YouTube does not confirm that viewers can complete a paid channel-membership purchase in the standard smart-TV app while watching a conventional 24/7 livestream. The Join button is not available on every platform, so if it is missing on your TV, use the channel’s homepage or /join page, or join through YouTube on a computer or mobile device. That documentation gap is not proof that every TV app blocks membership purchases.
What to try on your TV
- Open the channel or stream in the YouTube TV app and check whether Join is shown. YouTube says the button is not available on all platforms; its absence alone does not mean the channel lacks memberships. YouTube’s membership instructions describe that platform limitation.
- If Join is unavailable, open the creator’s channel homepage or its
/joinpage. Alternatively, use YouTube on a computer or mobile device, which YouTube recommends when the button is unavailable on a platform. You can then select Join, choose a level, review its perks and complete checkout if eligible.
YouTube does not explicitly say whether the standard TV app can finish checkout during a horizontal 24/7 stream. The safest practical answer is to check for Join, then switch to the channel page or another device if it is missing.

Why “Subscribe” is not the same as “Join”
On a TV, YouTube documents revealing a video’s details and choosing Subscribe. That follows the channel; it is not the paid membership checkout. A channel membership is a paid program with creator-defined levels and perks, which may include badges, emoji, posts or members-only content. YouTube’s TV app guide covers subscribing, while its membership guide covers paid memberships.

And YouTube’s instructions for buying movies or TV shows on supported TVs do not establish that creator memberships can be purchased through that TV checkout. Can you join without leaving a livestream?
YouTube documents a membership purchase during one particular live-viewing experience: the mobile app’s vertical live feed. In that feed, tap the dollar-sign icon in live chat, tap Memberships, then Join. YouTube says this purchase route is available on Android phones and is not currently available on iPhones. Do not assume those steps apply to a standard horizontal livestream or a smart-TV app. YouTube’s vertical live-stream guide describes that flow.
A viewer who joins while a channel is livestreaming may trigger a green “New Member” message in live chat, but that confirms a live membership interaction—not that TV checkout is supported. YouTube’s membership-benefits help explains the live-chat message.

Eligibility still applies
Joining requires a channel that offers memberships and a viewer in an eligible country or region who meets YouTube’s age requirements. YouTube lists 18 as the minimum age, with 19 in Korea and Algeria, in its membership instructions. A missing Join button can reflect platform availability, so check the channel page or try another device before assuming memberships are not offered.
