That is one asking-price example, not proof of a typical price, completed sale, or continuing availability. Before buying, check the exact card’s condition and brackets, your system’s fit and airflow, power budget, and software requirements.
What the Tesla P4 is—and what it is not
The Tesla P4 is a low-profile, PCIe accelerator built on NVIDIA’s Pascal architecture. NVIDIA’s September 2016 datasheet positions it as an inference-oriented, server-class product, not a current-generation general-purpose gaming card. It has 8 GB of GPU memory and ECC support. That design can make a P4 interesting for a compact homelab or a workload that can use its video engines or inference capabilities. It does not make it a drop-in upgrade for every desktop, nor does the under-$100 price target alone establish that it is a good buy.
What one sub-$100 listing tells you
A 2026 post in r/homelabsales advertised a used Tesla P4 8GB for $85 including U.S. shipping. It shows that a listing below $100 is possible; it does not establish a representative market price, confirm that the card sold, or indicate that the listing remains available. r/homelabsales
#1 Best Overall
Treat $100 as a search target, not a guaranteed going rate. Compare the delivered price and what is actually included: a card without the bracket you need, or one in unknown condition, may not be a bargain. Confirm the seller’s return terms and ask for clear photos and confirmation of the exact model and included accessories.
Check the card and host before paying
- Physical fit: The P4 is low-profile, but verify the specific card’s dimensions, bracket, and clearance against your case and available PCIe slot. Do not assume a bracket is included.
- Power: NVIDIA’s 2016 datasheet lists maximum power as 50/75 W. Check your host’s available power and the requirements of the exact card rather than assuming the slot or system is sufficient. NVIDIA Tesla P4 datasheet
- Cooling: Leadtek identifies its P4 product’s thermal solution as passive, meaning the card itself does not rely on an onboard fan for cooling. Confirm that your chassis can provide suitable airflow across the card; do not assume a typical desktop case will do so. Leadtek Tesla P4 product page
- Software and workload: Confirm support for the operating system, drivers, and application you intend to use before purchase. Current compatibility was not established here, so do not rely on old product positioning as a guarantee that a particular modern workload will work.
Key specifications and what they mean
| Specification | NVIDIA’s stated value | Practical context |
|---|---|---|
| GPU memory | 8 GB | Capacity matters for the model or media workload you plan to run; it does not guarantee software compatibility. |
| Memory bandwidth | 192 GB/s | A datasheet specification, not a measure of performance in every application. |
| Power | 50/75 W maximum | Check host power and cooling for the exact card. |
| Video engines | One decode engine and two encode engines | Useful only when the intended software can make use of the hardware engines. |
| Compute figures | 5.5 TFLOPS single precision; 22 TOPS INT8 | NVIDIA marks both figures as achieved with boost clock enabled; they are not universal application benchmarks. |
| Form factor and features | Low-profile PCIe; ECC | Verify the card’s bracket, dimensions, host support, and software needs. |
These figures come from NVIDIA’s September 2016 datasheet. Its 5.5 TFLOPS and 22 TOPS values are vendor specifications under the stated boost-clock condition, not a promise of those results in your workload. NVIDIA’s launch comparisons also used named neural networks, batch sizes, hardware, and software; they should not be read as universal comparisons with modern CPUs or GPUs. When a P4 under $100 may make sense
It may be worth considering if you have a compatible system with adequate airflow, have confirmed support for your specific application, and can buy a tested card with the bracket and condition you need at a worthwhile delivered price. For transcoding, verify that your particular media software supports the P4’s decode or encode engines for the formats and settings you plan to use; the engine count alone does not establish that it will handle your workload.
If you are shopping for general GPU compute or inference, compare the P4 with other cards on the dimensions that affect your use: workload support, memory capacity and type, power draw, physical fit, cooling requirements, host and software compatibility, and total delivered cost. The specifications and single listing cited here do not establish a head-to-head winner or a current market-wide price.
