What happens if you leave the Deserter area?
The Deserter quest begins in the Vale of Wrath, close to the Under the Bridge Lantern. Its objective is to recover three Anubis Figurine Parts hidden in beehives. Because the quest route extends beyond the initial encampment, walking away from the first group of structures is expected.

That means seeing the encampment disappear behind you is not proof that the quest was abandoned or failed. 1. Return to the Under the Bridge Lantern
Open your map and travel back to the Under the Bridge Lantern in the Vale of Wrath. If you left before completing the quest, this is the practical starting point for retracing the route. A walkthrough from GamingProMax reports that fast travel to this lantern is available after Chapter 5, so reaching that chapter can provide a way back even when the area is no longer on your immediate path.

If the lantern is not available as a destination, check whether the location has been activated and whether your current chapter or patch exposes the same fast-travel options. Do not assume the quest is permanently missed solely because the lantern is absent from your first map view; confirm that the quest is still listed and inspect nearby map sections.
2. Check the three apiaries, not every hive you can see

Search each apiary systematically. Walk the full perimeter, inspect hives that do not carry an obvious quest marker, and interact with every plausible hive before moving to the next apiary. If you remember collecting one or two parts, use the quest objective or inventory state to narrow the search rather than assuming the remaining item is in the first apiary you revisit.

After checking the apiaries, continue along the quest route out of the encampment. Cross the long bridge into the next section. This crossing is the key navigation clue for the final piece: the third part is not obtained by staying inside the original Deserter camp.

Approach the beehive or interaction point in that next section and collect the third Anubis Figurine Part. The exact order in which you revisit the locations can vary, but the final part still requires reaching the area beyond the bridge.
4. Confirm the figurine rebuild
Once all three parts have been collected, the Anubis Figurine is rebuilt and The Deserter is completed. Check the quest journal for the completed state before leaving the area. If the journal still shows an outstanding part, return to the apiaries and compare your collected pieces with the three-hive route rather than repeating the bridge crossing indefinitely.

Why players think the quest was missed
Leaving the starting area feels like a point of no return
The Deserter begins near a recognizable lantern and camp, while the final objective is outside that space. Players who leave through the bridge may interpret the transition as a lockout. In this quest, however, the bridge is part of the intended route to the third figurine piece.
Not every visible hive advances the objective
Beehives can look interchangeable, but the walkthrough guidance distinguishes three unmarked targets, one in each apiary. Searching only marked or conspicuous hives can leave one part uncollected and make the quest appear broken. Treat the apiaries as separate search zones and record which one you have fully checked.
Fast travel becomes available later than the initial quest
If you move on with the story, the Under the Bridge Lantern may not be part of your immediate travel loop. The reported Chapter 5 fast-travel access gives you a later recovery route, but it does not replace the need to have the lantern available on your map. A missing destination can therefore be a map-activation or version issue rather than evidence that The Deserter is permanently missable.
What to do if the final part does not appear
- Read the journal objective. Identify whether the game lists a missing figurine part or simply shows a general Deserter objective.
- Revisit all three apiaries. Search one unmarked hive in each location, including areas you previously passed through quickly.
- Cross the long bridge again. The third part is associated with the section beyond the encampment, so do not stop your search at the camp boundary.
- Check the lantern route. Confirm that Under the Bridge is activated and that your chapter supports the reported fast-travel option.
- Reload only after checking the route. If the journal, map and hive interactions all disagree, make a manual save, reload, and test the same locations again. This separates a missed interaction from a temporary loading or quest-state problem without discarding progress.
- Recheck after an update. If your installed patch changes map labels, lantern access or interaction prompts, compare the current journal state with the route above before treating the quest as unavailable.
Is The Deserter permanently missable?
Available side-quest checklists identify The Choir as the only reported permanently missable side quest and state that most other quests can be completed after the story. That broader context supports treating The Deserter as recoverable after leaving its starting area.
