What Xbox Store carrier billing means
Carrier billing lets an eligible digital purchase be charged through a participating mobile operator. In Microsoft Store checkout, the payment method is called Mobile phone. Whether it can be used for an Xbox purchase depends on the region, operator and checkout where you are buying.

Xbox Wire announced the Xbox Store option on October 31, 2016. At that time, supported operators could be used on Xbox One and, depending on location, in the Xbox app on Windows 10 devices and iOS and Android smartphones. The announcement is historical, not confirmation of present-day availability across all those devices. Xbox Wire’s announcement advised customers to ask their carrier about availability and activation.
Which countries and mobile operators are listed?
Microsoft Support’s current mobile-operator billing page lists the following country/operator combinations. The list describes Microsoft Store support documentation; it does not confirm that every operator currently enables Xbox Store billing on every device.

How to set up mobile phone billing
- Start an eligible purchase in Microsoft Store and sign in if asked.
- Choose the option to add or change a payment method.
- Select Mobile phone, then choose your operator from the offered list.
- Enter your phone number and complete the SMS verification.
- Review the terms and payment details shown at checkout before completing the purchase.
Microsoft’s instructions describe the account payment setup flow generally. They do not guarantee that the resulting method will be offered for every Xbox product or storefront.

What to do if Mobile phone is not available
- Check the country or region associated with your account and compare it with Microsoft’s supported-region information.
- Ask your mobile carrier whether it supports Microsoft Store operator billing and what steps or restrictions apply.
- Check the actual Xbox or Microsoft Store checkout for the purchase you intend to make. A carrier appearing on Microsoft’s list alone does not prove the option is enabled for that purchase.
Do not assume changing your account region will unlock the feature. Microsoft notes that payment methods are not supported in every region, and the cited guidance does not establish universal fees, spending limits or current Xbox availability for every carrier/device combination. Follow the terms and amount displayed before purchase.

Carrier billing is different from Microsoft account balance
Redeemed Microsoft account balance can be used for games and in-app purchases, according to Microsoft’s separate gift-card and code guidance. That is a separate payment route; it is not mobile operator billing.
