- Create a canvas. Start a new canvas from the app’s home screen, setting the page size before you draw. Changing size later can distort guides and panel divisions.
- Sketch on its own layer. Put rough layout and figure drawing on a layer of its own so you can lower its opacity or hide it once you start inking.
- Ink on a separate layer. Draw clean lines above the sketch. MediBang’s tutorials cover manga draft lines and manuscript guides, which help you keep the drawing within a usable area.
- Divide the page into panels. Use the comic guides and the panel tool to cut the page into frames. Panel splitting is covered in both phone tutorials.
- Add tones and materials. Apply screentones, backgrounds, and other materials to the frames. Keep tones on their own layers so you can adjust them without redrawing line art.
- Letter the page. Use the text tool for dialogue and captions. On iPhone, MediBang’s cloud text tutorial shows that the text tool can draw on cloud fonts, which requires a connection.
- Save the editable project, then export. Keep the MDP file as your master. Export PNG or JPG for sharing, or PSD if you plan to continue in another editor.

Local saving and export
Drawing, layering, paneling, and saving a project all work on the device. The MDP file is MediBang’s native editable format, so keep it as the master copy. PNG and JPG are widely accepted for sharing and printing, but they produce flattened images. Do not count on layers, editable text, or panel settings surviving that conversion. PSD is the listed option when you need to continue in another editor, though you should check how your layers and text open in that program before relying on it.
Cloud sync and account requirements
MediBang’s cloud overview says that cloud features require an account. The Android and iPhone product pages say that cloud features need an internet connection. With cloud enabled, you can access saved artwork and comics across devices, sync brushes and settings, use fonts and materials, and work with comic projects. If you do not want to sign in, save and export your work locally in a format you can open elsewhere, and treat cloud as an optional add-on.

Using a stylus is optional
You do not need a stylus to make a comic in MediBang Paint, and the official tutorials cover drawing with a finger. A stylus gives finer control for inking and lettering. On iPhone, MediBang lists the Adonit Pixel stylus as supported, along with several older stylus products. That list is the vendor’s compatibility claim. It does not establish that the Adonit Pixel is still sold, or that it works with every current iPhone model. Check current availability and compatibility before buying. MediBang’s Android product page does not list stylus support.
Limits to know before you start
- Operating system minimums are stated by MediBang and may change with later app versions.
- The workflow and feature descriptions come from MediBang’s own product pages and tutorials. They have not been independently tested on specific phone models.
- Cloud features need an account and internet access, so plan offline work around local saves.
