No verified direct-phone USB workflow is established for Xbox One. The documented option is different: Xbox Wire reported that the Xbox One Media Player app supports playback from USB storage and DLNA. To try playing a phone video, copy it to a separate USB drive using a transfer method that works with your phone, then connect that drive to the console and open Media Player.
What does “connect a phone to Xbox One by USB” mean?
It can mean either plugging a phone into the console and browsing the phone’s files, or playing a file that was copied from the phone onto a USB flash drive. The available official feature description supports USB media playback, not browsing a phone connected directly by cable. Xbox Wire described the Xbox One Media Player app as supporting USB and DLNA playback in a feature roundup published November 5, 2014 (Xbox Wire). That is a historical announcement; the exact behavior of the app today was not independently confirmed.

There is not enough verified information to promise that connecting an Android phone or iPhone directly will make its storage appear on Xbox One. A USB cable alone should not be treated as a confirmed file-transfer method.

How to play a phone video through a USB drive
- Copy the video from your phone to a separate USB drive. Use a computer or a phone-and-accessory setup that supports writing files to that drive. The available feature information does not establish specific phone, adapter, or transfer instructions.
- Connect the USB drive to Xbox One. This is the USB-storage route; it does not make the console browse the phone itself.
- Open Media Player on the console and try the video. USB playback was described as a Media Player feature, but no verified list of file systems, drive requirements, or supported video formats is available here. Do not assume every drive or file will work.

Why a USB cable may not show phone files
Connecting a phone physically is not the same as attaching a removable USB drive. The available documentation does not verify that Xbox One can browse files on a directly connected Android phone or iPhone, nor does it establish phone-specific compatibility, file-system requirements, or a supported media-format matrix. Microsoft’s Xbox mobile support page does not provide a verified basis here for detailed USB file-transfer instructions (Xbox Support).
