Yes. Greek chicken soup thickened with egg and lemon—avgolemono—can be frozen if you cool, store, thaw and reheat it safely. Its texture may change after thawing, though: the egg-lemon mixture gives the broth its creamy body, and the available guidance does not directly test frozen-and-thawed avgolemono.
How long can you keep it frozen?
At 0 °F, food kept continuously frozen remains safe indefinitely, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. Its general freezer chart recommends using soups and stews within 2 to 3 months for best quality. That is a quality guideline, not a safety deadline, and it is not based on a specific test of avgolemono.

How to freeze Greek chicken soup safely
- Cool it promptly. For a large batch, divide the soup into small portions and shallow containers before refrigerating, as USDA advises in its leftovers guidance.
- Pack and label. Once cooled, transfer portions to clean, freezer-safe containers, leaving space for expansion. Label each with the date and aim to use the soup within 2 to 3 months for best quality.
- Freeze promptly. Keep the portions frozen at 0 °F. The USDA timeframe is for quality; continuous freezing keeps food safe indefinitely.
How to thaw and reheat it

Do not thaw the soup on the counter. Do not refreeze it if it has been outside refrigeration for more than 2 hours—or more than 1 hour when the temperature is above 90 °F.

Warm the thawed soup gently, stirring as it heats. If it has separated, stirring may help the texture come together, but it may not become as smooth as it was before freezing. A recipe technique attributed by the Associated Press to Milk Street 365 tempers the eggs with hot broth and avoids simmering the finished soup. Use gentle heat when reheating rather than bringing it to a simmer.
