Yes. Two supported Beats Pill speakers can be linked in either Amplify mode, where both play the same audio, or Stereo mode, where one speaker handles the left channel and the other handles the right. The current Beats Pill uses a button-based pairing procedure, while Android users can also create and manage the group in the Beats app.
The speakers need to belong to the same supported Pill family. Apple documents the current Beats Pill and Beats Pill+ separately, so do not assume that a current Pill and a Pill+ can form one group. Check the exact model generation before you start.

What two linked Beats Pill speakers can do
Linking two speakers is different from pairing one speaker to a phone. Your phone still provides the audio source, but the speakers create a group between themselves. Once grouped, they can coordinate playback in one of two modes.
| Mode | Speaker behavior | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Amplify | Both speakers play the same audio. | Filling a larger area with consistent sound, such as a room, patio or small gathering. |
| Stereo | One speaker plays the left channel and the other plays the right channel. | Creating a left-right soundstage when the speakers can be placed apart in a listening position. |
Amplify does not mean that the speakers become two independent Bluetooth outputs in your phone’s audio settings. The two Pill units are linked as a speaker group after one of them has connected to the audio source. Stereo likewise depends on the supported Beats grouping feature rather than ordinary Bluetooth pairing alone.

Check compatibility before pairing
Use two speakers from the same Pill family
Apple’s current instructions describe grouping two speakers in the same family. A second matching Beats Pill is therefore the straightforward hardware choice when you want this feature. Identify the name and generation printed on each unit or shown in its device settings before attempting setup.
Do not assume Pill and Pill+ will group
Beats Pill+ has its own documented setup flow, separate from the current Beats Pill instructions. The available Apple guidance does not establish cross-family compatibility between a current Pill and a Pill+. Treat the two product families as separate unless documentation for your exact combination explicitly confirms otherwise.
Have both units powered on
For the current Pill procedure, one speaker must first be connected to your phone or another audio source. The second speaker must also be switched on before the group is created. Keep the speakers close enough for the pairing gesture and indicator lights to be observed easily.

Pair two current Beats Pill speakers with the speaker buttons
These steps apply to the current Beats Pill instructions described by Apple, not automatically to Pill+.
- Connect the first Pill. Turn on one speaker and pair it with your phone, tablet or other audio source in the normal way. Start playback only if you want to confirm that the first connection works; music does not have to be playing for the grouping step.
- Turn on the second Pill. Make sure both speakers remain powered on and are within easy reach of one another.
- Start Amplify pairing. On each speaker, press and hold the center button for five seconds. Continue holding until the light next to each power button turns blue.
- Wait for the group. When the blue indicators appear, the two speakers join in Amplify mode and play the same audio. The phone continues to use the original audio connection while the speakers coordinate the linked playback.
- Test both units. Play a familiar track and check that sound comes from both speakers. If only the original speaker plays, stop and use the troubleshooting checks below rather than repeatedly changing phone Bluetooth settings.
- Change to Stereo if needed. After the Amplify group is established, use the Stereo control described in the next section.
Switch the current Pill group to Stereo
Stereo mode assigns separate channels. Decide which physical speaker should be on the listener’s left before changing the mode. That speaker will be assigned the left channel.
- On the speaker you want to play the left channel, press and hold the center button and volume-up button together.
- Keep holding until the light turns blue, indicating the mode change.
- Play audio and confirm that the left-channel speaker is on your left and the other unit is on your right. If the channels are reversed, use the documented Stereo control on either speaker to switch the assignment, then reposition the units if necessary.
To move back to Amplify, hold the center button and volume-up button on either speaker. Amplify sends the same audio to both units; Stereo separates the left and right channels. Choose one mode at a time: Apple’s guidance says Amplify and Stereo cannot be used simultaneously.

Use the Beats app on Android
Android users can create and manage the group from the Beats app. The app is useful when you want on-screen controls for Stereo assignment, channel reversal, group volume or removing the group.

Turn on one speaker and connect it to the Android phone using the phone’s normal Bluetooth process.
- Open the Beats app. Go to the device screen for the connected Pill.
- Choose Add Speaker. This starts the grouping workflow for a second compatible Pill.
- Turn on the second Pill. Keep both units close together while the app searches for the second speaker.
- Hold the center buttons. When prompted by the app, hold the center button on both speakers. The app uses this gesture to identify the two units as a group.
- Confirm Amplify. The app creates an Amplify group first, with both speakers playing the same audio.
- Select Stereo when required. Tap Stereo in the group controls to assign left and right channels.
- Fine-tune the group. The app can switch back to Amplify, switch the stereo channels, adjust group volume or remove the group.
The Android app does not remove the same-family and model-generation requirement. If the second unit is a Pill+ or another unsupported family, the presence of an Add Speaker option does not establish that the combination is compatible.
Amplify or Stereo: which should you choose?
Choose Amplify for even coverage
Amplify is the practical choice when listeners are spread around a space or when the speakers cannot be positioned as a matched left-right pair. Both units reproduce the same audio, so moving from one side of the room to the other does not intentionally put you on only one channel. It is also the mode created by the initial current-Pill pairing sequence.

Choose Stereo for a defined listening position
Stereo is intended for a left-right arrangement. Place the speaker assigned to the left channel on the listener’s left and the other on the right. The effect is most useful when you are facing the two units from a reasonably central position. If the speakers are placed behind or far to one side of the listener, the channel separation may be less useful than Amplify.
Switch modes when the room changes
You do not need to create a new phone connection to change the listening arrangement. Once the group exists, use the current Pill button gesture or the Android app’s mode control. In the app, you can also reverse the channel assignment if the left and right speakers were placed opposite to the original selection.

A phone may show two speakers as separate Bluetooth devices, but selecting or pairing them independently is not the same as creating the Beats group. The documented current-Pill process starts with one connected speaker, then uses the center-button gesture on both units to establish Amplify. Stereo is selected after that group exists.

This distinction matters because a phone’s operating system may not provide synchronized output to two independent Bluetooth speakers. Even where a phone offers a multiple-output feature, that is a separate system capability and does not substitute for the Beats grouping procedure described here.
Troubleshoot a failed group
The blue indicator never appears
- Confirm that both speakers are turned on, not merely one connected to the phone.
- Use the current-Pill gesture exactly: hold the center button on each speaker for five seconds.
- Keep the speakers close together during the pairing gesture.
- Verify that you are following current Pill instructions rather than Pill+ instructions, or vice versa.
Only one speaker plays
- Check that the first Pill is connected to the audio source before you start grouping.
- Repeat the center-button procedure on both speakers and wait for the blue indicators.
- Do not rely solely on the phone’s list of Bluetooth outputs; the speaker group must be created through the supported Beats process.
- On Android, open the connected Pill’s device page in the Beats app and use Add Speaker rather than attempting to manage the second unit as an unrelated output.
Stereo channels are reversed
- Identify which speaker is physically on the listener’s left.
- On the current Pill, use the center-and-volume-up gesture to change the Stereo assignment.
- In the Android app, use the control for switching stereo channels.
- Play a track with a known left-right cue and test again after the change.
The second speaker is a Pill+
Stop before assuming the units can be grouped. Pill+ has separate app-based instructions, and the reviewed Apple guidance does not confirm a mixed current-Pill/Pill+ group. Follow the instructions for the exact family shown by each speaker; if those instructions do not list the combination, compatibility remains unestablished.
The group needs to be removed
Android users can remove the group from the Beats app’s group controls. After removal, the speakers are no longer managed as the Amplify or Stereo pair. If you plan to create a group again later, repeat the applicable setup process for the exact Pill family rather than treating the two units as a generic dual-output Bluetooth pair.

Quick decision guide
| Your goal | Use | Key action |
|---|---|---|
| Both speakers should play the same program | Amplify | Group the two current Pills with the five-second center-button hold, or use Add Speaker in the Android app. |
| One speaker should play left and the other right | Stereo | Create the group first, then select Stereo and assign the left-channel speaker. |
| You need to reverse left and right | Stereo channel switch | Use the current Pill button control or the Android app’s channel-switch option. |
| You have a current Pill and a Pill+ | Compatibility check required | Use the exact-family instructions; mixed-family support is not established by the available guidance. |
What to remember
Two compatible Beats Pill speakers can provide either synchronized Amplify playback or separated Stereo channels. For the current Pill, begin with one connected speaker, turn on the second, hold the center button on both for five seconds until the blue indicators appear, and then select Stereo if you want left-right playback. Android users can perform the same grouping in the Beats app and manage mode, channels, volume and removal there. Pill+ follows a separate setup path, so verify the model family before promising that two particular speakers will work together.
