physically possible, but you should not assume two brands are compatible. OC1 warns that different sealants may react unpredictably and recommends removing the old product before filling with fresh sealant. No compatibility chart or controlled test for the product pairings discussed here establishes which brands can safely be combined.
Why mixing sealant brands is uncertain
There is no universal compatibility guarantee for bicycle tubeless sealants. Formulas vary, and manufacturer cautions support a conservative approach—not the claim that every cross-brand mixture will fail. The European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation (ETRTO) also says compatibility with tire material cannot be guaranteed for sealants not approved by tire manufacturers. Its recommendations, Edition 2 (September 2024), advise consumers to follow the sealant maker’s instructions when choosing such products.

Ingredient labels alone cannot predict how two products will behave together. For example, Schwalbe describes DOC BLUE as natural latex stabilized with ammonia; OC1 describes its sealant as ammonia-free synthetic latex; Pirelli lists ammonia and latex in P ZERO, while describing Cinturato as latex-free and protein-free. These descriptions show that products differ, but do not establish a rule for predicting cross-brand reactions.

OC1’s product guidance puts the practical caution plainly: “Although technically possible, we don’t recommend mixing different sealant brands as they may react unpredictably with each other.” It recommends removing the old sealant before refilling with fresh product. That is a prudent changeover recommendation, not proof that every mixture causes clumping, damage, or a loss of sealing.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s first tubeless sealant and the first choice of riders today
- Recommended for all-around use, compatible with all tubeless road, gravel, and mountain bike tires
- Seals punctures up to 6.5mm (¼”)
- Compatible with valve installation using Stan’s Tubeless Sealant Injector
- Remains liquid inside tires for 2-7 months for long-lasting protection)
How to switch to a different sealant
- Identify the sealant already in the tire. Check its maker’s care and mixing instructions if you know the product. If you cannot identify it, avoid assuming a new brand will be compatible.
- Check the tire and wheel instructions. Look for restrictions on sealant ingredients, tire materials, rim materials, and warranty conditions. ETRTO warns that compatibility with tire material is not guaranteed for unapproved products.
- Remove the old product before changing brands. OC1 recommends a clean changeover rather than topping up with another brand. Follow the removal and installation instructions for your tire, wheel, and chosen sealant.
- Prepare the fresh sealant as directed. Shake it when the manufacturer instructs you to. Continental says particles can settle, leaving mainly carrier liquid in the tire and reducing sealing performance; Schwalbe also lists insufficient shaking as a cause of poor airtightness.
- Use the product’s own inflation guidance. Do not assume one brand’s advice about CO2 applies to another. Check the relevant instructions before using a cartridge.
What manufacturer examples do—and do not—tell you
Product details are useful for understanding why a generic compatibility assumption is risky. They do not establish pairwise compatibility, and they are not a substitute for the instructions for your exact tire and wheel.
| Product or guidance | Documented detail | What it means for mixing |
|---|---|---|
| Schwalbe DOC BLUE | Schwalbe describes it as natural latex stabilized with ammonia. Its stated active period is around 2,000 km or 2–7 months, varying substantially with ambient temperature. | These are DOC BLUE composition and maintenance details, not a compatibility result or a universal replacement interval. |
| OC1 sealant | OC1 describes its formula as ammonia-free synthetic latex and advises against mixing brands. | OC1 recommends removing old sealant and filling with fresh product; it does not provide a cross-brand compatibility chart. |
| Pirelli P ZERO | Pirelli describes it as intended for road tubeless-ready tires and lists ammonia, latex, and micro sealing particles. | The ingredient and intended-use description does not establish compatibility with another sealant. |
| Pirelli Cinturato | Pirelli describes it as latex-free and protein-free. Its product page says CO2 is for emergency field repair only; CO2 speeds coagulation, so the sealant must then be replaced. | This CO2 instruction is specific to Cinturato and should not be generalized to other products. |
| Continental RevoSealant | Continental describes carrier liquid and particles of different sizes, recommends thorough shaking, and advises against CO2 because it can impair the sealant’s effect. | These are RevoSealant handling instructions, not a rule for every brand. |
Check wheel-specific and product-specific restrictions
Sealant choice can matter beyond the tire. ENVE’s tubeless recommendations flag a specific concern: it advises against ammonia-containing sealant in the stated circumstance where sealant can migrate beneath rim tape and contact brass spoke nipples. Treat that as ENVE’s wheel-specific caution, not a universal claim about every wheel or every ammonia-containing formula. Check the wheel maker’s own recommendations for your setup.

- Long-lasting latex formula provides superior durability, staying effective for 2-3 times longer than standard sealants to minimize maintenance and downtime. 60-120 days between top-offs.
- Contains advanced nanite particles engineered to rapidly seal punctures up to 1/4" and slices up to 1/2", ensuring reliable performance across a variety of trail and road conditions.
- Developed with eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients, this sealant offers an environmentally conscious choice without sacrificing sealing performance or safety.
- Optimized for performance in varying temperatures and riding environments, making it an ideal choice for endurance cycling, mountain biking, and gravel adventures.
- Compatible with all major tubeless-ready and UST tire brands and engineered to work across a wide range of rubber compounds. Orange Seal adheres to the tire casing seal punctures to effectively without causing delamination, breakdown, or damage to the rubber, maintaining the integrity and performance of the tire over time.
CO2 advice also varies by product. Continental advises against CO2 with RevoSealant; Pirelli lists P ZERO as CO2 compatible; Pirelli’s Cinturato page limits CO2 to emergency field repair and says the sealant must be replaced afterwards. Schwalbe also provides product-specific CO2 guidance. Follow the instructions for the exact sealant in your tire rather than applying another brand’s rule.
If you have already added a different brand
The available manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal emergency response or say that every mixture must be discarded immediately. Check the instructions from both sealant makers and monitor the tire for pressure loss or unreliable sealing. If the tire does not reliably seal damage, Continental recommends replacing the tire; follow the relevant manufacturer’s guidance for the sealant and tire in your setup.
