Usually not if you cancel a Nintendo eShop preorder before payment. Nintendo does not make a preorder download code available until it charges the order and pre-loads the game, so canceling before that point leaves no issued code to keep. If a code has already appeared after payment, Nintendo’s published FAQ does not promise that it remains valid after a later cancellation.
Physical purchases are different. Nintendo Store and third-party retailer orders follow separate cancellation rules, and physical bonus items are added only to qualifying purchases while supplies last. Your answer therefore depends on the storefront, country, order status, and whether the Ocarina of Time promotion is a code or a bundled item.

The safest assumption is that a canceled order does not carry its bonus entitlement to a replacement order unless the seller confirms that in writing.

Payment and pre-loading happen together near release
Nintendo’s support guidance says an eShop preorder can be canceled any time before payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, with that point occurring no sooner than seven days before release. For The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, Nintendo’s product listing gives a November 5, 2026 release date. The operational cutoff should therefore fall around the final week before release, but Nintendo’s wording is “up to 7 days,” so the exact account or regional timing may differ.

Until Nintendo reaches that payment and pre-load trigger, the preorder is only a reservation. The game may appear in your account, but Nintendo has not yet completed the purchase that unlocks the promotional code.
When the bonus code appears
Nintendo states that bonus download codes are unavailable until payment has been processed and the game has been pre-loaded on the console. A code can then appear in the purchase receipt or purchase history, depending on the promotion and account view. This is why an eShop preorder can show a bonus in its advertising while your account still has no code: the entitlement has not been issued yet.
What canceling before that point means
If you cancel while the order is still unpaid and not pre-loaded, Nintendo’s stated rules allow the cancellation, but there is no issued bonus code to retain. You can place the preorder again before release, yet Nintendo does not state that a canceled order’s promotional entitlement is preserved, transferred, or restored on the replacement order.
That creates two separate risks when switching retailers or accounts:

- The original eShop order may be canceled before its code exists.
- The new order may not qualify if its retailer, country, edition, or remaining promotional stock differs.
How to cancel an eShop preorder without guessing
Use the Nintendo Account or Nintendo eShop account that made the preorder. Menu names can vary by console software and region, but the process follows the preorder-management screen:
- Open Nintendo eShop and select the purchasing account’s account icon.
- Open the Pre-Orders list and select the Zelda title.
- Choose the cancellation command and read the confirmation screen, including the payment and pre-loading status.
- Confirm the cancellation and save the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the order status.
- If you are moving to another seller, complete the replacement order only after checking that seller’s bonus terms and stock notice.
If the cancellation option is missing, treat that as a sign that payment or pre-loading may already have started. Do not assume that deleting the game’s pre-load data cancels the order; contact Nintendo Support through the account used for purchase.
What if the Ocarina bonus code has already arrived?
Once payment has been processed and the code is visible, the situation changes. Nintendo’s cited FAQ explains when codes become available but does not say that a code remains valid after the associated preorder is canceled. It also does not promise that a code can be detached from the order, transferred to another account, or redeemed after a refund.

For that reason, do not cancel merely because the code is visible and assume you can keep it. Before taking action:

- Record the order number, code location, and the account that received it.
- Read the promotion’s redemption deadline and territory restriction, if shown with the code.
- Ask Nintendo Support whether canceling this specific paid preorder invalidates the code.
- Keep the written response with your purchase records.
Support may apply account or promotion rules that are not described in the general preorder FAQ. A code displayed in purchase history is evidence that it was issued; it is not a guarantee that it survives cancellation.
Physical Nintendo Store orders
Nintendo’s physical-order process is separate
Nintendo distinguishes physical-product orders from eShop preorders. A physical order therefore cannot be canceled using the digital preorder rule simply because both products have the same game title. Use the Nintendo Store order page and its physical-order cancellation instructions for the country in which you bought the game.
Bonus items depend on qualifying status and inventory
Nintendo Store’s FAQ says bonus items are automatically added to qualifying purchases and are available only while stocks last. The bonus may be a separately shipped item bundled with the game or a download code described in the product listing. The product page, not the game’s general marketing, determines which format applies to your order.
If you cancel a physical order, Nintendo’s public wording does not establish that you may keep a shipped or unshipped bonus. A bonus that has not been dispatched may be removed with the order; a code may be subject to separate redemption controls. Ask the store to state the result for your order before canceling.

Third-party retailers: the written policy controls
Retailers can choose different payment dates, cancellation windows, and promotional mechanics. Some charge when the order is placed, some charge when they prepare a shipment, and some reserve a bonus only while their allocation lasts. Those practices cannot be inferred from Nintendo’s eShop FAQ.
Check these five lines before switching sellers
- Qualifying product: Confirm that the listing is the same Switch 2 edition and region, not a standard edition without the promotion.
- Bonus format: Determine whether you receive a physical Ocarina item, a printed code, an email code, or an account-based entitlement.
- Allocation: Look for “while stocks last,” a quantity limit, or a statement that the bonus is added automatically.
- Payment event: Find out whether the retailer charges at checkout, at dispatch, or at another stated time.
- Cancellation language: Search for what happens to a bonus when a qualifying order is canceled, refunded, exchanged, or split into multiple shipments.
Save the product page and the retailer’s terms when you order. Promotional pages can change after stock is exhausted, while your saved copy shows what was promised at checkout.

“I want to switch retailers before Nintendo charges me.”
You can cancel an eligible eShop preorder before Nintendo processes payment and begins pre-loading. Because the code is not available before that event, there is no Nintendo-issued code to carry over. Place the replacement order only after confirming that the new seller still lists the Ocarina bonus for your region.
“I canceled and then pre-ordered again. Will the first bonus follow me?”
Nintendo does not state that a canceled order preserves or transfers its bonus entitlement. A replacement preorder should be treated as a new transaction with its own eligibility and stock conditions.

“The physical bonus was in my cart. Can I cancel the game and keep it?”
Do not assume so. Nintendo says qualifying purchases receive bonus items automatically while supplies last, but that statement does not grant a right to retain the item after canceling the qualifying purchase. The named seller must confirm its policy.
“The code arrived, but I found a cheaper retailer.”
Pause before canceling. Nintendo’s FAQ does not guarantee code validity after cancellation. Verify the result with Nintendo Support and check whether the cheaper retailer’s promotion is still in stock before giving up the paid order.
Release-date and product details to verify
Nintendo’s 2026 product listing identifies the physical Switch 2 game with SKU 125697 and a November 5, 2026 release date. Use those details when comparing listings, because a retailer may show a different SKU, edition, or regional release. A matching title alone does not prove that the same Ocarina promotion applies.

A pre-cancellation checklist
- Identify the storefront: eShop, Nintendo Store, or a named retailer.
- Confirm the country and account region used for the purchase.
- Check whether payment has been processed and whether pre-loading has started.
- Look in the receipt or purchase history for an actually issued code.
- Save screenshots of the product page, bonus language, order number, and stock notice.
- Ask the seller in writing whether cancellation removes the bonus and whether a replacement order qualifies.
- Do not redeem a code until you understand the seller’s refund and cancellation terms.
