You generally can’t install Google’s Gboard as the native keyboard on a Samsung Smart TV. Samsung TVs use Tizen, while Google’s Gboard setup instructions cover Android phones and tablets; Google documents Gboard as the on-screen keyboard for Android TV, a different platform. For typing in Samsung TV apps, use the TV’s built-in keyboard or a compatible USB or Bluetooth keyboard. To use Gboard on screen, you can consider a separate Android TV device connected over HDMI.
Why Gboard does not install on a Samsung TV
“Google Keyboard” usually means Gboard. Google’s Gboard setup instructions describe installing and configuring it on Android phones and tablets. Samsung’s current TV guidance identifies its smart TVs as running One UI Tizen OS and directs users to install apps through the TV’s Apps interface. Those instructions do not provide a way to add Gboard to the TV’s native Tizen interface.

Google says that “Android TV comes with an on-screen software keyboard named Gboard” in its Android TV keyboard documentation. That refers to Android TV, not Samsung’s Tizen system.
Check the Samsung TV’s Apps interface
Use the TV’s Apps or Search interface to look for the app you want. Available apps and menu names can vary by model, software, and region, as Samsung’s app-installation guidance notes. Samsung Germany’s regional support guidance says that if an app is absent from Apps, it cannot be installed on the TV, including by manually installing it through Google Play. That specific statement is Samsung Germany’s guidance, not a universal policy statement for every market.

Use a USB or Bluetooth keyboard for easier typing
A physical keyboard can make text entry easier in TV fields that support keyboard input, but it does not install Gboard. Samsung documents USB and Bluetooth keyboard connections; the steps and menus vary by model year. For Bluetooth, put the keyboard into pairing mode and add it through the TV’s keyboard-management settings. Samsung’s newer example path is Settings > General > External Device Manager > Keyboard Manager > Add Bluetooth Keyboard. Older model years may use different menus, so follow the instructions for your TV rather than assuming this path applies to every set. See Samsung’s keyboard connection guidance.
For a USB keyboard or a wireless keyboard with a USB receiver, connect it to an available TV USB port and follow any on-screen setup. Before buying, check the full TV model code in its manual: Samsung Australia warns that USB or Bluetooth keyboard support may not be available on some models and advises checking the model’s USB or Bluetooth HID specifications. Use an Android TV device if you specifically want Gboard
A compatible Android TV device connected to the Samsung TV over HDMI can provide a separate Android TV interface, where Google documents Gboard as the on-screen keyboard. Samsung describes connecting external devices such as media players, game consoles, or compatible TV boxes in its external-device connection guidance. This option does not convert the Samsung TV’s Tizen interface into Android TV, and the available keyboard behavior depends on the external device and the app you use. Check that device’s documentation for Gboard support and confirm that you are comfortable switching to its interface.

First check that the remote is working and follow troubleshooting steps for the specific remote and TV model. For relevant Smart Remotes, Samsung US provides reset and re-pairing instructions in its remote troubleshooting guidance. The exact procedure depends on the remote, so use the instructions that match your model.
