Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A 24/7 schedule does not make copyrighted music permissible, and YouTube does not state a blanket ban on streams lasting 24 hours. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, however, and may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Rights clearance and uninterrupted playback are separate issues.
What permission do you need?
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions make the provider responsible for having the rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The exact parties depend on the music: a recording and the underlying composition may involve different rights holders.
Do not assume that permission to download a track, listen to it personally, or include it in an ordinary video also covers a YouTube livestream. Check the actual license or get written permission that covers the intended use. In particular, confirm:
- That YouTube live streaming is permitted—not just personal use or recorded video.
- Which countries or territories are covered, and for what period.
- Whether monetization is allowed and whether there are reporting, attribution or other conditions.
- Whether the archived stream or VOD may remain available, since archive use can have different terms from live use.
- Whether the rights owner must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.
These are practical points to verify against the terms you actually have; they are not a guarantee that any particular track is cleared.

What can happen while the stream is live?
YouTube says it scans all live streams for third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may replace the broadcast with a placeholder image and warn the streamer. If the content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright strike can also result in a live stream being terminated. See YouTube’s live-streaming guidance on copyrighted content.
A license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. YouTube advises creators who have a license to ask the content owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a live stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, even when the creator says they have rights or restricts the stream to certain territories.

So, a successful start is not proof that the music is cleared, and clearance is not a promise that YouTube’s automated checks will leave the stream uninterrupted.
Does YouTube prohibit a 24/7 music stream?
The official pages cited here do not state a general ban on streams running for 24 hours or longer. They also do not guarantee that a particular stream can stay live continuously. The platform’s stated limit is 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; that is a concurrency limit, not a duration rule. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings and limits for current platform details.

The decisive question is whether you have the rights for the music and uses involved. Running a track continuously, describing the broadcast as radio, or using it as background music does not itself grant permission.
Which music options are safer?
- Original music: Use it only if you control or have obtained the necessary rights for all relevant parts, including any performers or collaborators.
- Public-domain works: Check both the composition and the specific recording. A public-domain composition does not automatically make a modern recording of it public domain.
- YouTube Audio Library: YouTube identifies its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music; follow the terms stated for each track.
- Third-party licensed music: Read the license for the specific track and verify live use, territory, duration, monetization, archive/VOD use and any allowlisting requirement. A “free” or “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that your intended stream is covered.
YouTube’s copyright-safe music guidance also points creators to original music, public-domain works and the Audio Library, and advises checking third-party license terms. Do not treat Creator Music as a livestream shortcut: YouTube’s Creator Music usage details say tracks licensed or used for revenue sharing are for long-form videos, not livestreams or Shorts.

Before you start: a rights checklist
- Identify the exact recording and composition you plan to play, and determine who controls the relevant rights.
- Read the permission or license and confirm it expressly covers YouTube live streaming in your intended territories and for the planned term.
- Check monetization conditions, attribution or reporting duties, and whether the stream archive may remain available.
- Ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist before you go live.
- Keep written permission and records of any conditions you must follow. If any scope is unclear, get clarification before broadcasting rather than relying on a description label or a successful test stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
