Can You Hide or Filter AI-Generated Songs in YouTube Music? (October 2026)

Not yet, in the ordinary sense of a user-controlled block. As of 15 October 2026, YouTube Music documents labels that identify significant generative-AI use, but the available evidence does not show a generally released setting that removes every AI-generated song from recommendations or playback. TechCrunch reported on 14 October that YouTube was working on a filter, so an option may appear for some accounts or regions before it becomes universal.

For now, the practical control is inspection: open a song’s player page, read its AI label, and tap the label for details. Keep the app current and check settings periodically, because YouTube has not published a launch date, platform list, geographic scope, or exact behavior for the planned filter.

What YouTube Music lets you do today

YouTube Music’s documented feature is disclosure, not automatic exclusion. When YouTube determines that generative AI played a significant role in a track, it places an AI-music label directly on the player page. Selecting that label opens additional information about the AI involvement.

The YouTube Official Blog said on 14 October 2026 that labels were beginning to roll out in YouTube Music and would later expand to the main YouTube app. The announcement explains how listeners can recognize AI participation; it does not describe a released switch labeled “hide AI music,” “block AI songs,” or an equivalent control.

  • Recognition: available labels can identify substantial generative-AI involvement.
  • Inspection: tapping the label provides more context about the track.
  • Blocking: no broadly documented user setting currently guarantees that AI-involved tracks will be removed from recommendations or made unplayable.

A label therefore should be treated as information attached to a song, not as proof that YouTube Music has already filtered that song out of your account.

How YouTube classifies AI involvement

YouTube’s music-partner guidance asks rights holders and distributors to disclose generative-AI use. The partner value can be one of three categories:

Partner declaration Meaning What a listener should infer
Fully Gen AI The partner declares that the track was created fully with generative AI. AI involvement is the primary method identified by the partner.
Partly Gen AI The partner declares that generative AI contributed to part of the track. The song may combine human performance or production with generated vocals, instruments, lyrics, or other elements.
No Gen AI The partner declares that generative AI was not used. This is the partner’s submitted disclosure; it is not a playback-control setting.

If a partner does not provide a value, YouTube says it may use additional signals to determine whether content is fully or partly Gen AI. In a 27 May 2026 announcement, YouTube also described expanded internal signals intended to identify AI-generated content and said systems could apply labels automatically when they detect significant AI use.

That combination explains why labels may not appear uniformly. One track can carry an explicit partner declaration, another can receive a system-generated label, and a third may have no visible label if available information does not meet YouTube’s stated threshold or has not reached that account’s rollout.

How to check whether an individual song uses AI

Use the player page rather than relying only on a playlist title, thumbnail, or recommendation description.

  1. Open YouTube Music and start the track you want to inspect.
  2. Open the full player page for that track.
  3. Look for the AI-music disclosure on the player page.
  4. Tap the disclosure to open YouTube’s additional information about the role of AI.
  5. Use the information to decide whether to continue listening, skip the track, or avoid adding it to a playlist.

The label is designed to identify significant AI participation. It is not described as a complete forensic report of every tool used during production, and the announcement does not promise that every AI-assisted element will be itemized.

Can you turn off AI music in YouTube Music?

There is no generally available, documented “turn off AI music” control in the material YouTube has published for this rollout. In particular, the current disclosure announcement does not establish any of the following:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • a switch that removes fully AI-generated tracks from recommendations;
  • a stricter switch that also removes partly AI-generated tracks;
  • a setting that blocks playback when a song carries an AI label;
  • a universal control shared by Android, iOS, and the web player;
  • a guarantee that one account setting applies identically in every country.

Those omissions matter because “filter” can mean several different things. Hiding a recommendation is weaker than preventing a song from playing when it is opened directly. Excluding only “Fully Gen AI” tracks is narrower than excluding both “Fully Gen AI” and “Partly Gen AI” tracks. YouTube has not published which interpretation, or combination of interpretations, its planned control will use.

What has been reported about a future filter

TechCrunch reported on 14 October 2026 that YouTube Music was working on an option to filter out AI-generated music. The report indicates development, not a completed worldwide launch. The reviewed reporting does not specify a release schedule, eligible accounts, supported platforms, countries, or whether the control would affect recommendations, search, playlists, direct playback, or all of them.

If a control appears on your account, read its exact wording before assuming it blocks every AI-involved track. A useful way to evaluate the option is to check four dimensions:

Question Why it matters Published status
What does it affect? A recommendation-hiding option does not necessarily stop search results or direct playback. Not stated.
Which labels are covered? A control may exclude fully generated tracks while leaving partly generated tracks visible, or cover both. Not stated.
Where does it work? Behavior may differ between Android, iOS, the web player, and the main YouTube app. Not stated.
Who receives it? Feature flags can be limited by account, region, or staged rollout. Not stated.

Do not assume that seeing a new toggle on one device means the same account has the feature everywhere. Staged releases can expose a control to one platform or account first.

Why AI songs can still appear in recommendations

Labels and filters serve different purposes

A disclosure label tells you that YouTube has identified meaningful AI involvement. It does not instruct the recommendation system to suppress the track. Until a separate filtering control is available and enabled, labeled songs can remain eligible for discovery, playlists, radio, or search.

Metadata is supplied by partners

Partner declarations are an important input, but they are not necessarily present on every upload. Missing metadata can delay or prevent a visible declaration until YouTube’s own systems detect enough evidence to apply a label.

“Partly Gen AI” is broader than many listeners expect

A partly generated song may include a human vocalist and conventional instruments while using generative AI for another substantial component. If a future filter distinguishes fully from partly generated tracks, choosing the narrow option could still leave mixed human-and-AI productions in your recommendations.

Rollout timing can differ

The 14 October label announcement describes a rollout that starts in YouTube Music and expands later to the main YouTube app. Your account may therefore show labels, a different label design, or no label yet, depending on rollout status.

What to do if a label is missing or seems inconsistent

A song has no visible AI label

First, confirm that you are viewing the full player page, not only a compact mini-player or notification. If there is still no disclosure, the absence does not prove that no AI tools were used. YouTube may not have received a partner declaration, may not have detected significant use, or may not have enabled the label for that content or account.

The label says “Partly Gen AI”

Interpret it as a disclosure that generative AI contributed to a meaningful portion of the track, not as a claim that every sound was generated. Tap the label for the additional information YouTube provides, then decide whether your own standard excludes any AI contribution or only fully generated songs.

You see different behavior on two devices

Check that both devices run current YouTube Music builds and that you are signed into the same account. Feature rollouts can be account- or platform-specific. The available evidence does not establish a single app version or settings path that forces the label or a future filter to appear.

You want every AI song blocked now

YouTube’s documented controls do not provide a guaranteed account-wide block at this time. The reliable action is to inspect labels before listening and avoid saving or replaying tracks you do not want in your personal library. Do not rely on unrelated third-party “AI detectors” as a YouTube Music control; they cannot change what the service recommends or plays.

How to monitor availability of the filter

  1. Update YouTube Music through your device’s normal app-update mechanism.
  2. Open the app’s current settings and look for newly added playback, recommendation, or content-preference controls. YouTube has not published a definitive menu path for the planned filter.
  3. Check the same account on the platforms you use, because availability may not arrive simultaneously.
  4. Read the control’s description for scope: recommendations only, search and playlists, or playback as well.
  5. Test with clearly labeled tracks before assuming that the setting covers both “Fully Gen AI” and “Partly Gen AI.”

Because rollout details remain unspecified, the absence of a toggle today is not evidence that your account will never receive it; it only means the control is not currently exposed there.

Bottom line for listeners

YouTube Music currently gives listeners a way to recognize significant AI involvement, with labels on the player page and three partner categories: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, and No Gen AI. YouTube can supplement partner disclosures with its own detection signals, but those labels are informational and do not constitute a universal block.

A filter was reported to be in development on 14 October 2026. Until YouTube documents and delivers that control for your account, inspect the player-page disclosure, tap it for context, keep the app updated, and treat any new setting as a feature whose scope must be checked rather than assumed.
