If ANBERNIC stops selling or shipping to the United States, an ANBERNIC handheld you already own should continue running its locally installed firmware and locally stored games. A sales withdrawal changes how new products reach US buyers; it does not, by itself, remotely disable devices already sold.
The practical risk is loss of future support, downloads, repairs, replacement parts, warranty service, or account-dependent features—not an automatic shutdown of the hardware. Those risks differ between a US shipping pause and a complete company closure.

What the 2025 US shipping change actually meant
On April 21, 2025, Gizmodo reported that ANBERNIC would suspend direct shipments from China to US customers because of uncertainty around US tariff policy. The reported notice said, “due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all shipping from China to the United States starting today.” It also said, “We strongly recommend prioritizing products shipped from our U.S. warehouse.”
That was a fulfillment change, not evidence that ANBERNIC had shut down, withdrawn every product, or disabled existing handhelds. It is also historical information, not a statement of the company’s shipping policy today. The official ANBERNIC site checked on October 13, 2026, displayed worldwide shipping and links to support and order information. Policies and inventory can change, so a past shipping pause should not be treated as a permanent rule.

What keeps working on a device you already own
Local firmware and games
A handheld normally boots from firmware stored on its internal storage or a model-supported microSD card. Games, save files, and emulator settings stored locally likewise do not require the manufacturer to keep selling in your country. If the battery, storage, controls, display, and other hardware remain functional, locally installed software can generally continue to run offline.
This is an inference from the reported event being a shipping pause and ANBERNIC’s support documentation for locally installed firmware; it is not a model-by-model guarantee. Firmware layouts, recovery methods, and supported storage differ across the product range.
Features that may depend on outside services
Online functions are a separate question. A feature requiring an account, authentication server, cloud synchronization, online game service, or another third-party server could change if that service disappears. The available documentation does not provide a universal ANBERNIC shutdown policy or a complete map of online dependencies for every model. Do not assume that every network-related feature will either survive forever or fail immediately.

Two very different scenarios

A company can stop serving one country while continuing elsewhere. Even a complete closure would not erase software already stored on your device, although it could make recovery from a failure substantially harder.
What you could lose if support ends
Firmware downloads
ANBERNIC’s firmware-download page lists files for multiple models, but it does not promise indefinite hosting. If your handheld works, record its exact model and hardware revision and save the relevant instructions and firmware while they are available. Do not download firmware for a similar-looking model: an incompatible image can prevent the device from booting.
Repairs and replacement parts
The official store currently states: “Within the 12-month warranty period, we support to provide replacement repair parts for free.” This describes the displayed 12-month warranty period; it is not a guarantee that parts or service will remain available after a business closure. A future owner might have to rely on independent repair technicians, donor devices, or generic components whose compatibility is uncertain.

Customer service and warranty claims
ANBERNIC’s support materials direct owners to model-specific troubleshooting and customer service. If the company or the relevant regional operation disappears, unanswered tickets and unenforceable warranty claims become possible. Keep your order receipt, serial number, purchase date, and correspondence in a safe place, but recognize that documentation cannot create parts or service that no longer exist.

What owners should do now
- Identify the exact hardware. Write down the model name, hardware revision, operating-system version, and storage arrangement. Similar labels can hide different firmware requirements.
- Back up irreplaceable data. Copy save files, BIOS files you are legally entitled to use, configuration files, and personal game data to another computer or storage device. Verify that the copies open before deleting anything from the handheld.
- Preserve recovery information. Save the model-specific firmware location, flashing instructions, button combinations, and troubleshooting pages as offline notes or PDFs. A web page can disappear even while your handheld continues working.
- Check removable-storage support. If your model accepts a microSD card, confirm the supported capacity, file system, card location, and flashing method in that model’s instructions. There is no single ANBERNIC card specification that applies to every handheld.
- Keep a known-good card unchanged. Once a card reliably boots, make a complete image or file backup before experimenting. Label cards clearly so a test image is not mistaken for your working recovery card.
- Maintain the hardware. Avoid deep battery discharge, moisture, excessive heat, and rough connector handling. A sales withdrawal does not cause failure, but ordinary battery and storage wear still can.
- Document purchases. Store invoices, seller details, warranty terms, and shipment records. These help with a valid claim while a seller or manufacturer remains reachable.
When firmware flashing is appropriate—and when it is not
ANBERNIC support pages for screen or display problems and for boot loops on the RG35XX H, RG35XX Plus, and RG35XX 2024 include firmware-flashing instructions. The boot-loop guidance also describes reconnecting the battery and contacting customer service if the problem remains.
Flashing is a recovery procedure, not routine maintenance. Do not flash merely because you are worried about a possible future closure, and do not open the case as a casual first step. Follow the instructions for your exact model, use the specified image and card method, and understand that an interruption or wrong file can worsen the problem. If the display is blank, the device loops, or the battery connection is uncertain, use the named troubleshooting path or seek qualified repair help.

A safer recovery sequence
- Confirm the symptom and exact model before changing software.
- Back up saves and configuration data if the device can still access them.
- Read the model-specific ANBERNIC procedure, including card preparation and button timing.
- Use a compatible, verified card and a firmware image intended for that model and revision.
- Keep the device powered as instructed and do not interrupt the flash.
- Test booting and save data before adding further modifications.
- If the procedure fails, stop repeating random images and contact support or a qualified technician while service is still available.
Buying a new ANBERNIC in the US after a shipping withdrawal
A direct-shipping pause does not necessarily mean no units exist in the country. The 2025 report referred customers to products shipping from a US warehouse and mentioned marketplace routes. That report does not establish current inventory, authorization, return rights, warranty coverage, or the reliability of any particular seller in 2026.
Before buying, check where the unit physically ships from, who handles returns, whether the warranty is honored for US buyers, which hardware revision is being sold, and whether the listing includes the correct accessories. An imported unit may work perfectly yet leave you responsible for international shipping and customs if it needs service.

Offline play and online uncertainty
For offline play, the key question is where the game and emulator files reside. Locally stored content can remain usable without a storefront or manufacturer server, provided the firmware and storage remain intact and the content is legally obtained. Keep separate backups of saves because a card failure can destroy them even when the company is still operating.

For online play or synchronization, identify every dependency: the handheld’s own account system, a game publisher’s server, a cloud-save provider, or a community service. A manufacturer’s sales decision does not reveal whether those services will continue. Treat any service that cannot export data or operate without authentication as a continuity risk.
Common misconceptions
- “No US sales means the device will be remotely bricked.” A shipping decision is not evidence of remote deactivation.
- “A company closure deletes installed games.” Locally stored files are not erased merely because a website or support desk closes.
- “Every model uses the same firmware.” ANBERNIC support materials are model-specific; similar names do not make images interchangeable.
- “Buying a spare card guarantees recovery.” A card helps only when the model supports it and the image, capacity, formatting, and flashing steps are correct.
- “A current warranty promise lasts forever.” The displayed 12-month parts statement describes the stated warranty period, not perpetual service.
Bottom line for owners
Keep using your ANBERNIC normally. A US sales or shipping withdrawal should not stop an already-owned handheld from running its local firmware and offline games. The sensible preparation is preservation: identify the exact model, back up saves, retain compatible recovery files and instructions, and understand which features depend on servers or accounts. If ANBERNIC ever ceased operations entirely, support and parts would be the vulnerable pieces—not the automatic ability of working hardware to execute software already stored on it.
