Usually, no. PlayStation’s standard policy allows a game or add-on to be canceled within 14 days only if downloading or streaming has not started. If your PS5 has begun downloading or streaming the purchase, it is normally non-refundable unless the content is faulty. Your account country and local consumer law can provide additional rights.
The short answer
The 14-day period is not a standalone return window. Two conditions normally have to be true at the same time:

- You request the cancellation within 14 days of purchase.
- The game, add-on, DLC or season pass has not started downloading or streaming.
Once either downloading or streaming has begun, PlayStation generally treats the digital content as ineligible for a refund. This applies even if you downloaded only part of the game, started a stream and then stopped, or changed your mind immediately afterward.

This is why “I am still within 14 days” does not by itself answer the question. PlayStation’s Canadian policy says that games or add-ons started downloading or streaming are not eligible unless they are faulty. The UK policy states the same core rule and notes that additional rights may exist under applicable local law.
If you downloaded the wrong PS5 game
Downloading the wrong title is normally a change-of-mind request, not a fault claim. If the download or streaming has started, the standard policy generally excludes the purchase even when you have not launched the game or have played it only briefly.
If downloading has not started, act before it does. Do not begin the download or streaming while you decide. Open the transaction’s Order details and look for the cancellation option described below. Deleting an installed game later does not change the fact that downloading already began, so uninstalling is not a way around the eligibility condition.

PlayStation’s refund checklist groups full games, downloadable content and season passes under the games/DLC category. The same two standard requirements apply: the content must not have been downloaded or streamed, and the request must be made within 14 days of purchase.

How to request a cancellation when the purchase is eligible
- Open PlayStation Store Order details. Use the store account that made the purchase and open the order or transaction details.
- Select the game transaction. Choose the specific game, DLC item or season pass you want to cancel.
- Choose “Cancel Purchase.” PlayStation displays this option only when the transaction is shown as eligible.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. Complete the prompts and submit the request.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the order information and any confirmation shown after submission until the refund is resolved.
If “Cancel Purchase” is missing, the transaction may fail one of the standard checks: the 14-day period may have elapsed, downloading or streaming may have started, or the item may not be eligible through the automated route. The missing button is not a separate approval decision that you can force by reinstalling or deleting the game.
What to do if the downloaded game is faulty
A fault is the main policy route for a refund after downloading has started. “Faulty” should mean a defect that prevents the content from working as it should, rather than a preference issue such as disliking the gameplay, choosing the wrong edition or finding that the file is larger than expected.
Describe the problem clearly
When you contact PlayStation, explain what fails, when it fails and whether the problem affects launching, loading, access to purchased content or another basic function. Keep the purchase details available so Support can identify the transaction. The policy does not promise that every reported problem will result in a refund; the remedy depends on the defect, the account country and applicable law.

Use Support when the automated option is unavailable
PlayStation’s support guidance directs customers to PlayStation Support or its online assistant when the Order details route does not work. Use that escalation for a downloaded game that is defective, for a transaction that should qualify but lacks “Cancel Purchase,” or when the automated request ends without a clear result.

Do not describe an ordinary change of mind as a technical fault. A precise, honest description gives Support the information needed to assess the claim under the policy that applies to your account.
Country and local-law differences
The standard rule is consistent across the Canadian and UK/Ireland policy pages used for this explanation, but PlayStation publishes country-specific cancellation terms. Your account country is therefore important. A local consumer law may provide rights beyond the standard 14-day, no-download condition, and those rights can affect the remedy for digital content that is defective or otherwise does not conform to the contract.
Do not assume that a rule from another country automatically applies to your account. If you live in a different market, read the cancellation policy presented for that market or ask PlayStation Support which terms govern your purchase. The purchase currency, payment method and store region can also help Support locate the correct transaction, but the applicable legal rights are tied to the relevant account and jurisdiction rather than to the physical location of the console.

PlayStation’s refund FAQ says you may receive a refund in 10 days. That is a processing estimate, not a guarantee that every bank or payment provider will post the credit on exactly the tenth day.

Refunds are sent to the payment method used for the purchase where possible. Purchases made using wallet-fund vouchers are an important exception: the funds may be handled differently because the original payment method cannot receive the money in the usual way. Check the method used for the transaction and allow the stated processing time before escalating a missing payment.
If the refund has not appeared
- Confirm that PlayStation approved the cancellation rather than merely receiving the request.
- Check the original payment method, not only your PlayStation wallet.
- Allow up to 10 days for PlayStation’s processing period.
- If the money is still missing after that period, contact PlayStation Support with the order details and refund confirmation.
Common scenarios
“I bought it yesterday and downloaded it overnight.”
The purchase is within 14 days, but downloading has started. A normal change-of-mind cancellation is therefore usually not available. Contact Support only if the game is faulty or local law gives you an additional right.
“I started streaming, but never downloaded the game.”
Streaming counts as starting consumption under the policy. The same exclusion generally applies as it does after a download.
“The game launches, but a purchased feature does not work.”
That may be a fault affecting downloaded content. Record the symptom and contact PlayStation Support or the online assistant rather than relying on the ordinary cancellation button.
“I am outside the 14-day period, but the game is broken.”
The ordinary cancellation window has passed, but a fault claim can still be relevant. Explain the defect and ask Support to assess the purchase under the policy and law for your account country.
“I have not downloaded anything, but the Cancel Purchase option is absent.”
Check the transaction details and account used for the purchase. If the item should meet the two standard conditions, use PlayStation Support or the online assistant to investigate why the automated route is unavailable.
A practical checklist before contacting Support
- Confirm whether downloading or streaming actually began.
- Check the purchase date against the 14-day window.
- Identify whether the request is a change of mind or a genuine fault.
- Open Order details and note whether “Cancel Purchase” appears.
- Keep the purchase details and a concise description of any defect.
- Know which country is associated with the PlayStation account.
- Check the original payment method and remember the possible 10-day processing period.
Bottom line for a downloaded PS5 game
If your PS5 game has started downloading or streaming, the normal PlayStation Store refund route is usually closed, even when the purchase is less than 14 days old. A faulty game is the significant exception. Start with Order details and “Cancel Purchase” when the transaction is eligible; otherwise, contact PlayStation Support or the online assistant, and consider the additional rights available in your account’s country.
