You can try the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s Equalizer and Dolby Atmos controls to change how its speakers sound, but neither is a proven repair for every tinny-sounding phone. Compare the options at the same moderate volume; if distortion persists across apps and settings, ask Samsung for a diagnosis.
Which One UI settings should you try?
Samsung’s user-guide material places the relevant controls at Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects. Look for Equalizer and Dolby Atmos. The menu and available options can vary with software and output mode, so check what appears on your phone.

Compare Equalizer options
Samsung describes Equalizer as a way to choose an audio preset for different music genres or change audio settings manually. Try the available presets, or make a modest manual adjustment if offered. There is no verified preset that is best for every listener or recording.

Compare Dolby Atmos on and off
Play the same clip with Dolby Atmos enabled, then disabled. It may change the perceived presentation, but user reports about whether it improves the Fold 8’s sound are mixed and subjective; they do not establish a reliable fix.

How to tell whether a setting helped
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects and note the current Equalizer and Dolby Atmos settings.
- Choose one familiar audio clip and listen at a moderate, unchanged volume. Compare Equalizer options one at a time, then compare Dolby Atmos on and off.
- Repeat the comparison with another app or audio source. If the problem is confined to one app, check its own audio settings and the source before concluding that the phone’s speaker is faulty.
- If distortion is present, do not use maximum volume as your test level. In its August 18, 2026 review, What Hi-Fi? reported that a little fuzz and distortion could creep in at maximum volume on its review unit. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a standardized test or a claim about every device.
When settings are not enough
Equalizer and Dolby Atmos change audio processing; the available evidence does not show that they repair a damaged or defective speaker. If distortion continues in multiple apps after you compare the settings, use Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 support page for current model documentation and service information, then request a diagnosis.
Want to listen without using the built-in speakers?
Wired headphones are an alternative listening route, not a speaker fix. What Hi-Fi? reported listening through wired headphones using a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter; confirm that your chosen headphones and adapter are compatible with your phone before buying or connecting them. The review documents its own setup, not universal accessory compatibility.
