Yes, you can livestream your own gameplay on YouTube around the clock, but owning the footage does not guarantee monetization or protect your channel from a reused-content decision. YouTube says gameplay shown for extended periods may not be accepted for monetization. What matters includes the originality and value of the content, how clearly your contribution is apparent, and whether the game publisher grants commercial-use rights. YouTube’s published guidance does not set a special 24/7 threshold or prohibition.
What YouTube’s reused-content policy means for gameplay
YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to live streams as well as other videos. Its reused-content policy concerns repurposing content already on YouTube or elsewhere online without significant original commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value. The assessment applies to the channel as a whole, not just one stream.

Reviewers may consider the channel’s overall theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the videos accounting for the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. They may look for evidence that you made or meaningfully contributed to the content. Accurate titles, descriptions, and channel information can help explain what you create, but cannot substitute for original content.

Why uninterrupted gameplay can carry monetization risk
YouTube’s game-content guidance warns: “Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.” That warning does not mean every long gameplay stream will be rejected. It does mean that a stream made up mostly of uninterrupted play, with little apparent original contribution or viewer value, can be difficult to distinguish as original, valuable content.
The official guidance does not give a maximum stream duration, define a 24/7 threshold, or categorically prohibit continuous gameplay streams. Treat the schedule as one factor, not a safe harbor: a creator-owned recording is not automatically reused content, but simply owning or recording it is not a guarantee of monetization either. How to make your contribution clearer
Add commentary with a purpose
YouTube identifies step-by-step commentary that is strictly tied to the live action and provides instructional or educational value as a possible basis for monetizing game content. Explain decisions, tactics, mechanics, or techniques as they happen. Commentary that responds to the actual gameplay makes your contribution more legible than a largely silent or generic loop. It can strengthen the case that the stream offers something of your own, but it does not guarantee approval.

Consider what a viewer gets beyond watching the game run: teaching a strategy, explaining a challenge, analyzing decisions, or presenting another clearly original entertainment angle. Avoid making streams interchangeable through repetitive, minimally changed footage. YouTube’s assessment can take the channel’s broader output into account, so one carefully presented stream may not settle how the channel as a whole is viewed.

Describe the content accurately
Use titles and descriptions that tell viewers what the stream is and what you contribute. Make the channel’s purpose clear in its About section. Reviewers may use those details to understand whether the videos are your own original creation and how you contributed.
Reused content, copyright, and game permissions are separate
A reused-content review is not the same as copyright enforcement. Permission to use material—or the absence of a copyright claim—does not by itself establish that your channel meets YouTube’s reused-content requirements. Conversely, a reused-content concern is not simply a finding that you infringed copyright. YouTube explains this distinction in its channel monetization policies.

Game rights are a separate issue too. YouTube says monetization of video game content may depend on commercial-use rights granted by the game’s publisher. Check the current terms for the specific game you stream, including whether they cover livestreaming and monetization. Without the game’s identity and applicable terms, it is not possible to assess those rights.
Monetization still requires channel review
Meeting a policy’s general guidance does not mean a channel is automatically accepted into the YouTube Partner Program or approved for every monetization feature. YouTube says channels must follow monetization policies, are reviewed before acceptance, and are continually reviewed; individual features can have additional eligibility requirements. The result for a particular channel depends on its content and circumstances. Check YouTube Partner Program eligibility and application guidance.
