Riot says rank boosting violates its Terms of Use, and its published penalties include account suspension and, for repeat offenders, a full League of Legends account ban. The detailed penalty list comes from Riot’s Season 2024 Split 2 notice, so it should not be treated as a guarantee that the same ladder applies unchanged in every later season.
What Riot says about rank boosting
Riot Games Support’s Protecting Your Account, dated June 1, 2026, groups rank boosting with account trading and profile sharing, stating that these activities violate Riot’s Terms of Use. Riot’s support materials also label the subject “MMR / Elo Boosting – Rank Manipulation.”

The policy statement establishes that boosting is prohibited, but it does not define every arrangement Riot may classify as boosting. The available wording is not enough to claim that ordinary coaching, self-play, or every duo-queue pairing is prohibited.
What penalties has Riot published?
In its End of Season 2024 – Split 2 notice, Riot said detected boosted accounts and boosting behavior would result in:
#1 Best Overall
- Designed to inspire, chosen for champions: Take your game to the next level with the proven precision of Logitech G PRO Wireless Gaming Mouse, crafted to inspire League of Legends players
- LIGHTSPEED wireless: Pro grade performance overcomes the traditional limitations of wireless latency, connectivity, and power to deliver super-fast 1 ms report rate connection
- HERO 25K sensor: Delivers peak performance at any sensitivity with zero smoothing, acceleration, or filtering; the computer mouse is optimized to track insane flicks at speeds over 400 IPS
- Ultra-lightweight: The mouse's innovative endoskeleton creates a super-thin yet incredibly strong outer shell, enabling the body to weigh in at a lightweight and maneuverable 2.8 oz (80 g)
- Ergonomic ambidextrous design: Tournament-ready gaming mouse developed with esports pros and gamers for maximum comfort, control and durability
- Immediate account suspension
- Honor-level removal
- Ineligibility for seasonal or split ranked rewards
- A full League of Legends account ban for repeat offenders
The suspension, Honor, and rewards consequences are described in Riot’s Season 2024 Split 2 notice. Its wording identifies a full account ban specifically for repeat offenders; it does not establish that every first detection receives that same ban or that this precise penalty ladder remains unchanged in later seasons.
Who can be affected?
Riot’s published wording covers both “boosted accounts” and “boosting behavior.” That means the risk is not limited to the person who performs the boosting: an account identified as boosted can also face consequences. Riot separately warns that sharing account access carries ban risk and says only the account owner should have access.

Protect your account
Riot recommends securing account access, including verifying the email address and enabling multi-factor authentication. These steps help protect an account, but they do not make boosting or account sharing permissible.

Riot’s Instant Feedback System FAQ says players are responsible for activity on their accounts and links to a separate boosting FAQ. Its general discussion of penalties for disruptive behavior should not be mistaken for the boosting penalty list: the specific boosting consequences cited here come from Riot’s Season 2024 Split 2 notice.
