No documented Valor Mortis mechanic currently grants poison immunity. The game’s combat reference lists eight damage types, and Poison is not one of them. What the current damage system actually lists
The Valor Mortis DB combat reference says the game “ships these 8” damage types: Critical, Crystallization, Environmental, Explosive, Ignite, Infection, Melee and Ranged. Poison does not appear in that list. That matters because a resistance or immunity build normally needs three identifiable pieces: a named damage or status type, a way for it to build or deal damage, and a stat, item or action that counters it. The documented Valor Mortis references do not provide that chain for Poison.

Not according to the terminology in the available documentation. The official Xbox Wire launch guide is titled “Valor Mortis: Tips and Tricks to Survive the Crimson Plague,” and it presents the plague as the setting’s central threat. The combat reference, however, gives the related status a more specific mechanical name: Infection damage builds the Infected status.

That distinction is useful when reading guides or interpreting a status icon. “Crimson Plague” is the broad narrative threat described by the launch guide. “Infection” is the documented damage/status language used by the combat reference. “Poison” is not listed as a separate damage type or status name in the cited material. A player can therefore describe a visual effect as poison informally, but that does not establish a Poison stat, an antidote or an immunity path.
The launch guide emphasizes posture, parries, blocking, weak points, Nephtoglobin and firearms. It does not identify poison resistance, poison immunity or an antidote as part of the player’s toolkit. That omission is consistent with the combat reference’s eight-type list.
Is there a poison-resistance build?
No documented build supports that conclusion. The mechanics reference covers blocking, dodging, fast travel, Fire Transmutation, Nephtoglobin and leveling. The stats reference covers Status Buildup for Transmutations, along with base health, stamina, Nephtoglobin, weapons and ammunition values. Neither reference lists Poison Resistance, Poison Defense, a resistance cap or an immunity threshold.
That means you should not spend levels, equipment slots or Transmutation choices expecting a hidden poison-immunity breakpoint. A stat that improves general survivability is not automatically poison resistance, and a Status Buildup value for Transmutations is not evidence of resistance to an enemy-applied poison effect. Those systems may be important for combat, but the cited documentation does not connect them to a Poison status.

What the documented stats can and cannot tell you
- Status Buildup: documented in connection with Transmutations. It does not establish a player-facing Poison resistance stat.
- Health and stamina: listed as base player values. They describe core survivability and action capacity, not immunity to an unlisted status.
- Nephtoglobin: documented as a game resource. The references do not describe it as an antidote or poison-cleansing meter.
- Weapons and ammunition: part of the documented combat equipment. Their presence does not create a Poison counter.
- Leveling: documented as progression, but no cited level, perk or upgrade grants Poison immunity.
Is there an item that cures poison?
No cited source documents an antidote, poison-cleansing consumable or equipment item. That is narrower and more accurate than claiming that no such object could ever exist: a later patch, an unindexed item or a platform-specific update could change the system. In the references available for the current article, however, there is no named Poison status to cure and no named antidote to obtain.
If an item description uses words such as “plague,” “infection,” “purification” or “recovery,” read its exact effect instead of assuming it is an antidote. How to check what is affecting your character
When an effect looks like poison, use the game’s own label and meter rather than the color or animation. The references do not publish a universal menu path for every edition, so the following is a verification method, not a claim about a specific button sequence.
- Read the status name. Open the status, combat or equipment information available in your edition and record the exact word shown. “Infected” is materially different from “Poison.”
- Watch the buildup indicator. If the game shows a filling meter, note which status name is attached to it. Infection is documented as building the Infected status; a differently named meter would need separate documentation.
- Identify the source. Note whether the effect came from an enemy strike, a projectile, an environmental hazard or a Transmutation. The combat reference distinguishes damage categories, including Environmental, Melee, Ranged and Infection.
- Compare the label with the eight documented types. If the event is categorized as Infection, treat it as the documented plague-related mechanic. If it is categorized as Environmental, Ignite or another listed type, do not rename it Poison without in-game confirmation.
- Check the item and stat text. Look for an explicit resistance, cleansing or immunity sentence. A health increase, stamina increase or Transmutation Status Buildup value is not an immunity statement.
- Record the version. If your screen uses a status name absent from the references, note the game version, platform and location where it appears. That information is important because patches can add or rename systems.
This process prevents a common error: treating any damage-over-time animation as proof that the game has a Poison status. Visual presentation alone cannot establish a separate mechanic.

What to do against the documented plague-related threat
Because no poison-immunity route is documented, the practical response is to use the combat fundamentals the official launch guide does identify. These actions are defensive tools, not Poison counters, so their value depends on the encounter and the incoming damage type.
Use posture, parries and blocks deliberately
The launch guide highlights posture, parries and blocking. These are ways to manage attacks and create safer openings. They should not be described as cleansing Infection or granting immunity; the cited material does not make either claim. Use them to reduce the chance of taking the triggering hit when the threat is an attack that can be defended against.
Use dodging when blocking is not the right answer
Dodging is included in the mechanics reference. If an attack cannot be safely blocked or parried, repositioning can be the more appropriate defensive choice. Again, this is encounter defense rather than a status cure. The documentation does not assign a special dodge property that removes Infected buildup.

The launch guide calls out weak points and firearms, while the stats reference covers weapons and ammunition. Exploiting a weak point or selecting a suitable weapon can change how quickly you end a dangerous encounter, but no source says that either action grants Poison resistance. Treat them as ways to control the fight, not as evidence of an antidote system.

Manage Nephtoglobin and Transmutations by their stated functions
Nephtoglobin and Fire Transmutation are documented mechanics, and Status Buildup is documented for Transmutations. Unless an in-game description explicitly names Infection removal or resistance, keep their use within the effects the game states. A Transmutation buildup statistic should not be reinterpreted as protection from an unlisted Poison status.

Players often use familiar genre vocabulary for any harmful status that drains health, fills a meter or changes the character’s appearance. That shorthand can be understandable, but it can also lead to the wrong search terms. Searching only for “poison immunity” may produce advice for a mechanic Valor Mortis does not document, while searching for “Infection,” “Infected” or “Crimson Plague” is more consistent with the named systems in the available references.
Terminology can also change between a story explanation, an enemy description and a database entry. The launch guide uses Crimson Plague as the broad survival theme; the combat reference uses Infection and Infected for the mechanical status. When those terms appear together, the safest interpretation is to follow the exact status label shown by your game and its current item descriptions.
Could a future update add Poison?
Yes. The conclusion above applies to the documented system available for this article as of 13 October 2026. Game patches and database updates can add statuses, equipment, resistance stats or consumables. A future update could introduce Poison as a new damage type, rename Infection or add a counter that is not present in the current references.
After a major update, recheck three places: the combat damage-type list, the mechanics entries for blocking, dodging, leveling and resources, and the stats entries for Status Buildup and defensive attributes. Then inspect newly added item descriptions for explicit wording such as “Poison resistance,” “immune to Poison” or “removes Poison.” Until those statements appear, a poison-immunity build remains unsupported.
Common questions
Can I become immune to the Crimson Plague?
The cited sources do not document a general Crimson Plague immunity upgrade. They document Infection building the Infected status and describe combat techniques for surviving the plague, but they do not name an immunity perk, item or percentage.
Does Infection resistance equal Poison resistance?
