Sometimes. Some Vivo phones accept a microSD card for removable file storage, while others have no expandable storage at all. Compatibility is determined by the exact model and regional variant—not by the Vivo name alone.
For example, Vivo’s specifications list expandable ROM as “Not supported” for both the Vivo X200 and X200 FE. By contrast, the Vivo V25 product page says, “Micro SD card for external memory support needs to be purchased separately.” Check your phone’s official specification page before buying a card. Vivo’s Extended RAM setting is separate software functionality and does not add physical storage.

What “expand storage” means on a Vivo phone
When people ask about expanding a phone, they usually mean one of two different things:

- More internal storage: additional built-in ROM used by the operating system and apps.
A microSD card is removable external storage. It does not turn a phone that lacks a card slot into a model with more internal ROM. If the specifications for your Vivo phone say expandable ROM is unsupported, inserting a card is not an option because there is no supported expansion path for that model.

Vivo also offers an Extended RAM setting on some phones. That feature uses software and storage-management techniques to supplement working memory, and Vivo says the available amount depends on the phone’s base RAM and software. It is not a memory card, does not create new physical storage capacity, and should not be treated as an upgrade from, for example, 128 GB to 256 GB of ROM.
Compatibility is specific to the model and market
Two Vivo phones released in the same period can have different trays and storage capabilities. Regional variants can also differ. Verify the complete model number and the market in which the phone was sold before purchasing a card.
Find the exact model number
- Open Settings and look for About phone or a similarly named device-information page.
- Record the model name, model number and software version shown there.
- Check the label on the original box or purchase documentation if the settings page is unclear.
- Note the country or region of the handset. A specification page for one market is not proof that every regional variant has the same tray.
Use that information when consulting Vivo’s official specifications, manual or support response. Searching only for “Vivo phone SD card” is not enough to establish compatibility.
Read the official storage specification
Look for wording such as microSD, card slot, external memory support or expandable ROM. A specification that explicitly says expandable ROM is not supported means the phone has no officially supported ROM expansion.

Inspect the physical tray, but do not rely on appearance alone
A tray may contain two SIM positions, one SIM position and a microSD position, or no card position. The shape of a tray is not a substitute for the model’s documentation. If the tray layout is unclear, use the model-specific insertion diagram or support guidance.
Check whether the card shares space with a SIM
On some Vivo designs, the microSD card fits alongside two SIM cards. On others, the card occupies the position that would otherwise hold a second SIM. Vivo France describes both arrangements for supported phones. That means adding storage can require a choice between a second phone line and the card, depending on the model and market.
Confirm the arrangement before you buy a card or alter your SIM setup. A dual-SIM description elsewhere on a retailer’s page may refer to a different regional version than the handset you own.
How to install and use a microSD card when your model supports it
Use the phone’s own manual for the supported card type, capacity and setup screens. The following process is a safe general sequence; menu names and supported behavior can vary by model and software.

- Confirm support first. Verify the exact model’s official specification and determine whether the tray sacrifices a SIM position.
- Back up important files. Keep copies of photos and documents elsewhere before changing cards or moving data.
- Power down if the model’s instructions require it. Follow the model-specific guidance for opening the tray.
- Eject the tray carefully. Use the supplied eject tool in the designated hole, not a microphone opening.
- Place the card in the marked position. Match the card’s contacts and the tray’s outline. Do not force it.
- Reinsert the tray and start the phone. Wait for the operating system to detect the card.
- Verify the card in the file-management tools. Confirm that available external storage appears and test with a non-critical file.
- Use the eject or unmount command before removing it. Vivo’s support guidance describes browsing and ejecting a card on supported phones; removing it while data is being written can cause errors.
Vivo France’s published instructions identify Android 11, so treat that page as regional and model-specific guidance rather than a universal current menu path for every Vivo phone.
What a microSD card can—and cannot—do
Good uses: files and media
Where supported, a card is most straightforward for removable files: camera media, downloaded videos, music, documents and other personal data that the phone’s software allows you to store there. You can browse those files on the phone and remove the card when you need to transfer or replace it.
App installation is not guaranteed
Vivo support pages list the question “Can I install apps on the SD card?” but the available official material does not provide one answer that applies to every model and software version. Android behavior, app requirements and Vivo’s implementation can differ. Do not purchase a card on the assumption that all apps can be installed or moved to it.

Vivo also lists “Can I set SD card as the internal storage?” as a support question. The surfaced information does not establish that every Vivo phone offers this mode. Treat a card as external storage unless your exact model’s current manual explicitly documents another option.

Capacity and speed limits must come from the model’s documentation
The information available here does not establish a universal maximum card capacity or speed class for Vivo phones. Do not apply a capacity or performance recommendation from one model to another. Check the exact phone’s current specification or support answer before purchasing.
If your Vivo phone does not support expandable storage
A card cannot add internal ROM to a phone with no supported slot. Practical alternatives are limited but clear:
- Manage files: Remove unwanted downloads and duplicate media, and move files to another approved location when the phone permits it.
- Back up elsewhere: Keep copies of important photos and documents in another storage destination so the phone does not have to hold every original.
- Choose a larger built-in-storage configuration: When buying a phone, compare the available ROM options rather than assuming a card can be added later.
- Use a model with documented removable-storage support: If a card is essential to your workflow, make that requirement part of the purchase decision and verify it in the official specifications.
Do not assume that a file backup, a cloud copy or a temporary transfer changes the phone’s internal capacity. Those approaches manage data; they do not upgrade the phone’s ROM.

- Have you recorded the complete model number and sales region?
- Does the official specification explicitly mention microSD or expandable ROM?
- Does it say “Not supported”?
- Will the card share the tray with a second SIM?
- Is your goal storing files, installing apps, or using the card as internal storage?
- Does the model’s documentation state a supported card capacity and type?
- Have you confirmed the current software instructions for inserting, browsing and ejecting the card?
If any answer is unknown, pause the purchase and verify it with Vivo’s documentation for the exact handset. A card that works in one Vivo model is not evidence that it will work in another.

Common problems and the safest response
The phone does not detect the card
First confirm that the model officially supports microSD and that the card is seated in the correct tray position. Check whether the tray is intended for a card or a second SIM, then consult the model-specific manual. Avoid treating a failed detection as proof that the phone needs a different speed class or capacity; those limits must come from the official specification.
The second SIM stopped working
On a shared or hybrid tray, occupying the card position can disable the second SIM position by design. Recheck the tray diagram for your regional variant and decide whether you need the second SIM or the card.
You cannot move an app to the card
This behavior is not universally established for Vivo phones. An inability to move one app does not necessarily mean the card is defective. Check the exact model’s software documentation and the app’s own storage requirements instead of assuming that all apps support external installation.

You want to remove the card
Use the phone’s eject or unmount control before opening the tray. Vivo’s support material describes this workflow on supported devices. Keep a backup of important data before physically removing or replacing the card.
Bottom line for specific Vivo models
Storage expansion is possible only when the exact Vivo model and regional variant document microSD support. The X200 and X200 FE specifications say expandable ROM is not supported, while the V25 page explicitly describes separately purchased microSD external-memory support. Extended RAM is a different software feature, not added storage. Verify the model, tray layout, supported card details and intended use before spending money on a card.
