Short answer: the official material reviewed does not document a general in-game control for selecting or disabling Metaphor: ReFantazio battle music. The game does have officially sold Costume & Battle BGM and Battle Jingle add-ons, while one Steam Community commenter reports that equipping a Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle heard after a battle. That report concerns the post-battle jingle—not necessarily the main battle theme—and is not official, independently verified guidance.
What you can and cannot change
There are three separate questions hidden inside “Can I change the battle music?”
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Can you choose a different main battle track? No general selector is documented in the official sources reviewed.
- Can you turn battle music off? No general disable control is documented either.
- Can you hear alternate music-related content? Yes. Official storefront listings include add-ons described as Costume & Battle BGM Sets and Battle Jingle Sets. Their descriptions establish that alternate audio content exists, but they do not establish a universal playlist or a menu that lets you assign any song to any battle.
That wording matters. “I could not find an officially documented general setting” is more accurate than claiming that every version of the game definitively lacks one. The available evidence covers the official game information, a live Xbox Store listing, a Steam Community discussion, and ATLUS patch notes; it is not a promise that every platform menu has identical options forever.
Battle BGM and battle jingle are different
The storefront terminology distinguishes Battle BGM from Battle Jingle. Battle BGM is the music that plays during combat. A battle jingle is the short musical cue associated with the end of a fight or its result. Confusing these terms can lead to the wrong expectation from a costume pack or a player workaround.

The Steam Community thread titled “How do I change battle music?” contains a reply saying that putting the protagonist in a Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle after a battle. The comment does not say that the outfit replaces the complete combat theme, and it does not describe a switch for muting music. Treat it as a player report about a post-battle cue, not as proof of a main-theme selector.
What the official DLC listings establish
The Microsoft Xbox Store lists several music-related add-ons for Metaphor: ReFantazio. Some are grouped with uniform or other costume content, while others are presented as separate downloadable sets. The listing uses names that include Costume & Battle BGM and Battle Jingle, and it shows that selected editions include particular add-ons.
| Official listing category | What it reasonably tells you | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Costume & Battle BGM Set | A package combines costume content with alternate battle-music content. | It does not prove that every battle track can be freely selected, shuffled, or disabled. |
| Battle Jingle add-on | A downloadable item exists for an alternate battle-ending cue. | It does not prove that the main combat theme changes. |
| Sets tied to uniforms or other costumes | The music may be associated with themed outfit content in the product description. | It does not prove that wearing the outfit is required for every included track or that all platforms implement the association identically. |
| Included in a selected edition | Some game editions bundle particular add-ons instead of requiring a separate purchase. | It does not mean every edition, region, or platform grants the same entitlement. |
Availability and entitlements can vary by region, edition, and platform. The Xbox listing is evidence for the Xbox storefront; it should not be treated as a complete catalog for PlayStation, Windows, or Steam. Before buying anything, read the add-on’s current description in the store attached to the version you own and confirm whether the item is already included with your edition.
How to check your own version without guessing
Because the evidence does not establish one shared interface across all systems, use a platform-specific check rather than relying on a video or forum post made for another edition.
- Identify your platform and edition. ATLUS lists Xbox, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam versions. The edition name matters because selected editions include different digital extras.
- Review the game’s in-game audio and options screens. Look for controls that explicitly mention battle music, music volume, or a music selector. Do not assume that a general master-volume slider is a battle-music toggle; the reviewed official material does not document a dedicated control.
- Open your platform’s add-on page for the game. Search the owned and available content for the exact terms “Costume & Battle BGM” and “Battle Jingle.” Read the individual description instead of inferring features from a bundle’s name.
- Check whether the add-on is owned or merely listed. A store page can show downloadable content that is not part of your edition. Confirm the ownership or included-content indicator before expecting new music in the game.
- Install the content and restart the game if the platform requires it. Keep expectations narrow: an installed set may add a themed track or jingle without creating a global song-picker menu.
- If you are investigating the outfit report, equip the protagonist’s Persona 5 outfit and finish a battle. The reported effect is the cue after combat. One observation cannot establish that the main battle theme changed or that the behavior works on every platform.
The Persona 5 outfit report: useful, but limited
The Steam Community reply is the only source in the reviewed material that describes a concrete player action. It says that equipping the protagonist with a Persona 5 outfit changes the jingle after a battle and that the commenter found no separate enable/disable option.

There are several limits to that evidence:
- It is a single community comment, not an ATLUS instruction.
- The report does not identify a universal platform or edition behavior.
- It refers to the end-of-battle jingle, not definitively to the music played during combat.
- It does not say that the music can be muted independently of other audio.
If you try the outfit, judge the result by listening to the short cue when combat ends. A different result does not necessarily mean the game is malfunctioning; the reported behavior may depend on the exact outfit entitlement, version, or platform implementation.
What Patch 1.09 can—and cannot—tell us
ATLUS’s Metaphor: ReFantazio – Patch Notes 1.09 list changes such as a dash-effects toggle and other adjustments. They do not list a battle-music selector or a battle-music mute setting. That supports a narrow conclusion: the inspected notes do not announce such a feature.

Patch notes are not a complete inventory of every menu on every platform. Therefore, their silence should not be turned into an absolute claim that no current build could contain an audio option. It is best used alongside the official game and store information: no general battle-music control is documented in the material available here.
Can you disable only battle music?
There is no documented battle-specific mute switch in the reviewed sources. If your goal is silence during fights, the only safe statement is that you should inspect the audio menu on your own platform for a control explicitly labeled for music or battle audio. A master music-volume setting, if present in your build, would affect more than battles; it should not be described as a battle-only solution without platform-specific documentation.
Turning down the entire game’s music can also remove exploration, event, and victory cues. That trade-off is different from disabling combat music while retaining the rest of the soundtrack, and the reviewed sources do not establish that the latter is possible.

Can you select a specific song?
The official DLC names show that alternate battle-related audio is sold, but they do not describe a free-form track picker. Avoid assuming that owning several sets lets you choose a song from a list, assign tracks to difficulty levels, or randomize music. The storefront evidence supports the existence of additional content, not those controls.
Recommended Free Tools
If a store description for your platform later adds explicit instructions for selecting or equipping a track, follow that wording. Until then, treat each DLC set as a content entitlement whose exact in-game behavior must be confirmed by its own description.
Platform and edition differences to watch
Metaphor: ReFantazio is listed for Xbox, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. Music-related extras can be attached to a digital edition, sold separately, or restricted by regional storefront rules. A costume or soundtrack item shown on Xbox is not automatically included with a PlayStation or Steam purchase.
| Situation | Best interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The add-on appears as included with your edition | You may have the entitlement, subject to installation and platform delivery. | Check the game’s manage-content or downloads area and then inspect the in-game costume or related content. |
| The add-on is listed with a price | It is available in that storefront but is not necessarily owned. | Read the description for the exact music and costume items before deciding whether it addresses your goal. |
| The add-on is missing | It may be unavailable in your region, tied to another edition, or listed under a different bundle. | Search the platform’s own listing using the game title and the terms “Battle BGM” or “Battle Jingle.” |
| The outfit changes no audible cue | The community report may not apply to your version, or the effect may concern only a short post-battle jingle. | Verify the outfit is installed and test the end-of-battle cue rather than the combat theme. |
Common misconceptions and how to avoid them
“Battle BGM” means a full soundtrack menu
It does not necessarily mean that. In a product title, “Battle BGM” identifies music content included in that add-on. A product title alone does not specify how the game equips, activates, or cycles the content.
A costume-linked cue changes the whole fight
The community report specifically mentions the post-battle jingle. Do not use it as evidence that the music during the fight has been replaced.

One platform’s edition includes every add-on
The Xbox listing shows selected editions with included content, while regional listings and entitlements may vary. Confirm your own store and edition.
Patch notes prove a feature is impossible
Patch notes record listed changes; they are not a formal statement that every undocumented control is absent. Use them as supporting evidence, not as an exhaustive menu specification.
The physical game is a solution
ATLUS lists a physical base game as part of the Collector’s Edition, but buying a physical copy does not itself establish any change to battle music. Music behavior depends on the game version and any applicable digital content, not on the disc format alone.
What to expect if you buy a music-related add-on
Start with the product description’s exact nouns. “Costume,” “Battle BGM,” and “Battle Jingle” identify different content categories. Determine whether the item contains one costume, a themed group, a battle track, a battle-ending cue, or a combination. Then check the edition and region conditions.
Do not purchase an add-on solely because its title sounds like a universal audio-control pack. The available listing does not promise a mute button, an arbitrary song picker, or replacement of every combat track. If your only goal is to stop music, no reviewed official description guarantees that a DLC purchase will do so.
Bottom line for players
At present, the defensible answer is: no officially documented general setting lets you choose or disable Metaphor: ReFantazio battle music. Official Costume & Battle BGM and Battle Jingle add-ons provide alternate audio content, with availability dependent on platform, edition, and region. A Steam Community user reports that a Persona 5 outfit changes the post-battle jingle, but that is a limited, unverified workaround and not evidence of a main battle-theme selector. Check your own platform’s current listing and in-game options before spending money or assuming that a costume changes the music heard during combat.
