You have one personal Palico in Monster Hunter: World. You can ask your Palico to join a hunt or wait at camp; other Palicoes and Grimalkynes appear through the separate Tailraider Safari system, not as extra companions following you.
How many personal Palicos can you have?
Your hunter has one personal Palico companion. The game’s tutorial says: “Your Palico can be found in camp. Speak to them to choose whether to bring them with you on your hunt or have them wait until you return.” That is a choice about whether your companion accompanies you, not a way to add another Palico to the hunt.

Why do other Palicoes appear in the game?
Other feline characters take part in Tailraider Safaris, a separate dispatch feature. The tutorial explains: “You can dispatch Grimalkynes and other players’ Palicoes on Tailraider Safaris.” These teams venture out while you are on quests or expeditions to gather items and materials and unlock investigations.

Safari teams have three members and may include Palicoes recruited from your squad, received Guild Cards, or recent play partners. That team size belongs to the Safari system; it does not mean you can bring three personal Palicos with you.
