Short answer: an iPhone cannot use the Fire TV Stick’s built-in screen-mirroring feature. Amazon documents that feature for devices using Miracast and explicitly lists iOS as unsupported. Your iPhone will therefore not appear in the Fire Stick’s mirroring picker, even when both devices share Wi-Fi.
You can still stream from an iPhone when the television itself, an Apple TV, or another confirmed AirPlay receiver is connected to the same network. A Fire TV smart television is a different product from a Fire TV Stick, and support for AirPlay on one does not prove support on the other.

What “connecting an iPhone to a Fire Stick” can mean
People use this phrase for several different tasks:
- Mirroring the complete iPhone display so the television shows everything on the phone.
- Sending a video from an app to the television with an AirPlay button.
- Using the Fire Stick as the receiver while the iPhone remains the controller.
- Connecting the iPhone directly to the television with a cable or adapter.
These are not interchangeable technologies. The Fire TV Stick’s native display-mirroring function and Apple’s AirPlay system use different receiver requirements. The first question is therefore not which Fire Stick model you own, but which device is actually receiving the picture.

First identify the receiver connected to your TV
Fire TV Stick
A Fire TV Stick is a small streaming device plugged into an HDMI port. Its software provides Amazon’s Fire TV interface, and its built-in mirroring feature is intended for compatible Miracast devices. Amazon’s compatibility guidance lists iOS as unsupported for this feature.
Fire TV smart television
A Fire TV smart TV is a complete television with Fire TV software built in. It is not the same product as a television with a Fire TV Stick attached. Amazon directs owners of certain Fire TV smart TVs to that television’s AirPlay instructions. That guidance does not establish AirPlay support for a separate Stick.
Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible smart TV
Apple documents AirPlay destinations as Apple TV, AirPlay-compatible smart TVs, and Mac. If one of those is connected to the television and the specific model supports the feature, the iPhone can stream compatible video or mirror its screen.

Do a two-minute hardware check before changing settings
- Look behind the television and identify the device plugged into the selected HDMI port. If it is a separate Stick, that Stick is the receiver for that input.
- Use the television remote to cycle through inputs. A built-in Fire TV home screen and a Stick can look similar, so the input label alone is not enough.
- Check whether an Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible television is available on the same network. That is the hardware Apple’s instructions address.
- Decide whether you need the entire iPhone screen or only a video. Full-screen mirroring and in-app AirPlay streaming have separate controls and may have different content restrictions.
This check prevents a common mistake: following AirPlay instructions for a television while the picture is actually being handled by a Fire TV Stick on another HDMI input.
Why the Fire Stick does not mirror an iPhone natively
Amazon’s Fire TV mirroring instructions qualify the feature as Miracast-based. Miracast is a wireless display standard used by compatible phones, tablets and computers. Amazon’s troubleshooting page makes the compatibility boundary explicit: The following devices don’t support screen mirroring: iOS and macOS.
That means the Fire Stick’s Enable Display Mirroring setting is not a hidden switch that can make an iPhone compatible. It controls a receiver mode for supported Miracast transmitters; it does not add Apple’s AirPlay protocol.
Sharing a Wi-Fi network is necessary for many wireless streaming setups, but it cannot convert an unsupported protocol into a supported one. If the iPhone is absent from the Fire Stick’s device list, that is expected behavior rather than a pairing fault.
Mirroring, AirPlay video and casting are different jobs
Screen mirroring duplicates the visible iPhone display. Notifications, menus and other activity that appears on the phone can also appear on the television. Apple’s Screen Mirroring control is intended for a compatible AirPlay receiver, not for the Fire Stick’s Miracast menu.

AirPlay video streaming sends playback from an app to a compatible receiver. The iPhone can remain available as a controller while the receiver plays the video. The app must expose an AirPlay control, and Apple notes that some video apps do not support the feature.
Fire TV device mirroring is Amazon’s receiver mode for compatible Miracast transmitters. Because Amazon lists iOS as unsupported, an iPhone cannot become compatible simply by being placed on the same wireless network.
Choose the route that matches your hardware
| Route | What it supports | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick built-in mirroring | Amazon documents this for compatible Miracast devices; iOS is listed as unsupported. | Do not expect an iPhone to appear in the receiver list. |
| Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV | Apple’s documented AirPlay video streaming and full-screen mirroring. | Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network, and the video app must allow AirPlay. |
| Fire TV smart TV | Amazon points owners to AirPlay guidance for supported television models. | Confirm the exact television model and its current AirPlay capability; this evidence does not transfer to a Stick. |
| Third-party receiver application on a Stick | Not established here as an official or guaranteed solution. | Check the current listing, supported Stick models, content compatibility, permissions and terms before installing or paying. |
Fire Stick generation or advertised performance is not the deciding factor in Amazon’s documented iPhone limitation. The decisive issue is whether the receiver implements Miracast for a compatible transmitter or AirPlay for an iPhone.

You can verify whether the Stick exposes Amazon’s Miracast receiver mode. This check identifies the Fire TV feature; it does not make an iPhone compatible with it.
- Turn on the television and select the HDMI input used by the Fire TV Stick.
- On the Fire TV interface, open Settings.
- Choose Display & Sounds.
- Select Enable Display Mirroring.
- Leave the waiting screen open while checking whether a compatible Miracast transmitter can see the Stick.
If Enable Display Mirroring is missing, Amazon says that Fire TV device is not compatible with that mirroring mode. If the option is present, it still does not add iOS support. An iPhone should not be expected to connect through this menu.
How to use an iPhone with an AirPlay receiver
These steps apply when the receiver is an Apple TV or a smart TV confirmed to support AirPlay. They do not turn a Fire TV Stick into an AirPlay receiver.
Prepare both devices
- Connect the iPhone and the AirPlay receiver to the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network, second router or cellular connection can place them on different networks even when they are in the same room.
- Turn on the television and select the input used by the receiver.
- Make sure the receiver is awake and that AirPlay is enabled in its settings, if the device provides an AirPlay toggle.
- Keep the iPhone and receiver on that network while testing. Moving the phone to cellular data or joining a different access point can remove the receiver from the device list.
Stream a supported video
- Open the video app on the iPhone.
- Start the video or open its playback controls.
- Tap the app’s AirPlay control.
- Select the television, Apple TV or other compatible receiver from the list.
- If the receiver displays a passcode, enter that code on the iPhone.
AirPlay availability is controlled by the app as well as by the receiver. Apple notes that some video apps do not support AirPlay. When the AirPlay icon is absent, the app may be restricting the feature; repeatedly changing Fire Stick settings will not add it.
Mirror the entire iPhone screen
- Open Control Centre. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the upper-right corner. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Screen Mirroring.
- Choose the compatible AirPlay receiver.
- Enter the displayed passcode if prompted.
To stop, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring, and choose Stop Mirroring. This sends the complete display, so notifications and other visible phone activity can appear on the television.

Fire TV smart TV versus Fire TV Stick: the distinction that causes most confusion
Amazon’s support material treats these products separately. A Fire TV smart TV may have a television-specific AirPlay implementation, while the Fire TV Stick uses its own Fire TV device software and documented Miracast receiver behavior. The fact that both products show the Fire TV name is not evidence that they accept the same wireless protocols.
If your television has Fire TV built in and no Stick is involved, identify the exact television model and check its current AirPlay instructions. If a Stick is plugged into an otherwise ordinary television, the receiving device is the Stick, and the smart-TV guidance does not apply to it.
If both a built-in Fire TV interface and a Stick are available, switch the television to the input for the component you intend to use. An iPhone may be able to AirPlay to a supported television on its built-in interface while failing to find the Stick on another HDMI input.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat to do when the receiver does not appear
You are using the Fire Stick’s mirroring screen
There is no iPhone-side setting that makes iOS appear in Amazon’s Miracast device list. Confirm that you have identified the product correctly, then use an AirPlay-compatible receiver or a different connection method instead of repeatedly reopening Enable Display Mirroring.
You are using an AirPlay-compatible television or Apple TV
- Confirm that the iPhone and receiver are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, not merely to networks with similar names.
- Wake the receiver, select its television input and wait for its home screen to load.
- Check whether AirPlay is enabled on that particular television or Apple TV.
- Try the receiver’s own screen-mirroring control and a known AirPlay-capable app to separate a network problem from an app limitation.
- Restart the iPhone, receiver and network equipment if the receiver was previously visible but has disappeared.
These checks are relevant only to a receiver that actually implements AirPlay. They cannot make a Fire TV Stick accept an iPhone through its native mirroring mode.
The AirPlay button is missing inside one app
Apple warns that some video apps do not support AirPlay. Test the app’s own documentation or another app rather than assuming the television is defective. Full-screen mirroring may also be unavailable for content that the app deliberately restricts.
The television shows a different Fire TV interface
Check the HDMI input and the physical device connected to it. A television’s built-in Fire TV software and a Stick can each display a Fire TV home screen, but they may expose different receiver features. Select the intended input before troubleshooting network discovery.

If you investigate one independently, verify all of the following on the current listing and the developer’s documentation:
- Whether the app is available for your exact Fire TV Stick generation and Fire OS version.
- Whether it supports iPhone screen mirroring, AirPlay video, or only a narrower casting method.
- Whether protected or subscription video works, since app support can differ by content.
- Whether it requires a purchase, recurring subscription, local-network permission or an account.
- Whether the app is still maintained and has a clear way to stop or remove the receiver service.
- Whether the app’s privacy and data-use terms are acceptable for the photos, videos or screen activity it may receive.
- Whether the developer documents how to troubleshoot discovery when the iPhone and Stick are on the same network but the receiver is not listed.
An app that receives a photo or an unprotected web page is not automatically capable of mirroring every iPhone activity. Treat compatibility claims as model- and content-specific until verified on your own equipment.
Why a cable or iPhone adapter is a separate solution
A wired iPhone-to-TV adapter would bypass the Fire TV Stick rather than connect the phone to the Stick’s mirroring protocol. The available evidence does not verify a particular adapter, television input, resolution, power arrangement or content behavior, so it should not be presented as a guaranteed fix for this setup.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you consider a wired route, the relevant questions are whether the iPhone connector and adapter are compatible, whether the television accepts the adapter’s output on an available HDMI input, and whether the app permits external display output. The Stick would not be part of that signal path.

You own only a Fire TV Stick and want the whole iPhone screen
The Stick’s built-in mirroring route is not compatible with iOS. Use a confirmed AirPlay receiver connected to the television, or investigate a third-party receiver app only after checking its exact compatibility and terms.
You want to play one video, not mirror the phone
Use the AirPlay button in the video app with an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV on the same Wi-Fi network. First confirm that the app supports AirPlay; some do not.
You have a Fire TV smart TV with no separate Stick
Check the exact television model’s AirPlay support and follow the television’s AirPlay instructions. Do not infer that the same feature exists on a Stick merely because both products use the Fire TV name.
You see “Enable Display Mirroring” on the Stick
That confirms the Stick exposes Amazon’s Miracast receiver mode. It does not change Amazon’s stated iOS incompatibility, so an iPhone still should not be expected to connect through it.

You are deciding whether to buy an accessory
Do not buy an accessory on the assumption that it will make the Stick accept AirPlay. An AirPlay-compatible television or Apple TV is a different receiver, while a wired adapter bypasses the Stick. A third-party app may involve a purchase or subscription and still have model or content limits, so verify those terms first.
Key facts to keep straight
- Amazon’s built-in Fire TV mirroring is documented for compatible Miracast devices, and Amazon lists iOS as unsupported.
- The Settings path is Settings > Display & Sounds > Enable Display Mirroring; a missing option means that Fire TV device is not compatible with that mode.
- Apple’s documented AirPlay destinations are Apple TV, AirPlay-compatible smart TVs and Mac.
- AirPlay setup requires the iPhone and receiver to share a Wi-Fi network.
- Some video apps do not support AirPlay.
- Amazon’s AirPlay pointer for Fire TV smart TVs does not establish AirPlay support for a separate Fire TV Stick.
- Receiver type, protocol and app support matter more than the Fire Stick’s model name when determining whether an iPhone can connect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mirror my iPhone directly to a Fire TV Stick?
No. Amazon documents the Stick’s native mirroring for compatible Miracast devices and explicitly lists iOS as unsupported. The iPhone will not appear in that receiver list.
Why does my iPhone not find the Fire Stick even though both use the same Wi-Fi?
A shared network does not make Miracast and AirPlay interchangeable. The Fire Stick’s native mode does not accept iOS, so the missing device is expected rather than a simple network-pairing error.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does the Enable Display Mirroring option make an iPhone work?
No. Settings > Display & Sounds > Enable Display Mirroring only exposes the Stick’s Miracast receiver mode. It does not add AirPlay or iOS compatibility.
Can a Fire TV smart TV use AirPlay?
Some Fire TV smart televisions have television-specific AirPlay support, and Amazon directs owners to that television’s AirPlay instructions. Confirm the exact TV model; this does not prove that a separate Fire TV Stick supports AirPlay.
What do I need for AirPlay from an iPhone?
Use an Apple TV or confirmed AirPlay-compatible smart TV, place the iPhone and receiver on the same Wi-Fi network, and use the app’s AirPlay button or Control Centre’s Screen Mirroring control.
Why is the AirPlay button missing in my video app?
Apple notes that some video apps do not support AirPlay. Try the app’s documentation or another compatible app; changing the Fire Stick’s mirroring setting will not add the missing control.

It might claim receiver functionality, but no particular app is guaranteed here. Check its current availability, exact Stick and Fire OS support, whether it handles full-screen mirroring or only video, content restrictions, permissions and purchase or subscription terms.
Will an iPhone-to-HDMI adapter connect my phone to the Fire Stick?
No. A wired adapter, if compatible with the phone, television input and app, would send video directly to the television and bypass the Stick. It is a separate connection path, not a way to enable the Stick’s mirroring mode.
The Bottom Line
A Fire TV Stick cannot natively mirror an iPhone because Amazon’s Miracast-based mirroring feature lists iOS as unsupported. Identify the actual receiver first: use Apple’s AirPlay steps with an Apple TV or confirmed AirPlay-compatible smart TV, follow the exact AirPlay guidance for a supported Fire TV smart television, or evaluate any third-party app cautiously. The Enable Display Mirroring menu and a shared Wi-Fi network do not change the Stick’s protocol limitation.
