Yes. The current PS5 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt supports console mods through an in-game Mods menu powered by mod.io. You sign in with a CD PROJEKT RED account, connect it to mod.io, subscribe to a mod marked as available on consoles, restart the game, and verify it under Installed. You do not install PS5 mods through PC download sites, copy files to a USB drive, or use a separate hardware accessory.
What PS5 mod support actually provides
CD PROJEKT RED’s current Remastered release added cross-platform mod support through mod.io integration on consoles. The support page lists PlayStation 5 as a supported platform. The Remastered release launched on September 29, 2026, and includes both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Existing owners receive the Remastered PS5 upgrade without buying a separate mod-enabling edition.

On PS5, the catalog, account connection, subscription process and installation all happen inside the game. A mod’s creator may have published the same project for PC and console, but the console listing is still subject to platform approval, content rules and technical requirements. Therefore, seeing a mod on a PC site does not mean the PS5 version exists.

How to install a mod on PS5
- Launch the current PS5 version. Start The Witcher 3 and wait for the main menu. If you do not see a Mods entry, first confirm that you are running the supported Remastered PS5 installation rather than an older or unsupported build.
- Open Mods. Select Mods from the main menu. The first visit opens the account sign-in flow.
- Sign in to your CD PROJEKT RED account. Use the account you want associated with your console saves and mod subscriptions.
- Connect the account to mod.io. Complete the linking prompt. The official support instructions require this connection before console mods can be installed.
- Browse a mod’s details page. Read its description, requirements and compatibility notes rather than subscribing from a search result without checking the details.
- Confirm the console tag. The details page must show Available on consoles. This is the practical test that the publisher has supplied a PS5-compatible version through the console catalog.
- Select Subscribe. The game downloads and registers the mod through mod.io. Subscription is the console installation action; there is no manual file-copy step.
- Restart the game. Close and relaunch The Witcher 3 after subscribing so the game can load the new content.
- Check Installed. Return to Mods, open Installed, and confirm that the mod is listed with its checkbox selected. If it is listed but unchecked, enable it there before loading a save.
Repeat the same process for each additional mod. Install only versions whose details page indicates console availability and whose notes match the current Remastered patch.
Why a PC mod may not appear on PS5
Console support is selective. The official FAQ explains that many mods are cross-platform, but some PC uploads cannot be brought to console. Platform approval, content rules and technical requirements determine what reaches the PS5 catalog. A mod can therefore be genuine, popular and functional on PC while being absent from the PS5 menu.
- No Available on consoles tag: treat the mod as PC-only for PS5 purposes.
- Different technical package: a creator may have to rebuild or adapt the project for console.
- Outdated files: XML, script or w3strings files made before the update may fail until the creator updates them in REDkit.
- Platform rules: console approval can exclude content or implementation methods permitted on PC.
The safest compatibility rule is simple: the console tag must be present, the mod must target the current Remastered version, and its notes must not list a missing dependency. PC compatibility alone is not evidence of PS5 compatibility.

Can you use Nexus Mods or Steam Workshop on PS5?
Nexus Mods and Steam Workshop remain PC-oriented ways to discover or install The Witcher 3 mods. They are not the PS5 installation channel. Console access uses mod.io through the game’s own Mods menu, and the official FAQ says mod.io is required for console mods.
That distinction matters when a creator publishes one project in several places. A page on a PC service may contain files, installation instructions or scripts that the PS5 edition cannot read. Do not download a PC archive and expect to import it into the console game. Look for the corresponding mod.io entry and the Available on consoles label instead.
What PS5 players cannot do
You cannot create a Witcher 3 mod on the console
PS5 is a consumer platform for running approved mods, not a development environment. The official FAQ states that mods must be created on PC with a mod creator such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit. Console script mods specifically must be created with REDkit. A PS5 owner can subscribe to a published console mod, but cannot author, compile or package one from the console.
You cannot assume every PC script works
Script-heavy projects are especially dependent on the game’s current tools and version. XML, script and w3strings files created before the update may not work after the update unless they are updated in REDkit. This is a creator-side compatibility issue; reinstalling the same old package on PS5 will not repair an outdated file.
You cannot keep console trophies on a modded save
On console, Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded save files. This applies to a save marked as modded, regardless of whether the change is a visual tweak, quality-of-life adjustment or major gameplay alteration. Keep an unmodded save for trophy progress if that matters to you.
How modded saves and cross-progression work
When a save has been affected by mods, the game marks it with a mod.io cog icon. That marker warns you that the save depends on a mod configuration and that console Trophies and Achievements are disabled for it.

Cross-progression between PC and PS5 requires the same compatible set of mods on both platforms. If a save depends on a required mod that is missing or incompatible on the target platform, the save may fail to load correctly. Before moving a modded save, compare the enabled list and versions on the source and destination systems. A PC-only mod cannot satisfy a PS5 save’s dependency simply because the title is the same.
| Save situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Unmodded save | Normal trophy and achievement behavior, subject to the game’s standard rules. |
| PS5 save created or used with mods | Marked with a mod.io cog icon; Trophies and Achievements are disabled on console. |
| Modded save moved between PC and PS5 | Load reliability depends on having the same compatible mods enabled on both platforms. |
Use separate save slots for modded and unmodded play. This is a practical way to protect a trophy-focused run while experimenting with the catalog.
Can you play offline after installing a mod?
Yes, an already installed modded save can be used offline when all of its required mods are present on the console. Offline mode does not let you install something new: browsing and downloading new mods require reconnecting to the internet.
If an offline save refuses to load, verify the enabled mod set the next time you are online. A missing subscription, an unchecked mod or an update that changed compatibility can leave the save without a required component. Do not delete a modded save while troubleshooting unless you have a separate copy of any unmodded progress you want to preserve.
Choosing a PS5-compatible mod safely
Use the mod’s details page as a compatibility checklist. Before selecting Subscribe, confirm each of these points:
- The page displays Available on consoles.
- The description identifies support for the current Remastered release or patch.
- Any required dependency is also available on consoles.
- The creator explains whether the project uses scripts, XML or w3strings.
- The stated purpose fits your goal: gameplay change, visual change or quality-of-life improvement.
- You accept that using it on a console save disables Trophies and Achievements.
- If you use cross-progression, the same compatible version is available and enabled on your other platform.
For a first experiment, a single, clearly documented mod makes troubleshooting easier than subscribing to a large collection at once. Add another only after the first appears under Installed and the game starts normally.

The Mods menu is missing
Check that the game is the supported PS5 Remastered installation. The current console feature is part of that release. Also confirm that the game has completed its update and that you are not launching an older incompatible installation.
Sign-in or account linking will not complete
Internet access is required for first-time browsing and installation. Reconnect the console, reopen the Mods menu and complete both stages: CD PROJEKT RED sign-in and mod.io connection. A CD PROJEKT RED account by itself is not enough; the mod.io link is required.
The mod cannot be found
Open the catalog entry from inside the game and check for Available on consoles. If that label is absent, the PC upload has not been approved or packaged for PS5. Searching for the same title on a PC mod site does not change its console status.
Rank #3
The subscription appears but the mod is not active
Restart the game after selecting Subscribe, then open Installed and inspect the checkbox. The documented sequence requires a restart and an enabled checkbox before loading a save.
A save will not load after moving from PC
Compare the source save’s required mods with the PS5 list. Cross-progression needs the same compatible set on both platforms. A missing, PC-only or outdated dependency can prevent correct loading.
An older mod stopped working after an update
Check whether the project contains XML, script or w3strings files created before the update. Those files may need to be updated in REDkit by the creator. Installing the old package again does not make it compatible with the new version.
PS5 console mods versus PC mods
| Question | PS5 | PC |
|---|---|---|
| Where are mods installed? | Inside the game’s Mods menu through mod.io. | PC distribution services such as Nexus Mods or Steam Workshop can be used. |
| Is account linking required? | Yes. A CD PROJEKT RED account must be connected to mod.io. | The installation method depends on the PC service and mod. |
| Can the player create mods? | No. Creation must be done on PC. | Yes, using a mod creator such as REDkit; console script mods require REDkit. |
| Does every PC mod work? | No. Only approved console offerings are available. | PC availability does not require a console package. |
| What happens to console trophies? | Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded saves. | The cited console restriction does not describe PC saves. |
The table describes installation channels, not a promise that a particular mod has identical behavior on both platforms. Always read the version and dependency notes for the exact listing you plan to use.
Release context for PS5 owners
The September 29, 2026 Remastered release notice describes cross-platform mod support through mod.io integration on consoles and includes both major expansions. The earlier PS5 Complete Edition announcement documented a dedicated PS5 release, a later disc version and inclusion of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. These editions establish the supported game installation; the actual mod workflow remains the in-game Mods menu.
If you own an earlier version, use the free upgrade path where available and make sure the PS5 build is fully updated before judging whether mod support is present. The feature is tied to the current supported release, not to a separate accessory or a PC copy.
Should you install mods on your main save?
Install them on a separate playthrough if you care about Trophies, Achievements or a clean cross-progression path. A modded save carries the cog marker and loses console trophy eligibility. A separate unmodded save gives you a stable baseline while you test gameplay, visual or quality-of-life changes.
For cross-progression, plan the mod list before starting. Pick projects with a console tag, verify that the same compatible versions exist on both systems, and keep the enabled lists aligned. This avoids building a save around a PC-only dependency that cannot be reproduced on PS5.
Bottom line
PS5 players can install The Witcher 3 mods, but only through the game’s mod.io-powered Mods menu. Link a CD PROJEKT RED account to mod.io, subscribe only to entries marked Available on consoles, restart, and verify the checked item under Installed. Console mods cannot be created on PS5, PC downloads do not transfer directly, and any modded console save disables Trophies and Achievements. For cross-progression, the same compatible mods must be enabled on both platforms.
